SINCE WHEN WAS THE WII FOR KIDS ONLY YOU PRICKS!??!!
Since always, didn't you get the memo?
And Welkin don't need a damn lightsaber.
a) the wii is a games console, just like the PS3. You saying the PS3 is for kids?
b) you don't check the holiday council thread much do you?

"hopes that Nintendo does not lose sight of its initial audience"

err, i am speechless
has everyone already forgotten the gamecube and how nintendo practically anally raped everyone who supported them during that era with the wii's focus?

the initial audience should be the people who look forward to the next mario and zelda among other original nintendo franchises with a lot of time put into them
it shouldn't be people waiting for the next game which has noel edmond's face on the box

it's for reasons like this why i'm buying a 360 later in the year
enough is enough
but ill keep my wii for a while, maybe the conduit will be good afterall

Umm...Overkill? Manhunt? Resident Evil 4?

Wii has had it's far share of 18 games.
SSBB? Smashing someone in the face with a baseball bat doesn't seem very kid friendly, even if it is Pikachu.
But that's harmless slapstick. Even when you run them over with Falcon's ride.
Well there isn't much blood in CoD4, so is that considered slap stick because it isn't as violent as most FPSes? Now if every kill was like the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan than I'd understand, but the most blood you see is slightly patted on the wall behind someone if they even die near one.
Now if every kill was like the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan than maybe people would stop glorifying conflicts that lead to the deaths of millions.
I'm waiting for the war shooter that is as unapolegetically violent and gory as actual battles are. And the resounding cries of indignation as soccer moms don't want their children exposed to the unpleasant truth that people die when they are killed, and sometimes end up in small chunks that fit neatly on soup spoons.

I love the sight of a wall that looks like its been held under a meat grinder its just my kind of art. I like to believe that with most gory games I'm a Leonardo Da-Vinche..... Now excuse me wilst I go and start up my chainsaw on dead rising and start up [my gore fest music] Disturbed. TAKE THAT YOU BLOOD ENCRUSTED ZOMBIE LETS SEE HOW YOU DEAL WITH A SHOWER HEAD SPEWING BLOOD OUT OF YOUR SKULL!

Nintendo would never do that!
The hilarious thing? A game comes out that genuinely makes hardcore gamers interested and the media says that Nintendo is screwing the casual gamers.
It always bothered me that Hardcore gamers feel gypped when they talk about the Wii. They seem to think Nintendo changed when it is the customers who changed instead. Nintendo have always been making Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, and other similar games. Nothing changed on Nintendo's part and yet some idiots feel "betrayed" by Nintendo.

I laugh at them really.

Also if there was a World War 2 game where all the guns were replaced with NERF guns and blood was replaced with confetti, then the War Veterans would probably protest. There are always some douchebags out there to protest whatever direction video games go.

Yea, I want a war game like Star Wars: Battlefront, where each person you use is an expendable soldier. No bullet magnets or grand heroics, the game will succeed without your input if need be.

you laugh because nintendo HAS abandoned their gamers?
take twilight princess, originally meant to be a core cube game, finished by the end of 2005

however nintendo decided that cube was failing so waited another year to release it just so it would be released on the wii at the same time so that it feels like a wii game rather than a ported cube game
in some respects, fair enough
then, in that year they casualise it as much as possible; ie. it's by far the easiest 3d zelda to finish 100%
i got all the heart pieces no effort, i dont even have 17 on windwaker

the point im making is that, while nitendo may still make their flagship series, they are dumbing them down
another example, metroid prime 3, easiest of the lot by so far
ssbb, everything slowed down dramatically from ssbm

last year, the only "good" game released by nintendo was ssbb
their other recent releases include wii fit and wii music
this year, we have NOTHING confirmed for release yet aside from gamecube games with wii controls slapped on, and if we're lucky, wii sports resort which is barely a real game

so, do you still feel nintendo haven't abandoned anyone yet?

No not really. Games get easier, they get harder. Ocarina of Time was quite a bit harder then Majora's Mask.

Mario Galaxy was actually really fun, and Metroid 3 had a very solid control scheme, the auto-aim is what made it somewhat easier. I haven't played SSBB so I couldn't comment on it.

The only reason Metroid Prime 3 was the easiest of the bunch is because the Wii is a much better console than the GC for shooters. FPS's are terrible with standard controllers.

"MadWorld is another reminder that parents need to make sure they watch what their kids watch and play what their kids play."

Um, exactly?
Is this guy suggesting that parents were just tardwalking through their children's upbringing until now?

I find it both annoying and scary that these people are trying to tell Nintendo what they can and can't do with their system as it is now "family friendly". Nintendo can do whatever they think will make the Wii a success, and here are these people telling Nintendo "no no, your console is supposed to be family friendly! You shouldn't tarnish that image! LISTEN TO US!" That is very annoying and scary as it shows that Nintendo is somehow restricted to only family "friendly games" and that anything else is "off limits".
But gamers complaining that the "hardcore" had been left behind by Nintendo after E3 '08 and that they should do what the "hardcore" think is best, yeah, that's perfectly fine.

Those are just stpuid [sic] gamers. This is Nintendo's, presumably, target audience telling them that they shouldn't do anything on their "family friendly" console. Last time this happened, I believe some British guy in the government was telling Nintendo that MadWorld would ruin their image.

The fucking government!

Granted, yes, you could switch out these people fore "hardcore" gamers who are complaining about Nintendo's direction, but this is them telling Nintendo that they'll ruin their image. Gamers aren't complaining about their image, they're complaining that they're not getting something to chew on.

It's crazy to put it in laments terms for no reason.

EDIT: Sweet! This time you quoted me, it said something other than "

I meant more the gamers whinging themselves inside out after Nintendo didn't bow to their whims and go "hey look, a bunch of generic shooters for you all!" or whatever it is the alleged hardcore audience likes at E3.

You are right though it is different because this is about image, but at the same time gamers were in a way claiming Nintendo was going back on their image that they believed they had (which to be honest, I don't think Nintendo ever did).

SCREW THEM. I can't believe people are peeved because someone releases a violent game for a console. If you don't want your kids playing Madworld, don't buy it for them. It's quite obvious its a violent game from the cover. And when did violence make people bad. Personally, I play GTA 4 for the PC and its an outlet for anger and frustration. I do things in there that I cannot do in the real world

It seems like the organization is realizing parents don't care what the rating of a game is before they give it to their children, and are trying to cover it up.

"have to watch what their kids play" Well, you know, that kind of is THEIR JOB! Once you become a parent, that is your career, I don't care if you are a man or woman, once you have a kid, your life is about them. No more is your job advancement a way to increase your ego, it is a way to better your child's oppurtunities. No more are your weekends just a day off, it is time to spend bonding with and teaching your child. No longer can you be an immature jerkoff. You must be a parent.
Very well put
