*sigh* This has been done before, but the audiophile in me won't let me walk away. I'll keep it fresh by posting things I haven't recommended before.
Ten Million Slaves - Otis Taylor (proving the banjo can be a rocking instrument; notable for its use throughout Public Enemies)
Father - Sean Costello (slow blues ballad by a man with a one of a kind voice)
All the Same - Scott McKeon (for something bluesy but harder)
Every Man I Fall For - Cold War Kids (maybe not the song everyone would pick by this band, but a great, odd number)
One Red Thread - Blind Pilot (indie rock with a bit of folk for balance)
Do It Again - Nada Surf (the guys who gave us "Popular" are ironically better with their lesser known songs)
Guns of Brixton - Calexico (saddest cover of a Clash song ever)
Over-Ground - Pilot Speed (hey, two bands with the word "Pilot" in their names, go figure)
The Way We Get By - Spoon (awesome, underrated band...like many listed here)
Reason Is Treason - Kasabian (proving prog rock is not dead)
