They should set it in Texas, We have a 9-1 gun to person ratio, Mountains, Deserts, Forests, Rivers, Cows, Cowboys, and a bunch of football stadiums that could be converted into Gladiator arenas.
That would be an interesting setting for the next game.

-Sprinting. That was a godsend in Skyrim. I was so happy to see that sprinting function in the first gameplay trailer that I almost crapped myself. Fallout's wastelands are fun to explore, yes. The landscape is mostly too bumpy and craggy to properly use a motorcycle in such a large game. I want to at least be able to run places rather than fast traveling. Also, maybe I'd be able to keep ahead of those damned Deathclaws for the extra second I need to get through a door.
I agree, sprinting is good.

-Make sure to keep iron-sights. That was my favorite part of New Vegas. I used manual aiming down my iron sights more than I used V.A.T.S.
The V.A.T.S. can be useless at times like how I can use it to shot a guy five feet away with a shotgun, but it will still miss. I think they should keep iron-sights, but in place of V.A.T.S. they should do a bullet-time like thing that still works off the Action Points thing. I've seen mods for New Vegas that seem to work pretty well, so it wouldn't be hard to do.

-I really like how lockpick in Skyrim just makes it easier to pick harder locks or gives you some good perks. I was able to open Master locks without ever putting in any skill points. Cost me a lot of lockpicks, but whatever. It always pissed me off in the Fallout games that if I wanted this amazing gun I'd have to actually sacrifice my GUNS skill to raise my LOCKPICK just to open a door to get it. "Okay, this lock is average, need Lockpick of 50." *Level up, dump all points into Lockpick...SKILL AT 49*
I love the lock picking system in Skyrim. They took the lockpick from Fallout(which, while still annoying at times, is way better than Oblivion's) and allowed you to pick any lock at any time like in Oblivion. I can't tell you how many times I've forgotten about a locked door or safe in the recent Fallout games because I was nowhere near a high enough level in lockpick to open it until weeks later when I decide to loot the place again. This is also true for unmarked locked things in the middle of the wasteland.

-A much longer and better thought out story. Skyrim's campaign was noticeably longer than either of the Fallout games, which could literally be knocked out within a day of playing from start to finish. Hell, if you remember where the vault your father is in is you can skip going to Megaton and Rivet City altogether and just go there. Beat the campaign in about ten hours, once. Seriously underleveled and it was tough, but beat it.
It's been said on another recent Fallout thread or two that the next game should be made by Bethesda, but the story written by Obsidian. Although I usually knock off the main story for exploration anyway so what do I care?

It's been said many times before in many different places, but I don't think the Fallout series could ever leave the United States and still be considered an actual Fallout game. We don't know if Vaults were built in other countries (no Vaults, no half the stuff the games have been about) and we also don't know what happened to those other countries mostly because no one has been able to or even tried to cross the oceans as far as we know and they never really mention Mexico or Canada.

EDIT: Almost forgot, they should definitely make it so that you can run into almost every enemy no matter what level you are like in New Vegas and Skyrim. Adds an interesting little twist to the game because it makes you think a bit more cautiously when exploring a new area.

Closer to the time FO3 was released, I did a few speedruns. My fastest time was 3 hours, and that was not using the glitch to go through one of the walls. I was level 4 when I finished :)
I was about level 12-15 or something. The only reason it'd been that long is because I'd taken a few detours to do some quests to get certain weapons and items and also I wanted to get a few good perks under my belt before taking on the Enclave and Vault 8.

I'm sure that there's a speedrun somewhere on the net where somebody knocks out the game in just under two hours or something.

Fallout 3 was great, New Vegas had amazing DLC stories (the narrations at the end of Old WOrld Blues was great and I wanted the next DLC so bad), and Skyrim had an amazing world (But needed a better and longer main quest). I feel the only places Fallout could be held is in US and Canada, as Europe was annihilated, I believe, the mideast nuked itself to hell, and you were bombarded with anti-Chinese propaganda (For damn good reasons, communism fills me with righteous capitalist rage)so I don't really want to be in enemy territory.

The other thing is that it might be made for the new systems as an incentive for people to purchase it. I mean, would it really be unexpected for Microsoft or Sony to pull something like that?

I hope to see what happened to the Native Americans, as they probably made it out pretty good because most of their land had no importance what so ever, and I think I read on the Vault that the Native Americans took back their land when the U.S. government dissolved(vaporized).

