Lydia's death in Skyrim. For most people, she dies long before you reach this point, but if she hangs around long enough, it's inevitable. Here:

And because the caption is "well done", it is mandatory that a fire death get in here. May as well be from The Thing(the good one).

Last, but not least, the music during Gandalf's "death" was incredible. Now to find who's cutting onions in my house.

Gotta go with Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker in Episode 6: Return of the Jedi. Amazing death scene, from picking up the Emperor and pitching him over the side to seeing his son with his own eyes for the first time.

I really like the off-screen deaths that occur in the Fallout universe, that you find out about in pieces via the notes left scattered around. Specifically "the Survivalist" in FO:NV Honest Hearts DLC.
Holy shit that was depressing and then he ends his life by freezing to death on the top of some rock. I was like ";A; WHYYYYYYY OBSIDIAN WHYYYY?!"

Pretty good for a character I never see to tug on my heartstrings, I think.

Also all the deaths in the Mass Effect series.

Well, which death scene I think is the best is highly variable and, if you asked me again in another week, I might give you a different answer. For now, however, I'm going with the battle between Fingolfin and Morgoth in the Silmarillion.

Comics: Superman, because I hate Supes, and seeing him be slowly beaten to death by Doomsday was very pleasant
Videogames: Still gotta go with Marston. No other game has made me react the same. I literally said aloud "I don't deserve this" and couldn't even bring myself to shoot back
Movies: Neo. Fuck you all, that was the perfect ending to that series. Except for the fucking Architect/Oracle sum-up at the end. But The Wicker Man is a close second. "Oh Jesus! Oh Jesus Christ!"
Books: I can't remember the name of it, but I read this amazing short story that ended with the death of the main character, as a result of his own altruistic actions. Fantastic
TV: #2's death in The Prisoner
Off topic, but why would you hate superman?

It's a toss up between these four:
These four endings made me shed many manly tears.
And it's these four that make me proud to be a gamer.

From the novel Feed, by Mira Grant.

It's written in the first person from the POV of the protagonist, who in the last chapters gets infected by the virus that turns people into zombies. Reading this character writing the horror that she has seconds left to live - I was crying.

We all have our favorite death scenes, but for me, it has to be the death of Dinobot in Beast Wars, wow, that really hit me hard as a kid, I never even really liked him all that much but holy shit, did that ever make me weep. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DQblCuUZWw

So what's everyone elses?
I don't care that you ninja'd me that will always be my favorite death. Lots of deaths in media make me sad but this was the first that made me cry real tears. The second was Prowl in Transformers Animated.

You know, I was trying to think of a good one, and came up with a couple of decent enough nominees (examples included FullMetal Alchemist[footnote]
Maes Hughes. The circumstances behind his death nonwithsanding, the greatest accomplishment of this is that the death itself made a point of just how much he loved his family and the aftermath was truly heartwrenching in showing how much he too was loved.
[/footnote] the "Monster" anime[footnote]
Richard Brawn, [formerly] alcoholic Private Investigator. He's only the focus for about 4 episodes but you connect with the guy's desire to see his estranged daughter again and can see how much the addiction is still eating at him despite his refusal to give in, eventually culminating in his daughter saying she wants to see him again. And then...Johan comes in and breaks him with a few choice words and a well placed line. In addition to being a sucker punch, this beautifully demonstrated just how dangerous and malevolent Johan actually was.
[/footnote], and I Am Legend[footnote]
Sam. The only companion the protagonist has had in recent years and he is forced to turn his comforting hug to a deadly choke in the span of seconds. And you can see just how much that kills him.
[/footnote], among others), but honestly, I think I just found a scene that beats anything I might have come up with on my own. Have you perhaps heard of a movie called "The Champ"?

I just found that while trying to find moments from media I've actually seen, but it still managed to do a number on me. To me, that's a good scene. ....Dang, now I need something to lighten the mood.

Ever heard of American Mcgee's "Scrapland"? It was good fun.

In it, everyone's a robot, and everyone has their "soul" downloaded to the central mainframe, so if they can spare the money, death is a mild inconvenience instead of... well, death.

Until someone starts removing "souls" from the mainframe.

Then the deaths get way, WAAAAAAY darker.

-a robot is cooked to death in boiling oil as he screams for mercy.

-a robot is caught by the murderer while doing bench presses. He gets his arms sheared off as he screams and cries in agony, and then gets his head smashed off by his own arms.

-a robot is picked up and tossed into a recycler, slowly shredded and he howls in agony. The scene ends with his sheared-off head staring at the camera in a death mask.

This is a game my parents bought me when I was twelve.
HOLY SHIT SOMEONE ELSE PLAYED SCRAPLAND!!!

As for my favourite death, Jenny Romano from the Darkness. Still the most affecting scene I've seen in any game. Still my favourite game ever.

'Okay hero. Set me free.'

It's literally the last ten seconds

The will to survive is just brilliant

And now some hilarious ones

There is no way this wasn't intentionally funny
