I was honestly hoping for a review of Reunion, not just because I have genuiniely enjoyed pretty much every entry in the AP franchise (I have an imature sense of humor, so sue me) but also because I'm pretty sure Raid won't be playing in any theaters near me for at least a few more months. It looks pretty good I supose but I still prefer childish, stupid and topless comedy =).
Just saw AP Reunion. I "Liked" it. Not as bad as Pie 2, where they kept talking about funny stuff from part 1 (though there was some nostalgia points)without giving us new stuff to laugh at. In this case, I write, there were at least 3 good scenes.

Children of Men. An amazing film. Watch it

EDIT: Oops, forgot there are a couple cuts in it, but to be fair, it's still pretty awesome.
The cut at 4:22 is bloody smart, doesn't break the immersion and appearance of the long shot one bit.

Oh thank you for that Tirade on American Reunion, MovieBob. You have freed me from the demons of high school.

The Raid? Sold. Off I go now.

Bob, just a small point but please, if you're not going to review a film, just don't review it. And seriously don't spend a a quarter of the review another better film bitching about it.
Well, considering I'm also the same age as Bob and I hated the movie just as much, listening to him rip into it had to be the best part of the entire video. The Raid does't really interest me much so if Bob had spent the entire time focusing on his hatred for AP I would have been twice as pleased.

But he has to remind us how much his high school years sucked, same as every other time he hates a movie that panders to the crowd he hates.
Precisely. What's the point of him being mad about it if he can't get on a soapbox to make sure everyone knows that he's upset about it. I respect his knowledge and insight into the nuances of movies and movie making that I could never otherwise know, but Bob has been so preachy and lacking in objectivity lately that it makes me dread watching his reviews. When he reviewed movies I never planned on seeing, I would still watch the reviews just for the perspective that he provides. He seems more and more bitter, as well as full of himself lately.

And as a professional critic, isn't it his responsibility to put his personal feelings aside and review any and all films regardless of how he personally feels about it? Can we take him seriously when his attitude is "I refuse to review that one because I really hate the franchise and everything it stands for,"? I thought being a critic meant putting those feelings aside and giving each movie and unbiased review.

This reminds me of his rant when Scream 4 was released. Particularly the part where his claim to fame was being the "know it all movie guy," and then the original scream was released and people allegedly began comparing him with "that guy from the scream movie that like...is really into movies and stuff!" So Bob got his feelings hurt because he was no longer a unique and beautiful snowflake, but written off as a caricature from a Wes Craven movie. I truly believe that Bob is a movie/comic book villain waiting to happen. He isn't Professor X. He isn't Clark Kent, and he sure as hell isn't Bruce Wayne. He's the (in his mind) bullied, outcast kid that we all know should know better, and should be able to rise above hate, but instead of using his talents to try making the world a better place, he would lash out at all those that he felt has wronged him, and all those that didn't appreciate his "genius." He says as much in his chronicle review.

I pray to the powers of the universe that Bob never receives superpowers.

Have to agree. I actually almost didn't watch this review today because I was thinking "Ugh it's bob again." I loved his reviews back in the day and relied on him as a good source for movies to see...

But every time he disses on the 90's (my generation thank you very much. I know a lot of things in it sucked and it wasn't everyone's precious little decade the 80's but still) I get so pissed.

That and ever since Sucker Punch... I am EXTREMELY Wary of whether to trust his opinions now... and have to rely on other reviewers.

That and the week when he accused all people who actually enjoyed highschool only liking it because they bullied someone.

To be honest, he probably needed a time filler because, while The Raid is good, it doesn't sound like the kind of film he can talk about for long enough to fill a whole review; it's just too simple in what it has to offer.

Considering how many people are complaining about how much of the video was spent on the American Pie tirade, it seems I'm the only person to have realised this.
His reviews are four to five minutes long, now most reviewers I watch spend ten to fifteen minutes some twenty minutes. If he can't think of things to say about a film for four then he has no buisness calling himself a critic.

I don't think it's so bad that Bob should have to explain why he isn't reviewing a mainstream comedy. Sure I think The Raid is more his deal and that should probably take precedence either way, but you don't get clicks for regularly reviewing niche movies that far fewer people are going to see.

That said, the reason I'm really jumping in is that I think Bob is kind of a hypocrite (yes, I know, not the first time anyone's said this on this board).

He hates the Scream movies because they're self-referential, but he's willing to prop up any Joss Whedon property?

Self-referential (or very minimally self-aware) IS Whedon's wheelhouse. Which I don't really mind as long as it's not simultaneously constantly beating me over the head with how clever it is to the point it becomes precious, which Whedon does (and which the Scream movies are, too).