Cold War participants US v USSR; On the sidelines are the rest of the world. Everyone was crapping bricks over it and taking sides (sort of), but the main participants were the US & the USSR.

Another factor to the Fallout Universe is that nobody knows what the world outside the states is like. It would be a huge change to the series to be set elsewhere, but I feel that the games' setting is starting to get a bit stale in the USA.
Yes the cold war was predominantly US and USSR but let's not forget that Fallout has an alternate universe in which I'm pretty sure other countries would've got involved. Making a less 'stale' Fallout game should be easy enough while being canon at the same time.
Nevermind the war that sets things in motion was US vs. CHINA.

Some intel from the wiki...

In August 2010, Todd Howard revealed in an interview with Eurogamer that Bethesda was working on two projects; one had been in development for 2 years (beginning after Fallout 3 was released), and the other was still in pre-production.[4] It's now known that the title farther along in development was The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. There is still no confirmation on what the second game is.
So FO4 is almost certainly a Bethesda project.

Have Obsidian do the writing, but have Bethesda do the world designing and voice casting.

And better sidequests than in New Vegas.

And tweak the gameplay, Skyrim style.

And PLEASE try to keep the 1950s feel. I felt it fading a bit in New Vegas with the weaponry. The world still had all of that present, but the weaponry [small](and some armory)[/small] made me concerned...

Also, I'd like more enemy variety. Well, really more variety on how the enemies fight you. Like have raiders be much more cover based, while the Enclave or mutants be much more in your face, due to their superior firepower/strength.

And bring back weapon crafting! There was something much more satisfying to build my flaming death sword than find it on some damn Legionary. Hell, why don't you go farther and do armor crafting? That'd be awesome! Have your own special armor that you built yourself!

How about armor mods? Just like weapon mods, but for armor.

That's all I got for the moment...

I really liked the crafting/enchanting/alchemy system from Skyrim, so I think that should be present in the game.

Modding your guns and armour with parts you've cannibalised from other guns would be cool.

For example imagine if you've got a gun with an extended clip or whatever, you cannibalise (disenchant) that, lose the gun, gain the extended clip which can be added onto another gun. It could work really well.

Ooh, I like that idea.

How about using normal guns like melee weapons, and adding a knife to whatever weapon would be necessary. Ta dah! Instant bayonet!

It would add amazing depth to the game, like building machine shotguns and stuff. Obviously it'd have to be implemented well so you couldn't abuse the system but I think it could be a good idea.

I also really liked the alchemy system in Skyrim so I'd like to see that return, like a "lab" system.

In regards to Fallout 4... Well, I would like to see the world having realistically progressed. Seriously. It's been what? 200 years since the war? Even the inhabited places look run-down and and filthy. Is no one in FO universe OCD about their cleaning?
Maybe even opening a freaking window. Every single window is either boarded up or nonexistant. Its like they don't even understand that windows can close. (Well, I mean it is rather easy for protection, but even on the tenth level of boarded windows?)

I liked New Vegas's campfire system. One thing that kinda bugged me, though, was that you already knew how to make 90% of the stuff. I liked that in Skyrim, you could experiment or buy/find recipes. If they do a mixture of each, that'd be great!

All I want from Fallout 4 is the ability to pick a lock without investing most of my skill points into it.

In Skyrim, you can pick any lock with shit skill given enough patience and lockpicks.

Also, I want good AI for a change.

Skyrim's was DERP-ier than ever before since I can land INFINITE STEALTH ATTACKS.

I'd love it if they moved away from all the stuff they've done before. I know someone who works on Fallout really loves the NCR, wants to put it in most of their games. But its over, the NCR doesn't fit well in a wasteland anymore. They've tamed crime and cleared out dangers.

The NCR counteracts the wasteland. Its grown too big and now it needs to be left alone. Move somewhere away from either coast, away from landmarks like Las Vegas which can't live up to expectations and draw attention away from everything else.

No, instead they need to move away, no Brotherhood of Steel, no Enclave, no NCR, no Legion nothing we already know. Move on to pastures new because the field you're standing is is about to be turned into a housing development.

