This is what I hate about movies these days: I can no longer buy any trilogy sets anymore because they keep making sequels. It's like beating on a dead horse.

It may be because I have a bit of an admittedly weird and somewhat immature personal vendetta against Depp and every Pirates movie but the first one, but I was saying this stuff about the movie before it came out, but never so well.
I really hope it flops. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if it did- I didn't even know it was out today, and I saw the first commercial for it... today. Is it just in my area (which is your area, Bob, I'm about a half an hour out from Boston) that the advertisement campaign sucks, or is it all over?
Well... Bob didnt exactly make any startling revelations in this review, Im sure the obviousness of the movie being a cash grab was known by damn near everyone. The question though, are the people who are aware of its nature, actually aware? or painfully oblivious?

It's the best movie since the original one. Really sad to see all these people no longer going to enjoy it based on the opinion of one man...
So, I'm guessing that Bob's of the opinion that the Muppets were, is, and always will be awesome, no matter what.
I was KIND of interested in this movie, if only because I liked Pirates of the Carribean and wanted to see what they'd add to the table this time, but now... I mean, I knew the movie SEEMED like a creatively lacking cash-in for Disney to still try to keep it's once biggest movie franchise going, but I was kind of hoping for it to surprise me!

You know what? I liked this film. It was fun.
Screw the blatant cashing in, ignore the fact that it comes worryingly close at points to a remake of the first film, and focus on this one fact - it's fun. It's Johnny Depp, being Jack Sparrow. If you even vaguely enjoyed the other 3 films, that's probably why, and this is more of that.
And Geoffery Rush is still an awesome pirate, and hasn't changed half as much as MovieBob suggests.
If you liked the previous 3 films, go see this. If you didn't, don't. Simple. I actually thought it was better than 2, and quite possibly better than 3 as well. Nothing Curse of the Black Pearl though

That was the best analysis I've ever heard as to why you should never listen to the fans.
There are exceptions, like when they made Maleficent the leader of the Disney baddies in Kingdom Hearts (even casting Pete as her sidekick), but overall, don't let the fan favorite character take over the plot.

The first movie was fantastic -- an exercise in cool with some scenes that, as a kid when I watched it, I found quite scary, and filled with a sense of adventure
The second movie was darker, but also more quirky -- too quirky. Too much bad comic relief and ill-explained subplots (especially with regards to James Norrington).
The third movie was a disaster. All attempts at making sense were abandoned, and the only interesting premise -- the going over the edge of the world -- ended within the first third of film and was disappointingly shallow and boring. Everything about this movie was a horrific mess.
The fourth movie. haven't seen it, but its based on a book rather than some shit-pot script the writers cooked up to contrivedly (yeah that is a word, haters gonna hate) tie together the plotlines and bring Jack back from the dead for like a 5th time, but instead came from a standalone novel. I felt this had potential, despite the fact it insisted on bringing back the already tired and overused Barbossa.
Evidently, I was wrong to have any hope. I'll go watch Thor instead.
