Fable 3 Needs to Earn $150 Million to Prevent "Withering"

My interest in Fable withered way back with the first one. I thought it was fun at first, then before I knew it I was addicted and shortly was near the end. So I took a bit of a break because my schedule was busy or something. When I came back to it, I realized how much of the game I had been tolerating, and how much I loathed the whole package. It was initially addictive because of the MMO crap, but take a step back and you realize the paper thinness of the whole presentation. Four distinct weapon types is unforgivable, your character ages way too unrealistically fast, everything is just shallow in general... Beating on Fable is unoriginal, but man did I hate that game.

I think this kind of demonstrates a big part of the problem with the gaming industry as a whole, and is one of the things I'm always talking about.

It's not enough to make a profit, even millions of dollars, "oh no... we have projected this massive amount of profit that we feel we deserve, and if we don't make that much it's a failure....". What's more a lot of companies seem to claim the amount they fall short by as a loss.

This is the kind of mentality that is killing the game industry.

I mean honestly, I understand they are out to make a profit, this isn't a charity, but when your looking at numbers like that, it's just getting ridiculous.

What's more, if they do make 150 million dollars, it's going to be funny if they are still crying about all the money on top of that that they should have, but obviously lost due to piracy. :p
The whole idea behind "money we would have made in some fantasy world where nobody was pirating our game and if everyone who is pirating now would have bought a brand new copy" in the games industry is a massive pile of cow manure anyway. I agree with everything you said.

If you can't make games with the knowledge that it WILL eventually be pirated by somebody, somewhere, and be cool with that instead of trying to flog legit customers with useless DRM that doesn't affect pirates at all, you have no business being in the games industry in the first place. You should have taken into account how piracy would have affected your profits from the start. As long as there are third-world countries, there will be piracy, and even eliminated 100% of all piracy from the US would do very little/nothing as far as slowing the amount of illegal cracking, copying and sharing of games. I mean, you can buy all the latest games and movies in those third-world countries (and also China, which isn't one but has a lot of bootleg junk), too. Only they're a lot cheaper for some reason, aren't they? That's the real piracy problem there, the people copying illegally and selling for profit.

"Withering?" What the hell is that supposed to mean? That fable might end if it doesn't sell 5 million copies? Oh noes? After the extremely dumbed down experience offered by the first one and the confusing exclusivity of the second, I think molyneux is speaking in self-fulfilling prophecy at this point.

I'd like them to fix the god awful frame rate issues and game crashes from Fable 2. That would be a great start.

Indeed described my feelings exactly....Most Lionhead Fanboys won't admit that Fable hype is based on hoping the flaws of the previous title will be fixed etc

I think Dragon age 2 is heading toward a similar fate.
