So... gamers are crying for more blood; claiming that less violence was some sort of violation against them?

Yeah... that's gonna help the "legitimate medium" argument a ton.

To be fair, watching the gameplay videos, the blood was surprisingly refreshing in a game that looks so childish.

But of all the things to remove to get a lower rating...the BLOOD was the affected area? Jeez.

Here we go...

So basically everywhere across the west, SOMEONE has a problem with Tera.

Yes, I find the anger about the blood slider outrageous, but I wish everyone would just be quiet about the "Elin look like sexualized children" thing. if they do to you, they do. guess what? Top three of most things talked about on any of the newbie zone US beta servers was that ad nauseum.
please save your breath. WE KNOW....

You know where I get annoyed? the Elin clothing change for the US hardly did anything. people would rage (and have!) at that just like they'd rage at the prior, in my opinion, better designed models. the US design model anti-midriff work messes with a fair number of models that had ornate stuff around the midriff, and they all got different colors of boy shorts in exchange. I've hear of fan edits that look less revealing, and actually seemed to have more effort, if you'd ask me. Mind you that wouldn't change the fact that the animations are still there.

NOTHING would make the NA people happy involving Elin. Lost. CAUSE. It makes me not want to use my open beta key, because i was already running Tera "barely" on a toaster.

..Maybe its because I played as a Tarutaru(FF10) and immediately go to the smaller races in most MMO's first is why I'm not AS bothered by it. No matter how good or bad Tera will actually be in the west, the censorship (or lack thereof) is always the first thing I hear.
The main thing here, is that enough Americans are violent, sexually repressed religious fanatics that we're about two steps away from being Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, censoring blood? Who cares? It's blood. I don't actually need it in my fantasy game. (Apparently the same Americans who are deluded that the Elin are supposed to represent little girl also want to see them killed in the most violent manner possible. Funny that.)

sadly, your probably right about point 1. the funny thing about repression is how deep down it goes.

Agreed. bloods blood. I don't literally need to spill blood to feel like im spilling blood, so I don't need animations of blood either, although i can also get why some people would like it.

ooh, speaking of Elins and being killed, I saw enough people wanting to start guilds to exclude those who happen to play as Elin. I've seen hate the class not the player, now were back to hating the race of the character, not the player. when it gets to the point you'll diss a player for picking one set of polygons in your game over another, something may be wrong with the situation at hand.

..unless i slept through a time warp, and now polygons are people. If thats the case, I want my Space Sphere /w Turret.

Anndd Frogster is already showing their incompetence as the post put it. I refuse to play EU servers anyway, since they're generally crap, pre-ordered the US version.

Honestly I just don't like them and the little animals because they don't suit the tone of the game, it would be like Heman appearing in an episode of Lost.. Even if it's justified and well written in (which they are), it doesn't fit right because it's Heman.

In that dumb vampire movie that came out a while back, in the setting under subtitles you could adjust the level of blood you would see on screen.

or is that too advanced for frogster?

If the European mainstream has such an aversion to blood, it's no wonder your women don't save.

Okay show of hands: Who else thought this would be related to the dress-code?
Seconded. Although, Europe is more sane than the US. If you're gonna get up in arms about a game containing mature content, why the fuck would you go after nudity and sex when the game contains tons of violence? See: GTA or Mass Effect "scandals".
True on the Mass effect part though GTA has gotten more heat for its violence than its sexual content in the past over in the US.
Remember hot coffee? The mod not even released by the developers.

Oh I'm well aware of the hot coffee fiasco, I'm just saying that in the past I've seen more controversy raised over the game's violent content rather than it's sexual content over in the US.

If pixilated blood is that important to make or break a game for you, you should probably stick to Mortal Kombat.

Thats just Germany. I dont know why the country with the biggest record of bloodshed in European history got this adversion to blood in digital media from, but its there.
We all like to pick on certain sections of history but European countries have their hands covered by a gigantic crust of dried blood.

Let's not forget that we have killed Jews for centuries and even the countries that didn't kill them, kicked them out and left them to die. Millions died at the hands of the USSR but we all like to blamer Germans.

Hint: Just because of WWII it doesn't mean that they are the European country with the highest K/D.

The problem was that the game was censored. If it didn't have blood in the first place there would have been no problem.

Gee, Escapist. Stop taking everything to the extremes...

Gamers complaining about stupid things like changing design decisions and thinking they are entitles to direct what the company making the game does? Nothing new. Honestly I just hope that gamers never find original design documents on their favorite games or their heads might explode at the prospect that games change over time and features are cut and added to meek changing standards and markets. Wait no, go look up the original design doc for BioShock, When your head explodes you won't be able to complain anymore.

Huh. We usually hear it the other way around, here in the States. We usually take the blood and hide the body. Maybe we'll eventually merge the two ideas successfully, and we'll get both options in our games.

Or, alternatively, the other side wins, and we get neither. :/ Not fond of that option at all.

Now THAT I can understand as why you wouldn't like them. Since I didn't follow the game until it got to the west as it is, I can't say for sure if they don't fit or not, though.

but you sure have a more justified reason to dislike them then the "pedo!" people, in my opinion.

It is indeed a lot more comical playing as an Elin or Popori Berserker then the other races, id bet- considering that with the Elin overhand strike, they are literally putting EVERYTHING into that swing. i can at least say the melee combat felt good, and the axe impacts where quite nice. wish more MMO's made the melee feel like that.

The best part is that if they dont change it they MIGHT cancel their pre-orders or just buy the NA version....yup you are sure going to show them by still buying their product

deleted that pic for quote.. what the hell that's legal in america??
That picture I posted is from a performance of 7 and 8 year old girls at the World of Dance event which was held in Pomona, California.
I was searching for good example via google and yea that was on the first page...

Again I'm not defending the Elin outfits (like I said I criticize that no female armour in that game is anything like an armour) but I'm more in favour of the European focus on violence instead of sexual themes when it comes to video game age ratings.

I'm all for getting pissed off about games censoring blood just because THINK OF THE CHILDREN, but... seriously? Not just a freakin' petition, but a petition with a tagline like that? Just... wow. I suddenly find myself not very hungry.
