So I'm either officially 4th or 5th...it depends on how many points ravsters had at exactly midnight EDT.

Regardless, I have the same odds of winning one of the grand prizes. But if the #4 slot is picked as a winner and I was officially bumped to #5...then I'm going to wish I hadn't quit when I received the 'contest over' message 13 minutes to midnight.

But, hey, maybe #5 will get picked and then I'll have ravsters to thank.

I don't think they are going to pick a "slot". "Here's a hat with 20 names, pick three at random" seems more likely.

Don't worry guys. While there may be a loose monster or two around they wont count against the leader board. The numbers that were recorded up until 12 will count, any thing after, wont.

Thank you very much for clearing that up. I'm sitting at the bowling alley at 11 (12 your time), and I get the "Mansion is Closed" message. I check on the leader board a few times for funsy and noticed that the leader board is still moving, eventually knocking me from 20th to 22nd. I assumed you guys would have snapped a picture of the board after you sent out the message but I was still very worried (needless to say, I was ready to cry like a five year old girl who just had her dolls taken away...I mean...punch a wall in a manly way!).

Sucks to be those guys who were 21 and 22 though. The last 20 spot was a real fight.

As for trying your best. This contest was all about the Early days of MMOs level of commitment and pure luck, Seriously last 2 hours was insane (sort of keeping with the motif I guess) with all the movement going on, so it was anyones ballgame.

Im just glad it is over. My eyes are killing me with floaters and sunspots that will take a couple days to heal from.

Well since I don't have a Kinect even if I do get the game it will end up being like a five buck profit from selling it. May just keep it if I do, even though there is no chance of me ever buying a Kinect myself.

Oh and also - sorry I haven't put my Undead Monster badge up in my top 4. It won't let me for some reason - I click on it and it just highlights the badges like it would text and they won't move. Any idea why?

Which web browser are you using? I cannot move my badges around when I am using IE 9. I have to switch to Chrome and then I can re-position my badges. I have not tried this with any other browser.

Wow, I went to bed after midnight sitting happily at rank 18 only to wake up this morning and find myself at rank 21. Needless to say there is now a small fist sized hole in my wall that needs fixing -_-

Huge relief to check the forum, and figure out what the hell happened. Caramel Frappe I don't blame you at all for freaking out, and tippy2k2 you and I were basically suffering the same fate. Still, I'm glad that the leader board ranks were "locked" in the contest records and that all of our hard work to get into and stay in the top 20 wasn't for naught for some cheap reason.

Well boys and girls, I had a lot of fun, although I don't believe I want to see another badge or profile with a pony picture for a very long time. Grats once again to my fellow top 20'ers, and with that I'm off to Home Depot for dry-wall and puddy.

thats the only think i could find on winner selection

I tried looking that up again last night, but couldn't find it...although I recall reading that earlier in the week. It said the top 20 get a chance at 1 of 3 grand prizes, everyone who plays gets a chance at 1 of 7 games. The 1 of 7 chance for everyone is why there were so many new accounts created during the contest period. I imagine there's at least a couple hundred (if not more) accounts created recently that only have the 2 contest badges. And I guarantee that you can tie a subsets of those accounts to one person. Hopefully, those accounts can be eliminated based on IP address.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't actually say "3 people will be chosen from the top 20 contestants to win the grand prize", but taking all the facts as a whole that's what can be discerned. Here's the info that leads to that understanding:

Introduction page under "Rules" - "Grand Prize Entries are received by participating in the event and having your name appear on the leaderboard as one of the top 20 in points earned at the end of the event."

Rules & Prizes page under "The Prizes" - "Grand Prize: One (1) of three XBOX 360 consoles with Kinect sensor and the Rise of NightmaresTM video game."

Rules & Prizes page under "Official Rules & Legal Stuff" #5 - "Ten (10) Finalists will be selected by The Escapist Staff (Staff) on or about September 13th, 2011 from all eligible entries received."


So, there will be ten winners with three being chose from the top 20 for the grand prize and the other seven chosen from among all the contestants. Hope this clears a few things up.

Assuming you did not click on any badges past the closing of the mansion, you were in the top 20.
