Sorry I just put up with a lot of people who aren't.Squarez said:Dude, I was kidding, cool it.
I'm just confused as to how you communicate with more than a one person at a time. We all know how things can change when trying to organise something and imagine not having a platform to be able to inform your friends of your plans all at once (facebook) or while not in your house (mobile phone) could be a major pain in the ass.
Umm... I don't think I'm being "cool" or anything like that, I just don't have time for facebook (because I'm very busy) and if I work from home why would I waste money on a cell phone when I can have a home phone and save a couple hundred a month.mr_rubino said:Vocabulary word of the day: Luddite.
Young folks nowadays think it's cool if they're the ones doing it.
In her case, it was quite silly of her to wait to call if she wanted something urgent, however email (or Facebook in that case) feel more respectful of other people's time because phone requires a person's entire attention at the one random moment you call whereas an email or private message doesn't assume people are available to respond right now or that they should drop everything they're doing to respond.Whargarble said:I got rid of my facebook after I had a friend of mine call me up and literally yell at me about how I never checked it. Apparently she had been "trying to get a hold of me for a week now!" and was angry I never responded.
I asked her why she didn't just call me, like she was doing right now.
She hung up.
Excuse the double post, but what kind of phone are you looking at that costs a couple hundred a month? I have a basic prepaid phone, which I buy a $30 card for once every two months -- and I could easily squeeze another month's use out of one card if it didn't use service days in addition to minutes. You don't have to shell out for a smart phone and a data plan to have the use of a phone that you can carry in your pocket.WOPR said:Umm... No problem with the double post.Owyn_Merrilin said:Excuse the double post, but what kind of phone are you looking at that costs a couple hundred a month? I'll say I had a myspace for a month or 2 for that exact reasonIronic Pirate said:Just hook it up with your email, and it sends you one every time someone posts on your wall, etc. Ignore anything with the words Farm Ville in it, and you'll be fine. Seriously, the time commitment is less time than it took to write your OP, and you get fewer friends bitching at you to make one.
You could just check it every time you check your email, it actually takes less time. For that matter, I check Facebook daily, but I only check my email two or three times a week -- but that's because Facebook has taken over for everything but business e-mails, not because e-mail is less invasive than Facebook. It sounds to me like you're just looking for an excuse to avoid dealing with people.WOPR said:I'll say I had a myspace for a month or 2 for that exact reasonIronic Pirate said:Just hook it up with your email, and it sends you one every time someone posts on your wall, etc. Ignore anything with the words Farm Ville in it, and you'll be fine. I made it to shut them up (because back then I just hated everyone I came in contact with instead of ALMOST everyone I came in contact with)
then I was getting 3x the messages form them telling me to "CHECK YOUR MYSPACE!"
I did something to shut people up
and I get bugged more
luckily that noise they made stopped when facebook became popular
So what's worse?
"Make a facebook" "Make a facebook" "Make a facebook"
or
"CHECK YOUR FACEBOOK!" "CHECK YOUR FACEBOOK!" "CHECK YOUR FACEBOOK!" "CHECK YOUR FACEBOOK!" "CHECK YOUR FACEBOOK!" "CHECK YOUR FACEBOOK!" "CHECK YOUR FACEBOOK!" "CHECK YOUR FACEBOOK!" "CHECK YOUR FACEBOOK!"
(yes I did that a proper amount of times so you could see the spam difference)
That's probably what would happen to me too. To be honest, I don't want to talk to most of the people I'm friends with on my facebook.Private Custard said:That's what I did back in August. I still pop in for a peep every so often to see how my nieces in NZ are growing up.WordyLAnn said:I jumped on the bandwagon to early for that to happen, but I hardly get on facebook now. I was actually thinking about taking all of the pictures and things off of my facebook and then just letting it sit there forever. It's not like my friends try and contact me on there anyway.
I left my e-mail address as my last status update. In three months, I've had no e-mails from any of my 'friends'!
Get a social website that steals your email addresses to send to spammer sites for them to make cash? Just because all the weak minded individuals are doing it doesn't mean you have to, to be a leader you don't follow the mob mentality, you set yourself apart.MR T3D said:no, got facebook, and check it like email, its not that hard, when it comes to social interaction, one does have to conform to certain norms, and having a facebook page is one of them.

Clearly, you're not worth the time of the people you considered friends either.WOPR said:That would be "get a facebook" not "get facebook" I can't go out and buy the site, and it's not like I DON'T have access to it already.Alon Shechter said:Crazy, yet very easy idea and I'm just throwing it out there...
GET FACEBOOK.
But hey, when there are 28 ways to contact me, if you're too lazy to send me something instead of just "facebook'ing" it, then you're/it's not worth my time.
Number of times my email addresses have been "stolen" by facebook? Zero.Diamondback One said:Get a social website that steals your email addresses to send to spammer sites for them to make cash? My goodness, people.
if that were really all it was then i still wouldn't be able to cause I'd forget (like with my online German work) but that's not it. people expect things everyday. there are people checking every MINUTE cause that IS their LIFE and to be honest that scares me quite a bit.DeadlyYellow said:You can't spare two minutes to write a status update every three to four weeks?Tanto-chan said:It's annoying and i don't have the time to sink into such a massive timesink.
