That first round was really hard for me, i've not actually played a lot of games so I had to go googling stuff!
Also thanks for making the prizes international, yay! :D (Is it wrong that I want the runner-up prize more than I want the main prize? :S)

Done!!! :) I'll be rooting for Bethesda this year. Yup, I'm that excited about Skyrim. (And they deserve the nod anyhow for Morrowind and Oblivion alone)

Fill Out Your March Mayhem: Developers' Showdown Bracket Today

March Mayhem: Developers' Showdown is back, so fill out your bracket for a chance at one of multiple gaming laptops thanks to our sponsor, Alienware!

March Mayhem: Developers' Showdown is an exclusive event on The Escapist where the top 64 game developers go head-to-head in an elimination style tournament to see who comes out on top. Who makes the call on which developers make it to the next round? People like you from around the world! Developers will be relying on your votes to progress through the tournament and take home the March Mayhem title. Last year, the Final Round brought Valve a victory over a very difficult match-up against BioWare. From upsets to blowouts, nobody knows what will happen this year, but we guarantee it will be fun to watch and participate!

This year, Alienware is our sponsor and they are giving out some amazing gaming laptops as prizes! There are multiple ways to enter but you get 25 entries just for filling out your own bracket. Don't worry, we have plenty of information to help you make your decision. To begin filling out your bracket register here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/global/tournaments/mybracket/5] or or [fblogin]Sign In with Facebook[/fblogin], then click the link above.

For all new members of The Escapist, there are current community members standing by in this thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/539.262433-Welcome-to-The-Escapist-Community-Members-are-Standing-by-to-Help-You-Click-Here] to answer any questions you may have or show you what The Escapist has to offer. After all, March Mayhem is fun but only a small part of why current community members call The Escapist their online home.

For all of the rules of March Mayhem, visit the main March Mayhem: Developers' Showdown page by clicking here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/global/tournaments/rules/5]. Good luck!

Some of these choices were really hard but I want to thank you and Alienware for finally making a contest that those of us outside of the US can enter.
You are welcome! We wanted to make sure an international event had international prizes and Alienware was all about it. We are also giving prizes out to the development studios who come in 1st through 4th as well. Those are directly through The Escapist though (free ad campaigns).
How do you pick a winner? Do you just select a name at random or do you pick the ones who have voted the most?

It's completely random BUT the more times you vote and tweet, the more entries you get. You get 25 entries just from filling out the bracket and then 10 more from liking out Facebook page. So, we throw all of those into pool and start picking winners.

I had a problem with filling my bracket out. See, running through all of the contestants, I started thinking that this is user voting. So I started choosing developers that I hate just because I know that most users on this site will be choosing them. Hell, I had Zynga up through the third round I believe, just because I know people will flock from everywhere and vote them through.

I wish there was a better way to do this where I don't have to see excellent developers squashed by sub-par ones just because of the massive influx of fanbase.

Gahh!

Choosing between Bioware and Bethesda!?
Elder Scrolls versus Mass Effect?
It's like asking a parent to say which kid they love the most.

Zynga promised in-game benefits, and flooded the Escapist forums with 2-post facebook members who were never heard from again after voting for Zynga.
This was actually completely false (as many people were lead to believe), which is the same reason we implemented the slander rule this year. If people state anyone is cheating and can't back it up with proof to me in a PM, they are done with March Mayhem.

Funny how quickly people forget that Valve put an advert for last years MM in the Steam launcher bringing in "2-post members who were never heard from again after voting for Valve".

As for promotions, we encourage developers to go all out in grabbing the attention of their communities. This year, even developers can win some big ad packages with The Escapist. The only thing they CANNOT do it offer prizes if they win. As stated above, if anyone sees proof of this, please send me a PM immediately.

Some of these brackets will be hard to pick: I mean "Double Fine" versus "Valve" ? That's will be sad to eliminate one of those already at the first round :(
The unfortunate part is I don't really play Valve games, but you're almost sure EVERYONE will pick it. Valve is just too big with it's digital distribution

Goodness! That's a gutsy bracket right there! I love Notch as much as the next PC gamer, but >I think HeartGold, SoulSilver, 3DS, and a bunch of mascot Wii games are gonna put Nintendo over the top.
>I can't see Blizzard leaving the race anytime before the final four. Cataclysm and Starcraft II are too gigantic to ignore.
>Ubisoft got knocked out by Bethesda in my bracket. While not a true fan of The Elder Scrolls, I've played enough to know that I love their design and execution. While Assassin's Creed is fun and all, I'm still docking Ubisoft major points for the DRM that blew up in their face. Seriously, they couldn't have implemented it more poorly if they had tried.

Ah, it is that time of year again, when everyone raging over the result and insult each other being "fanboy" and declare the result being "unfair". Nice times.

Who won for me?

North Division: Blizzard (WoW, Starcraft) beat Naughty Dog (why didn't they list Crash Bandicoot?)

East Division: Bioware (Mass Effect, DA2) beat Volition (Saints Row 2) this was a very hard decision for me

West Division: Epic Games (Bulletstorm, Unreal) beat Obsidian (New Vegas, KotOR 2)

South Division: Capcom (Dead Rising, Marvel vs Capcom) beat Double Fine (Psychonauts, Brutal Legend)

The ncaa tournament this is modeled after now has 68 teams in their tournament. I think there should be 4 more names to chose from....but if they are using zynga as one of those choices then they obviously had run out of ideas.

I went for gearbox because they are FINALLY bringing back the king.

JUST SAYIN'

Funny how quickly people forget that Valve put an advert for last years MM in the Steam launcher bringing in "2-post members who were never heard from again after voting for Valve".

One ad is fine. No one has a problem with it and it was part of the steam update, meaning you probably wouldn't see it again following that. Zynga did it multiple times, constantly taking it down and replacing it. They didn't go through a single bracket without putting an advertisement up on their forums or on their social networking accounts and even ended up voting for themselves a couple of times. It got so bad that they're own community was getting frustrated and actually VOTED for Valve. Zynga's advertising was in your face and didn't want to go away. It was on a different level from Valve's

I am liking this Alienware thingemy. Althoug isn't this encouraging us to vote for who we think will win as opposed to who we want to like it has always been before?

Regardless, I have voted for who I want to, I don't think it will go the way I voted at all.

See this is hard. I voted the way I think everyone else is going to vote, not who I actually like. somehow Nintendo won.
