No! Don't say that! How fucking amazing would going back to an original style Fallout game be?

GO ON INTERPLAY!
But it won't be that good. These are the people that almost killed fallout to begin with Bethesda saved the franchise. Just leave fallout alone interplay. Just leave it alone.
Yes, Bethesda totally saved it by changing the game entirely, didn't they?

I honestly preferred all of Interplay's Fallout games to Bethesda's 2.

Bravo interplay. You attempted to fight against the people who gave your MMO a second chance, and your now paying the price. Hell, you already rode Fallout into the dirt before, Bethesda saved it, and your selfishness has killed you. You could have named it wasteland, y'know, the game before fallout but no.

I have no sympathy. Interplay took on a company who had the staying power, and now they've paid the price. I don't even care about the MMO, nothing was known, it was all up in the air. Just like van bearun or whatever New Vegas was meant to be.The only people I feel Sorry to are all the people who have invested their lives at Interplay. Just another case of 3D realms.
This. I mean, It seems like there could have been so many ways to resolve this without taking a much more successful and powerful company to court. Still, I would love it Bethesda could take over the MMO project and make one with all of their financial backing behind them. It'd be a hell of a game to play :)

I have mixed feelings about this.

Interplay is likely drained by Bethesda's lawsuits, which was a really dick move on Bethesda's part. And Interplay has a much, much better grasp on what 'Fallout' is than Bethesda, who pander to children who just want to see things explode. On the other hand, with such a financial crunch, it's unlikely Interplay could actually do the franchise justice, so I'm just depressed. It's unlikely we'll ever see a good Fallout MMO.
They have a better grasp? Have you seen BoS? Tactics? They created a beautiful lore then ran it into the ground. Bethesda saved it and interplay wants it back. Too bad.

If Interplay leaves us a little peace of all true games leave with it.

Have you played BoS? Tactics? they both are considered non cannon because the stories were so god awful. After fallout 2 interplay changed. And not for the better. Bethesda changed the gameplay somewhat for the better, now things can be seen up close and personal instead of from 30 feet above.

Bethesda didn't 'save' the franchise, they merely won the bidding on it. They weren't the only company that wanted the series, Bioware was also bidding on it.

Sadly, Bioware has gone downhill, so maybe it is best that Bethesda got it. Though I wish they would hire decent writers.

Edit: No, I haven't played Tactics, but I've heard it's awful.

OT: It's pretty annoying how much it costs just to get these things off the ground even without WoW eating the Market.
We need something even better for such a dire situation... we need... sound!

This. As poorly handled were the elements of the series in Fallout 3 (still really liked it), Bethesda were the ones who did bring Fallout back. Without Bethesda buying them, they would still be stuck with Interplay, who are not the same Interplay they were when they made the originals (I mean, they gave the go ahead to Brotherhood of Steel (not Tactics, the other one). What kind of person would do that?)

Well, from a gamer-centric perspective if Bethesda wants the rights, it seems likely that they plan to launch an MMO, so chances are we'll see one, it just comes down to whose ideas it's based around.

I'm hoping Interplay manages to solve it's problems and rise from the ashes of near destruction personally, but things do look pretty bleak.

Yes But bioware didn't get it. We have no idea how anyone else would have handled it they could of even destroyed the lore! Beth got it and did well with it. They SAVED it.

Interplay is still around? Someone pull the plug on them already. This is just getting sad.

Jesus, weren't they working on this back in 2001?

And development... Development never changes...

Ah well, I was not expecting it would be a good game anyway. To bad though.

BOS yes.But Tactics had both humor and a decent story. It just implied the holocaust happened in the 90s going away from the canon. It wasn't at all terrible(rather excellent actually) and it's what drew me to the rest of the franchise.

I beg to differ. We can't go back to that as much as we'd like to...All Interplay can muster is an MMO that they really don't have the funds for...

Unless...Wait continue with a Fallout Tactics franchise!YEAH and just change the name so you don't get sued again. That would make an awesome tactical squad based rpg game with real time and turn based mechanics...
If they mustered the money, I'd love to go back to that style of game, even if it wasn't an MMO (Actually, especially if it wasn't an MMO). I think the new-gen Fallouts have failed in comparison to Fallout, Fallout 2, and as much as I hate to say it, Tactics.

Yes, I honestly think Tactics was better than 3/New Vegas. No, this isn't me just hating it because it's popular or because it's different, I did like New Vegas because it had an element of the humour that the old games have, disliked FO3 immensely because of its dullness and horrendous gameplay. I really think the old-style ones were much more fun because of the way you actually had to think out everything.
They don't have a choice since Bethesda holds the franchise - Interplay just has the MMO.Plus you're gunna want a merger of Obsidian and Troika games with some serious beta testers on the side. Now that could reboot an incredible Fallout franchise.

PS:I thought tactics was amazing albeit non canon.

I'll concede for tactics but BoS was one of the last ones interplay made- it was obvious they were milking the franchise- and poorly at that. They dropped van buren after all. Wtf? Van buren looked amazing!

Yeah I constantly read the storylines and characters for Van Burren at The Vault wiki and a little tear trickles to the side - of the awesomeness that never came to be.
