US only...

It doesn't cost that much to ship an xbox overseas and I'm sure you wouldnt have any legal problems for shiping it to most western countrys.
Shipping isn't the problem. It's every country having different laws when it comes down to doing contests, raffles etc that is the problem. ;)
I guess, but living in Europe I can easily order something from online shops in the US or even from indevidual people trough Ebay, so it must be possible to deal with the legal restrictions.

I just signed up and already feel like a bastard...For what it's worth, I'm sorry about my fellow Escapists from around the world. Look at it this way, the story behind this reads, "Your fellow Escapists are disappearing." I know a lot of people will be happier with less Americans around.

Now then, *puts on my RP pants*

*ahem*

"Uuugh...where the hell am I?" *looks around* "Hello?! Can anybody hear me?! Hello!!!"

I've never seen this OP before, nice to meet you!

Also, damn the stupid US only rule. There's never a competition for us Kiwis!
Why do they do that? The majority of the Escapist is non-American, so why? Us Brits never get a look in.

They can make international contests when they wish. Like with March Mayhem (Which is the only one I can think of).
If only North America really matters, why not disable that ad bar that pops up at the bottom of the screen for the rest of us?

I'm bothered by the fact that every single contest is US-only.
This. It's incredibly bothersome that such an international community only ever gets contests aimed solely at the US.

So, it says on day one 'welcome to the mansion' and I'm registered, and I just see a mansion. nothing to click on, nothing to do. Do I seriously need to wait until tomorrow to actually do...anything?
Actually I hear this starts at 12 AM so wait until then.

I tip my hat to you, once again Escapist you have sincerely kicked the non-United states members in the nads.

Cheers.

It's less about legal matters and more about the corporate structure.
This is a promotion done by SEGA's American branch, which obviously doesn't concern itself with promotion outside its domain, so the contest is NA-only.

This particular contest is, but why exactly is every single contest done by American branches?

To me this just reeks of laziness and waiting for others to come to you for things like this instead of pro-actively approaching distributors across the globe for contests.

And every contest there's complaints about it being US-only, but apparently the crew here doesn't think it important enough to try fixing that.

If the Escapist really wants to be an international community then it needs to grow out of this "USA = The world" mindset and put some effort into providing for that community.

Great, another contest 70% of the community can't participate in.

Keep in mind that the Escapist only has so many staff and so many opportunities to create new connections. I do not doubt they are interested in pulling in events that include usually neglected regions, but it may not be very easy for them to manage it. Particularly if the laws or rules for such are very different from what their staff are trained to handle.

I've seen very little to suggest that the Escapist has some sort of "USA = The world" mentality. I believe their last contest included USA, Canada, and Oceania. I havn't seen any for the rest of the world just yet. Maybe this is something that can be nudged towards a remedy.

There is an 'Ideas for the Escapist' user group. Great place to go and post suggestions on HOW they might manage a contest in your country sooner rather than later.

Just my two cents.
