48 hours that does not sound so bad I mean if my 360 was working I would probably have at least 30 hours only because of school being in the way, but with summer soon I still won't be back to that amount because my 360 doesn't work and I really need to get a job. But still if I could I probably would come close to that 48 hours...maybe I do have a problem.

...?

I guess I play around 30 or so hours of videogames a week (Atleast 3 to 5 on weekdays after school, with around 12 or so over the weekend)

Not 48 though.

Jesus christ.

I used to be like that when I played WoW though. Glad I quit.

So, let's say someone works full time and is an Extreme Gamer; if they get a full eight hours of sleep, that only leaves a grand total of 24 hours left over in a week for other activities. Even we aren't that obsessed with videogames.
Says who?
I work 36 hours a week and have 4 days off a week. It's not unusual for me to play games for 10-15 hours a day on my days off. That equals A LOT more than 24 hours a week

The Extreme Gamers are probably all unemployed or about to be. It's the only way that's realistically possible.

Two days a week... that's it? (only if I get a game that I know I can't beat in two days) I don't think extreme gamers need help; just another hobby.
agreed, i probably come under the "extreme gamer" category based on the fact there is bugger all to do where i live :p and all my friends live 30 minutes walk away to a place with even less to do

How do people not get bored and need to do other things? I suppose I'm the minority on this particular forum but unless a game is extremely engrossing for me I usually need to take a break after about 2 hours, and I usually don't come back until the next day.

Right now I'm averaging maybe 4 hours a day but that's only because I haven't started at college yet and I've only just started looking for work too. So I tend to have a shitload of free time. Once I start working and studying I can't imagine gaming as much as I have been.. Probably 1 or 2 hours a day. Quite frankly there are better things to do when you have fleeing amounts of free time.

Each to their own I guess but I really think life is more fulfilling if you try to do more social things instead. I'd get pretty lonely if I spent 48 hours a week gaming.

Let's do the math on that. There are 7 * 24 = 168 hours in a week. Subtract 40 hours for a full time job and 56 hours for sleeping, leaving 72 hours. Take that 48 hours for gaming out and there's still 24 hours left for eating, commuting, shopping, chores, and socializing.

There's no casual gamer? So would I not be considered a gamer at all? I rack up about 6-9 hours a week. Sometimes less, sometimes more.

Eh, 48 hours is extreme? I was clocking in 70 to 80 hours a week in WoW for months in a row when I was still actively raiding. Do I get a special bonus category? And yes, that's only counting WoW hours per week. Though, atm I just stare at stuff all day instead of playing. Fail.

That could be talking about practically anything though, after all, the big name titles are on Steam too.

Wow, that's intense. And I thought I played a lot.

To put it in perspective: at school, I don't have my games with me, and I'm usually extremely busy, so the only playing I do is the occasional bit of DS and tinkering around with (the now on mac) Steam. But that's way less than an hour a week, probably less than an hour a month at my busiest.

Now I'm home for only a few weeks, trying to get as much play time in as possible. I don't think I can say I put more than 8 hours a day in in the last few days, so let's round up and say 8 on the days I play. There's also the time to see friends, watch movies, see the family... so maybe 48 hours a week. When I'm cramming all my playing in for an entire semester/year.

How does one do that every week?!

Lessee... on average, I play games (be it MMO like Runescape (I don't degrade myself to playing WoW), a PC game (replaying Fallout 3 at the mo with some downloaded mods, waiting for New Vegas), my DS (Professor Layton ftw), my stand-away games like Darkthrone or just random Flash games on sites like Kongregate or Armor Games) from just about the moment my computer finishes booting up a few minutes after I wake up [the joys of having my computer next to my bed :p], till about half an hour before I go to work at midday (or 1pm, depending on the day). I usually wake up at around 7:30-9am... so on average that's about 2 - 3 hours (giving time to grab breakfast after morning rituals (shower, shave, etc)) on weekday mornings each day (say 3 hours a morning, so ~15 since I work Mon - Fri), then when I get home 6-7 hours later, I sometimes cook, I sometimes have chores, go out Thursdays... so usually on my comp again from about 8pm till 1am, so that's another 5 hours per night (totally ~40 so far).
If we're going to assume this is a weekend when I'm NOT doing anything, I'm usually again at home gaming all day. Same wake up hours and bed (7:30am-9am till 1am). Cutting out time to eat and bathroom breaks (and the usual hygiene stuff), I'd say that's about 10-12 hours of assorted gaming per weekend day that I'm free. Then again, I'm usually out with friends or in town for at least some length of time on a Saterday... Sundays are usually my free day.

So cutting out Saterday as a less-than-average time and just counting Sunday's hours, that leaves me with a total of around 50 - 52 hours a week of gaming. Very little of that is what most count as "Extreme Gamer" games like Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto, Gears of War, WoW, etc.
I don't count myself as "extreme" when it comes to gaming. I count myself as someone who is lacking in a social life. "Extreme" gamers would be those who spend every waking moment, and much of their nocturnal hours, playing games that have no real end or point to them.

PS. Sorry for the starting explaination...

I hate to say it, I probably rank up much more than 48 hours a week. The second I get back from college I'm straight onto games, usually for around 9 or 10 hours before going back to bed, and then come the 3 days I'm not at college and I'm on for around 16 hours roughly. Christ I have a problem.
