It perplexes me how people complain about achievements being given for things that are actual achievements for them. Well, it amuses me that people care that much about getting all achievement points anyway.

Why does Obsidian always get handed the sequels these days? They did Knights of the the Old Republic II and Neverwinter Nights 2, both of which were ok games, but not spectacular... Am I the only one here who's not holding their breath?

Well, in this case they are doing the sequel to something that they created in the first place, as many people at Obsidian worked on Fallout 1 and 2.

gee as long as they let you create a auto lock pick tool i'm really looking forward to fallout nv...
I never really though lock picking was that big of a problem in fallout, I think it was far easier than the completely annoying system in Oblivion.
You found lock picking in Oblivion hard, huh? Odd, I found it ridiculously easy. No door could keep me out that didn't require a key.

Thank fuck!

They listened! They listened to my incessant e-mails complaining to them and asking them to make it harder than the cakewalk FO3 was!

Or perhaps they didn't, I don't know. Anyway, they seem to have taken the best parts of the FWE mod and turned it into something that won't crash my computer when I load it in the wrong order!

Well, that's the difficulty fixed, now if they've made the gore less stupid and more like the originals, then I'm in heaven.
Who's the developer? If it's Bethesda it will still crash, alot.

Achievements are meant to be for doing something that not everyone would do, or something insanely cool, or something hard. If every time a game was announced with a harder setting and achievements for that harder setting never happened I would barely play that setting unless I wanted to annoy myself.
In Fallout 3 achievements are pretty much watered down, given even for stuff like character creation in the tutorial. It's good to see them being given for something that can be an actual achievement, for a change.

The developer is Obsidian.

Maybe I just didn't get the tumbler system, but I would break at least 1 or 2 picks everytime on anything that wasn't easy. But I meant it more of the fallout system was faster, shift pick turn screwdriver for torque, you win.

Sure, I know that many people on the Obsidian team worked on Fallout 1 & 2, but let's be honest, that was a long time ago, and Fallout 2 really had some serious issues at least until it was patched...

I'm just looking at their recent track record (the two other games I mentioned) and thinking "This may not turn out as great as it sounds..." Don't get me wrong, I want Fallout: New Vegas to be awesome, but Obsidian doesn't exactly inspire my confidence any longer...

Great, now how am I gonna make FNV Reborn? Still, I'm betting the "hardcore" mode won't be as hardcore as my mod, so I'm sure I'll have something to do.

Nope, Obsidian entertainment are the ones making it.

I hear they're quite reliable.
Thank god. Does Bethesda playtest anything they make, or do they just skip the beta stage like I suspect?

As long as no achievements are linked to it, I'm cool.

SERIOUSLY! DON'T LINK HARDCORE TO ANY ACHIEVEMENTS!
Are you an "Achievement whore"?

Considering that Fallout 3's hardest difficulty was not hard when you could carry around enough guns and ammo to take on the Chinese army, I welcome this.

I told one of the devs about your post, now it's on! :)

I'm going to enjoy this. I play Fallout 3 on Very Hard and I still find it quite easy (But enjoyable) so this Hardcore mode will be a welcome challenge.

I appreciate that Fallout 3 got way too easy when you could carry around 50 stimpaks, thousands of rounds of ammo and wear superpower armour, but there is a comfortable middle ground between "god-like" and dying of thirst halfway through a firefight. Thank god it's optional.
