Fable 3 Needs to Earn $150 Million to Prevent "Withering"

Umm...?

I think he's overshooting the mark a bit here when it comes to sales points. I mean, yeah, he's missing the point completely, but 5,million is... patently unrealistic for almost any game.

2,million is considered rousingly successful, and if you're damn lucky you can break 3,million. Hell, neither Mass Effect nor Mass Effect 2 have broken the 3,million mark (Mass Effect 2 hasn't broken 1.5 yet) and they're basically considered greatest hits.

Molyneux, you just... ... you don't comprehend numbers at all do you?

I think the folks from Lionhead and Bethesda need to get together and make a game. Just think about it: Bethesda makes open-world games along the lines of what Peter Molyneux originally promised in Fable, but their games tend to come off as somewhat emotionally flat. Lionhead, on the other hand, makes games that have lots of humor and emotion (or at least, attempts at it) at the cost of freedom and strong gameplay. Combine the two, and you might just have the best thing ever.

Interesting, yes, innovative, not so much.

You can keep adding to HL2 on the same Source engine it has always been on. As long as they are still interesting, they will still be played.

Well, for anyone who wants the franchise to die, they have a goal as well, making sure <5 million people buy it. If it comes out for PC, I may get it when the price drops considerably, but considering the Steam deal we just had and the fact that the purchases from said deal took like 200 gigs away from my comp, I think I'm done buying games for a bit

Well, i'll buy the game. And just before half the Peter haters jump in here, at least Peter and Lionhead try something different with their games.
I presume by "different with their games" that you mean different from other developers.
Exactly that. Lionhead games are very "WE'RE GONNA DO THIS AND ITS GONNA BE GREAT AND YOUR'LL LOVE IT" and that enthusiasm is something the gaming industry is lacking.
I agree with this. I'd rather have Molyneux and his enthusiasm about his products then someone like Kotick who views them as little more then a business. Sure, he goes overboard, but he seems to get even more excited about his own games then the most die-hard fanboys.

And on topic, I can safely say I'll be picking up Fable 3 when it comes out.

He's gone from promising us the world to begging us for money.

Seriously... any publicity will do for Peter Molyneux. I certainly wont be giving him my AU$120 after the timebomb that was Fable II

Wither?

So if Lionhead doesn't get back 150 mil' from Fable 3 the games will dry up and shrivel?

I mean their business might suffer a bit but the game itself will still be played.
When did that stop being the main focus?

Molyneux, I thought you were better than this.

In all seriousness Peter is sounding a bit like a beggar right there.
Sssh, Pete is like a sad Puppy you don't want to disappoint. Just imagining him sad breaks my heart.
I like making him sad for kicks and giggles.

In all honesty does anyone other than fable fanboys listen to peter sheesh. The man needs to stop overhyping stuff and stop begging for cash, its just sad.

I disagree, i played through Fable 2 about 6 times through before I got bored of it. Then again, not everyone enjoyed Fable 2 as much as I did...

Well, I'll be getting Fable 3 anyway. I quite love the franchise despite the undeserved hate people sling at it, I think it's a great game.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great game. It's a game that put the fun back in my increasingly shitty xbox 360 gaming experience, but having said that, I must add that Fable 2 had a really, really shitty ending. I was left in a state of shock when I found that the game had ended with me just holding down my joystick. All those good 13 hours I spent on that game, wasted on that single crappy ending.

People, people.

I submit to you that Peter M.'s comment is not what it appears to be.

Think about it for just one second.

By stating that Fable 3 needed to make 150 million in order to "even out", publicly, he has succeeded in generating a metric ton of:

A) Advertising. This statement will be seen across the webs, and in every magazine that caters to gamers.

B) Interest in the nature/specifications of this project. Everyone is now wondering just exactly why this project needs so much profit margin. People are more likely to purchase this game, or at least, they will pay it more attention then they would have, had he not said that.

Imagine if the producers of Superman 64 said their new 3DS Superman game needed to sell over a million copies. People wont forget that the last offering was a steaming pile of super-turds... but theyll certaintly be interested in this new "thing" that costs so much money to "even" out.

Take everything with a grain of salt, lads and lasses. Read between the lines.

Sure, I'll help you Peter, I'll buy it, but only if after Fable 3 you get working on The Movies 2.
Seriously... and no Kinect support for it. If you get working on that game, I'll buy two copies of Fable.

The problem with Fable is that while the games are mediocre, the world is incredible. Through the sequels the world evolves and gets richer with back story and the progressions feel quite natural. The mythology and history is so compelling that I get the feeling he interesting stuff happens where and when the protagonist is NOT around.

I would love to see Fable 10 set in the future but the plot of the games is horrible and the gameplay is functional at best. It is a waste of such a good scenario.

I'll buy it, I really enjoyed Fable II, even though it broke my heart.. My poor Dog!

Hope they have the sense to test for some of the bugs which plagued FableII though.. I mean for instance, Giving my wife a second ring, she thinks I'm cheating on her when I buy a new house, so she leaves me and commits suicide and the CSA take my kid.. so I get drunk and just whore it up and get an STD... Is this a game?
