OT - Well, that's pretty bad. I'm not entirely surprised by the fact that people are saying it, but I'm a bit disturbed that someone with that much power was given a panel, came to it drunk, and proceeded to spew such verbal diarrhea. I tried EVE, once, and could never get into it. Now I'm glad I didn't.

Because there are at least five people that were not registered before that came to comment on the uninformed armchair drivel and wholesale judgmental opining presented by the commenters on this post?

Just because the mittani is a douche does not mean that all tens of thousands of EVE players are, that's throwing the baby out with the bathwater, and reeks of moral high horsing.

It was within the game, and as an Eve player who pays attention to actual facts I can say with complete certainty: he will not be banned, and he will win the CSM chairmanship by another landslide next year. Personally I couldn't care, it doesn't effect me. Goons on the other hand are over the moon at the shit storm this has stirred up outside of Eve, not only that they generating tears and hate from ignorant people in game, they are now generating tears and hate from ignorant people outside of game.

I didn't say it wasn't in the game. I said the rest of the stuff which people do - which would otherwise be trolling in other games - is encouraged, and is not indicative of the people doing them (which was the implication of the guy I quoted). This is being a dick in a way that the developers did not intend and do not support.

They gave out the information of a suicidal person for him to be harassed. They attempted to cause the death of a person without reason.

I don't particularly care which European country was the last to execute a person for his crimes. Regardless of current practice, for some people four walls is three too many.

It is perhaps murder but it is less severe than what these people attempted. They attempted to take life without reason. Someone who would take their lives would be doing it for the betterment of the world.

OT: I expected this out of a MOBA community, but not necessarily EVE. I fail to see how they thought this was a good/acceptable idea.

Ive seen some bad trolling before... and whats even funnier is that he trys it again further down but actually has one or two badges... he could at least post one of his supposed links.

Concerning this whole fan run team thing, it seems to be blowing up in a few peoples faces lately. Why are these people allowed free stuff, like BETA testing, merchandise... oxygen?

It's a real shame that none of the good things eve players do for each other make the news... seriously, my corporation and alliance are some really good people. I can remember one guy ( a math major ) who tutored me in Precalculus over skype and saved me from failing math. Or this one time when we helped one of the alliance commanders make it through his divorce (which was likely brought on by his being an alliance commander but no one said anything about that).

I take some comfort in the fact that CCP has a history of really bringing the hammer down on this sort of thing, and that a few people will be seeing perma-bans and likely termination notices, in the case of the representatives.

Remember this is a news article though. We're coming at it from a different perspective, I'm assuming they were taking it as forum troll from a drama queen. Which you know, you do meet that sort of person on forums.

It's probably a good reason never to forum harass or troll to the best of your ability though, because you never know where the other person is actually at

There is also this possibility, that it was just an average nerd rage or drama queen. But encouraging someone to kill his or herself is still really fucked up even if you think you are trolling.

Seriously, can you cut the attitude and be, I don't know... Useful?
I'm not going to go condemn the entirety of a game based on the actions of a few. I've played good games with bad communities, and I've had terrible experiences on games with supposedly great social environments. No one group represents the entirety of the player base, and dramatic reporting aside, most people here know it, too.
If you care enough to try and change others' perception of a news article like this, then don't half-ass it.
