Kingdom Hearts, if it counts. Y'know, being a JRPG an' all.

If not, I guess Fallout 3. I get bored with it quite frequently, but I have it on PS3 meaning no mods, and I can't be bothered to get the DLC's. So I can't complain.
The countless bugs and glitches keep it fun though. Flying Deathclaws for the win!

All Flesh Must Be Eaten, gotta love the Pen and Paper RPG. If you've never heard of this one look it up. It's about zombies and it's awesome.

It's also interesting to note that it came out originally in 1999, before the modern zombie craze started.

The Call of Cthulhu RPG is good too.

I'm a big pen and Paper Rpg guy, although I do love the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series.
Pity it took 3 pages for someone to mention a real role playing game. My hat to you. The Cthulhu pen and paper is pretty brutal.

I'm going to go with Pen and paper Shadowrun myself.

But, since I feel the thread intends games I'll also offer this...

Shadowrun on the genesis was amazing. Vampire Bloodlines is stupid good. Fallout 3 is...pretty good I guess if you're into that sort of thing though the first 2 are better by miles.KoToR is and will probably always be amazing. Morrowind is better than Oblivion. Xenogears was amazing for it's time, though I don't think it stood the test of time. You could write a thesis on what made Planescape Torment so amazing. Despite what I consider the worst rpg engine of all time I guess the BG games are good. FF6 crushes all other FF's. 7? Ha. The Etrian Oddysey games for the DS are some of the most brutal rpgs I've played since nethack.

Nethack.

Fuck, did I forget anything?
P&P Cthullu is the best if you have a really good dm. If you like anime a good P+P is Big eyes small mouth.

Games wise, there are tons. Final Fantasy series is good but not my favourite - Star Ocean 3, Grandia 2. Lost Oddeysey!!!!!
Big Eyes Small Mouth is actually a super slick character creation engine. The group of people I play with don't really like anime but the reasons why don't really come across on the tabletop.

It really is a great system.

But yea, if you've got a group that can handle Cthulhu, it's the way to go.

An RPG and a JRPG is different things.
Yes, in the beginning JRPG was a subgenre, but it has developed into it's own genre.
Also, WRPGs is more often referred to as 'RPGs', therefor making them different things.
And on the note of pre-design, I have never played an JRPG that lets you customize your appreance.

All that aside, an genre-definintion isn't about a checklist of what it has and doesn't have, it's the feeling of the game (In my opinion that is).
I.e, to me... lets say 'Enter the Matrix' is a Action Adventure, even though it was marketed as 'Action'.
I've never played a platform/adventure/etc. game that had let me customize the character. Still not getting why you can't use that to categorize a game as a JRPG?

And since when has JRPG and RPG been different genres? What kind of logic is at work here? Besides that WRPG is just another sub-genre and by no means the real definition of RPG, it would not exclude JRPG as a sub-genre even if it was.
And regardless of even that, the characteristics of JRPGs would still include leveling, stat developping, skill and ability system. Added with "typically turnbased, including a rich storyline and playable party of characters instead of just a single player character". The definition of JRPG would probably only further distance Zelda from the genre in all else but country of origin.

And while overall feel is a good point, the game still needs to fill some basic definitions. Not that Zelda has the feel of a JRPG in the first place... Only the feel of a fantasy game, which I think you are badly mixing up with JRPG.
