Without even reading the 10-K filing, this is just depressing to think about in terms of these guys trying to hold a company together as it threatens to topple at a moment's notice. Interplay was once a colossal developer/publisher with some of the greatest titles ever to their credit... and for all the inept management, I still feel bad for them. They, along with the original Acclaim Entertainment, didn't always do what was best for business. At least for a little bit, they did do right by the consumers before it all turned to shit. They're part of a select few of dying or defunct developers/publishers from the heyday that released classic games I still favor to this day.
Of course, it doesn't help when the people that made the company great are long gone.
On the topic of Fallout Tactics, I really liked that game A LOT. Having R. Lee Ermey barking out orders at me before every mission made my day. The party-based combat was so streamlined at this point, I would have loved to see it in Fallout 1 and 2.
Personally, Fallout 3 is okay... but it's not a Fallout game to me. I hate to say it, but I'm one of the stubborn Fallout 1 & 2 elitists when it comes to the gameplay. Fallout 3 was Oblivion with guns... that's pretty much it. I didn't even bother with New Vegas, especially not if Obsidian had their hands on it. They seem to take one step forward and two steps back on every project that comes their way from other companies (KOTOR2 and NWN2 from Bioware). They make it look nicer and break everything else in the process.
I wish the "Van Buren" Fallout 3 would re-surface and be completed... wishful thinking but I can dream...
