Here's a list in no particular order:

Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII
Chrono Trigger
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2
Blue Dragon
Mass Effect
Dragon Age: Origins
KotOR

I know not everyone liked Blue Dragon, but it had a certain charm to it that appealed to me for some reason. You may also notice that most of these are JRPGs. I mostly play RPGs for a good story, which is something many JRPGs tend to excel at. In my opinion, some of the best Western RPGs are made by BioWare, as you can see with Mass Effect, DA: O and KotOR making the list. Most Western RPG's just don't appeal to me that much. I lost interest with Oblivion after the first hour. I don't mind turn-based combat as long as the game as a whole isn't too boring or generic. This is why I didn't like Lost Odyssey. The story just didn't appeal to me. The only thing even remotely interesting about it was that the main character is an immortal. However, the fact that he has amnesia made the story far too cliche and the whole "1000 years of memories" thing was a piece of dead weight because you had to read the memories like a book. The first one was so long I decided to stop reading the memories after that. I'm not saying Lost Odyssey is a bad game. I'm just saying it didn't appeal to me.

So, yeah, that pretty much describes my taste in RPGs in a nutshell.
I understand your feelings toward LO, it was very generic play and the plot was thin. I don't know how far you played into it, but you soon realise this one's more about the characters than the plot. Normally I would have found the amnesia plot device cliche, but in this case it worked, since we were dealing with four people with memory loss and it established early on who stole those memories. The short stories aren't central to the plot, so you could skip over those. The ones pertainting to the plot are two Seth experiences.
That explains why I didn't like it. I didn't play that far into it. I rented the game and lost interest in it a couple of days before I had to return it. I still LOVE the Unskippable episode with Lost Odyssey. "You cannot defeat us with our silly hats!" Comedy gold!
Yeah, they did a great job with that :D Instead of playing Lost Odyssey, you could always watch some vids on youtube. The actual game is full of comedy.

Oh, and I also liked Blue Dragon. I thought I'd hate it, given it looked so childish, but the plot turned out to be quite dark, and battle-wise, it was fun developing the shadows.
I thought Blue Dragon looked childish at first too. Then I found out that it was made by the creator of Final Fantasy, and I got interested. I've also always liked Akira Toriyama's art style. When I saw that Game Informer gave it an 8.75 out of 10, I was like, "Okay, I need to check this out." Then I played it and was pleasantly surprised. It was different from what I was expecting, particularly in terms of the story and the universe. I liked the setting of a fantasy world with Sci-Fi elements, as well as the story not being too generic, and the fact that the villain can not only use magic, but also has an army of robots. I've always liked the idea of fantasy worlds with the whole "magic vs. technology" theme. I know they had this in Lost Odyssey, but I liked the Blue Dragon universe better because I thought it had more personality.

As a side note, Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey were both made by Mistwalker Studio. The other game they made, Eternal Sonata, is one I'm glad I haven't played. This is after I watched the opening cut-scene on Unskippable. If Graham and Paul weren't making funny comments, that cut-scene probably would have made me shoot myself in the head! Now I want to stay as far away from Eternal Sonata as I possibly can!

Mistwalker didn't make Eternal Sonata, it was tri-Crescendo. tri-Crescendo did co-do Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow, though. I completed ES just before beginning LO, so I disliked LO to begin with. ES is just so bright and purdy, it was a shock to the system to go to the harsh world of LO. ES is incredibly preachy, but excellent gameplay wise. I'm sure you've read about the unique battle mechanic, so I'll varify that yes, it is fun to have magics you use in shadow and light.

Many members of Mistwalker (technically feelplus) originate from Nautilus/Sacnoth, the makers of Shadow Hearts, which was my major reason for getting LO. I wasn't disappointed. I love offbeat humour and characters.

I got Blue Dragon with my 360, but put it off for a very long time. I finally took the dive when I didn't have any other new RPGs at my disposal. The exact happened just two weeks ago when I finally played Enchanted Arms.

Since I can't really pick a definate favorite, and not name all the RPG's I love, I'll compile a short list of the best.

1. Final Fantasy IX.
For me this is the pinnacle of the FF series, the best one they ever made.
2. Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.
My first encounter with a FP view RPG, and an open world.
3. Fallout 3.
Exploding body parts, awesome atmosphere and epic story.
4. Pokemon (red/blue and gold/silver).
JRPG on Game Boy at it's very best.

Ultima VII Part 2: The Serpent Isle. It's too bad it got rushed and that the whole second half of the game was compromised, as well as the layout of Fawn and Moonshade (they were both supposed to have additional z-levels and walkways), etc. I've been thinking about remaking it, closer to the original developer intentions, perhaps in Morrowind.

Speaking of Morrowind, yeah, close second favorite. All things considered, much better done than Oblivion, and much more in keeping with the first two Elder Scrolls games. Oblivion kind of raped TES lore to construct its plot.

Interesting. I thought Mistwalker made Eternal Sonata. I actually know nothing about that game except that it's about a real-life composer on his deathbed, and his adventures in a dream world as he's dying. Honestly, though, the opening cut-scene is cringe-worthy in my opinion, and I think it deserved the Unskippable treatment.

I mean, find a gamer who doesn't like Fallout 3, and who has played it until level 30. Maybe one in a million?
I was EXTREMELY dissapointed with Fallout 3 and gave up playing after about three hours (spread over a week)

My favourite game, let alone RPG, has to be KotOR. It just wins hands down. I also enjoyed Oblivion, Mass Effect, Fable and it's sequel and I had a little go with Baldur's Gate 2, which was quite fun. I will be getting Dragon Age soon, and I hope that it is good as well.

If Borderlands counts, then I choose that. If it doesn't, I choose Pokemon. If that doesn't count, I guess I'll choose Kingdom Hearts. I'm pretty sure one of the first two will count though.

Probably the custom Fudge-based campaign I played in college where we, the party, were the President of the United States and his cabinet as we tried to defuse a Cuban Missile Crisis-style standoff.