No news yet, but here is what I want in it.
Dual Wielding weapons.
Being a ghoul.
Obsidian making the characters. Pretty much everyone in 3 was forgettable comparatively.
Have an official back story for the protagonist that isn't revealed in DLC.
The Scaling style and enemy placement in New Vegas. I didn't like that in 3 after a while molerats and weaker enemies just disappeared and were replaced with Giant Rad Scorpions.
Probably a feel and setting more like 3's. The Grey, radiation filled wasteland with very few settlements.
On the note of settlements, make them feel bigger and/or populated. Pretty much all of the towns in 3, there weren't many people in those places. I don't want a place to have hundreds of people in it, just large enough to make since for a town. Places with around seven people in a wasteland full of raiders, supermutants, and other monsters wouldn't last very long at all.
If you have mounts, make some of them cars or motorcycles which have to be maintained constantly, and others the animals of the waste.
Bring in the 50 foot tall radscorpion holding cars outside a vault.
That is all I can think of right now.

I loved fallout 3 to pieces. The only thing I would change is the gunplay a bit. It felt clunky at times and the sniper had too much travel time to be effective. But as I said, apart from that. Perfect game.

- Choose an ending like at new vegas.
- Sprint.
- Some kind of ride(bike,motorcycle,horse,fawkes).
- Not to put half the game hardcoded(mods).
- More character customization(height,fat,muscles,tits).
- Not to be entitled for one faction.
- Marriage,romance.
- Houses to buy(more than 1,mods don't count though).
- Hardcore mode.
- Fix V.A.T.S,alot of the time i use it there's almost a 2-3 minutes delay.
- Rob(people,stores).
- To be able to make people your slaves, and also to sell them.
- Have your own caravan.
- Smart companion AI.
- NO SPIDERS.
- More gore(that you cam explode someone's arm and they'll remain alive).
- Coop(splitscreen :D).
- A good story.

That's all i want.

New Vegas was the most meta game ever. One of the big central themes of the story is luck - hell the Courier's own emblem on his shirt after Lonesome Road is an Ace of Spades with the number 21 over it (that is, on his new gift duster) if he *spoiler alert, but you really should know this by know* decides to go Wild Card and take Vegas. And just what is it that decides whether you get to play the game just fine, or if it's an unplayable amalgamation of CTDs and other buggery?
Luck.
Genius.
(just kidding, i know that wasn't anyone's intention)

And Fallout 4 will probably be like all the other recent Bethesda games. Fun to play, good moddability, lame story and boring non-character NPCs. Wish Obsidian was at it. And that Chris Avellone would bring back Ravel Puzzlewell in some way (like with Kreia, for example)
Obsidian also has Tim Cain, one of the minds behind the original Fallouts, on their staff now. Soooo much potential, I'd hate to see the next Fallout game go to anyone but them.

I think they could start a trailer with a TV in a destroyed house, showing Robert Oppenheimer's speech about the bombs that were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which will zoom out to see USSR troops or Chinese troops walking past with tanks and their countries' flag. With explosions and whatnot in the background. Or maybe a battlefield with the Brotherhood of Steel fighting. Or they could be running away as a nuke drops on the country.

Then the screen would flash to white and becomes very quite. The picture then fades back in to where the bomb fell (where the TV was) and show how destroyed the place is. The camera shows a close-up of someone's feet while running, and then a group of people's feet (maybe mutated?) running after the character. Maybe some gunfire and flashes. The character runs into an abandoned train station. Then lights a match so you only see the character's face as he/she is sweating and panting. You hear the people that were chasing the character say "We've lost him/her." As they walk away. It's very quite, you can only hear the breathing of the character. Then a strange sound. He/She turns around to see the station is full of ghouls staring at the character. Then the match burns out and it goes very dark. THE END!!!

I want obsidian to do fallout 4 not Bethesda :(. I like Bethesda but fo3 sucked I LOVE FO:NV i have probably played400 hours (was on ps3 mostly so can't keep track but at least double of Skyrim which is 200). I had a couple of crashes sure but it was manageable and keep in mind I was on the ps3 which is the most buggy console supposedly. I like story telling in games and fo:nv had great story fo3..... well..... the Enclave was cool .... I guess.....

OT: I just have to shake my head when people pan the story in FO3... especially when they then sing the praises of NV's. It's just sad to me, and I think that it's not actually that person's own opinion but rather just something they say because apparently it's cool to rag on FO3.

And I would like a Fallout 4... in Texas.