But while I'm here, I may as well bring up The Raid. Damn, I actually want to see this, and on stuff like it, Bob and I tend to agree. (Though I can't imagine why he'd like this and not dig "The Expendables", which I did enjoy, immensely, self-referential as the dickens though it was.)

So, I'm actually hoping it's pretty good.

Bob... Do you want a hug?

Come 'er for a hug Bob, come on, let it all out

I know High School was crap Bob, but the important thing is that you don't let a bad experience define you, or if you do, you make it define you in a positive way. When you drop the angst you're a half way decent human being, you think the guys that picked on you in high school can say the same? I have all mine on Facebook, and I can tell you right now they have all knocked some slut up and don't have the financial position to support their new family. There was this wave of superiority that washed over me, but now I kinda feel bad for them: They're stuck at home looking after kids and surviving on a pittance while I'm racing motorbikes and jumping out of perfectly functioning areoplanes.

You're better than this Bob, I believe it; You need to believe it too

Am I the only one who thinks this is just a rushed review? That he talked about AP not to dredge up his own high school memories, but just to pad out the video? Think about it: everything he had to say about The Raid, he said last week. It's awesome, go see it. Since he had nothing left to say about it, he then decided to talk about AP, because, hey, why the hell not?

And it STILL fell on the short side. All I can say, Bob, is enjoy PAX.

The Raid

If you like a lot of punching and kicking, this is the movie to see.

Watch Video
Bob when almost every comment by your fans and viewers is totally unrelated to the actual movie you are reviewing, it may be time to re-evaluate how you do your job. Sorry high school was rough.

OT: The Raid looks dope, I think I'll see it tonight.

Do you know why I couldn't go to my high school reunion? Because my classmates picked a time when I was doing my finishing project for my worthless degree! I would've loved to see them all, but my fucking useless university had to come first, now I can't get a job because I have no relatives in my chosen field and am overqualified for anything else I could do.

You know what? Ted DOES look funny. But you know why I'm not going to see it? Mark Wahlberg.

Mark Wahlberg cannot carry a movie. He only shines in limited roles (The Departed) but ask him to be a lead role, and he stinks. (Max Payne, The Shooter, Planet of the Apes) I would say he's one of the worst actors to lead a movie.

But lotanerve, I remember The Italian Job and The Fighter being wildly successful movies. Hmm...yeah....that almost blows my argument out of the water if it wasn't for my belief that the other actors did an outstanding job IN SPITE of Mark Wahlberg trying to muck it up with his horrible acting.

But back to my point, TED will be another promising film only to be ruined by the poor casting choice of Mark Wahlberg. Even Elijah Wood would have been a better choice...(yes, I'm quite disappointed by the American version of Wilfred)

I think Bob is overthinking his high school days.

ba-dum tish

Seriously, what possible reaction did he think he was going to get? Bob, I'm pretty sure you know just as well as we do how this whining about perceived "jocks" everywhere (like a conspiracy theorist in a tin-foil hat) is infecting every level of your "work."

If you can't think of enough opinions to fill a review, just review a different movie. Goodness' sakes, review American Pie if you want to rant about it so much. Just please, stop insulting all of humanity with your stupid ad hominem attacks on what you think the audience for the movies is or does. This is the same crap as with Transformers.

Incidentally, Sucker Punch is one of the worst films of all time. Right up there with Transformers, and it's bad for exactly the same reasons. In fact, I think Transformers was less crassly commercial, less of a music video (with no plot) and less sexist.

So what if MovieBob wants to go off on a tangent. He did a fine job of reviewing "The Raid" and really explained properly on why people should go see it. The problem was that it wasn't long enough to meet his normal video length, though I don't find it to be a problem, and what he chose to fill that extra time with is what he chose.

What? Did you want that time spent with him reiterating in different forms "It's good go see it"? I really don't think there was anything else that he could say.

Of course, there still would be people bitching if he had not done the AP part and just put up "The Raid" part. People would be bitching that the video was too short, oh no!

If you don't like what he is doing in the first part, or whatever part, just skip it and stop the complaining.

Heck, don't even watch him at all(I'll keep watching because he's good at what he does). I find it hilarious that there is usually such a large amount of people bitching and moaning in his review threads with comments that are the equivalent of, "I don't like that Bob does this, he should be doing this", "I've never agreed with Bob's reviews, and I still don't", "I don't like Bob and neither should you, stop defending him."

It makes no sense that these people keep watching his reviews. People, if you don't like what he does, don't watch. If you do keep watching and saying these things, I'm going to start thinking that such people have a closet love for Bob and everything he does. =P
