So I finally figured out how to change party members. You can't do it in the "party" menu which would make sense. But you have to go into the "combat" menu and then you can change the party members. I'm not entirely sure why there are two menu's to do something when one would have been enough. I mean, even in the same game, you can switch gear and materia in the same menu. It makes no sense.

Grumble over.

Enjoying the game, despite that and Yuffie, but currently playing Dave The Diver as a pallet cleanser, I knew I rushed into the game too quickly after Metaphor.

After months of hiatus, I am back to playing this game. Still in chapter 12, and now doing all the stuff at gold saucer.

Chocobo Race was the one that I cleared out first, and I am glad to have done so. It was a slog to play through all of them. And either my mb/k are broken or there's something going on with the input, because sometimes sharp turns didn't trigger or Cloud would run in a wrong direction. However, it was nice to see Billy get his closure regarding his parents.

And I thought it was really mature and amazing decision for Billy to be a self-made person. He knows he won't make much and there will be hardships, but he doesn't care about any of that, and wants to focus on Chocobos that he loves so much. Not many people can do that. I thought Chocobo Sam was kind of an asshole in the first game, but he has proven to be a pretty cool guy.

After that it was doing every possible minigames before the skywheel date. And this is when I found out how skywheel date works. I really wanted Tifa to show up, but it was Aerith. Nothing against her, but I just think Cloud was meant to be with Tifa.

Which was weird, because I thought I had the highest level of relationship level with Tifa. So then I reloaded the last save, did some minigames all over again, and this time I got Red XIII..... what? Granted he was the last character whom I had an interaction with, but I didn't think the relationship level was that high?

I have heard you can pick your date post-game, but idk, I kinda wanted the first time to be with Tifa (inuendo intended), and now it's just not gonna be the same.

So I decided to do some other side quests, mainly finishing the shadowblood queen questline. I knew that girl was the host! However it's been about 5 attempts, and I still can't beat her. Gonna keep trying, though.

Whatever, just wash your hands.

I got Barrett, no idea how I didn't get Aerith since I thought I did the most with her. But, I also didn't remember the date existing. Either way, it was delightful.

By the time I got to shadowblood queen I was kinda sick of it so I just looked up some tactics since my usual build that dealt with everything else was not cutting it. Turns out I had a few more cards I needed to get for a good killer build.

Decided to use the internet guide on building a good deck; Beat her on 3rd tries after restarts. And now I have absolutely no reason to use this card, other than that one last card challenge in Golden Saucer.

And it looks like I'm stuck with Red XIII on that date after all.... fuck

Nvm, I got the date with Tifa....somehow

Okay that Don Corneo rap from Botch and Kotch was pretty badass, with sick lyrics, no less. Too bad it didn't do any good as I laid waste to their "challenges".

Kinda annoyed I didn't get to permanently nail this POS! It was hilarious to see the whole team come up with ways to destroy his dick. I guess this means he will appear in third game?

And omg... Please tell me Caith isn't a traitor....

I remember my friend telling me that in the original, he chose to go on a date with Barrette because he didn't like the way the game had been pushing him to date one of the girls.

Well, chapter 13 so far has been interesting to say the least. That cutscene of the temple rising from the earth was awesome. Also, it is very clear that I am reaching the endgame. The tone of this game is now really dark. Gone are the hopeful and quirky moments. Now things are getting serious. Hell, Yuffie isn't yapping on about the Materia anymore!

The gravity puzzles are usually fun to mess around with, and while it is an amazing visual experience, I do think it was a tad bit linear here.

The enemies weren't too hard to fight, but I swear that fight against the bunch of Shinra soldiers was there as a stress relief; Because they were so fun to abuse and get the limit break bar fill up super quick. Seriously, it felt like we were the boss encounter.

The fight with the red dragon wasn't bad, but I couldn't figure out how to avoid that "floor is literal lava" attack. Thankfully, I had Aerith's limit break to shield first blow, then activated a bunch of defensive spells + pray to survive the second.

I usually hate forced party split-ups. But it was nice to see Cloud + Tifa + Barret trio again. I haven't used that combination in a while, and it did take me a min to adjusted myself of not having Aerith's spell coverage. I have been building Barret to be a tank, and he did fantastic here.

Welcome to endgame. Enjoy the ride, it's about to become a roller coaster.

Omg, Cloud/Sephiroth effect is terrifying. "It's not death, it's homecoming" has to be one of the most chilling lines ever spoken.

Goddamn it, Aerith! Why do you have to be so nice to everyone? Now it's gonna make what's coming all the harder to watch.

Party members facing their fears and guilty conscious was a bit cliche, and I probably saw them coming, but a nice touch regardless. They are all pretty fucked up, though. Red has to go through the trauma of the horrible experiment by Hojo again, Tifa, Barret, and Aerith all experience the painful loss again.

And Cloud... oooh boy, Cloud probably had it worst. Between Sephiroth continuing to taunt him, trying to grasp onto to the humanity left in him, and trying desperately to not lose those he cares about, he really is struggling. I kinda feel bad for him.

Cait's fake out death was alright. At least it has given him his redemption.

Okay, Cloud is completely gone at this point. But why does Sephiorth drop the black materia, then asks Cloud to bring it back to him?

And now I'm in chapter 14, appropriately named "The End Of The World"

And chapter 14 opens with..... Our Cloud and Aerith being transferred to the alternative universe? Or is it a dream, as Aerith says? Thankfully he seems to be himself again...for now.

And it continues to be one mindfuck after another, until I am finally brought back to the in-cannon universe.

And after exploring this area a bit, I get to Aerith.... And I told myself I that I was ready, that I already knew this was gonna happen, and it really isn't a big deal..... But it hurts. It hurts A LOT. I mean her being such a huge part of the crew aside, she was my dedicated mage, and support unit. She was so well-rounded in just about any party comp. The team dynamic is gonna be so empty without her now in the future game.

Oh.... I was expecting another final battle with Sephiorth and that radiant silver-lock hair of his, but not like this. I mean it's your typical multi-phase final boss fight in jrpg, but goddamn, it was epic. Now I am curious on how the final-final fight is gonna be like?

..And is Rufus also going insane? And is Zack in our universe now?

I see everyone is taking Aerith's loss hard, particularly Cloud and Tifa. OMG, poor Elmyra doesn't know what has happened.

Really curious on how the clear and black materia will be used in the third game? Or how Cid and Vincent will be played?

Speaking of which, I am pretty sure the third game is gonna be called "Reunion". Can't really think of any other word that would be fitting.

I usually skip credits in games, but this one I just felt like playing it out

Well that's it in terms of story. In the end it took me just over 103 hours to complete the main story.

There are stuff I can unlock post-game, and by playing hard mode, but I am gonna take a break from this game, though.

Congrats on seeing it through. If you think you're looking forward to Part 3, guess how I feel lol.

Reunion is NOT part 3's name. They already used it for the Crisis Core reboot. My current best guess is "Remade" making the trilogy Remake, Rebirth, Remade. To me "remade" fits because it sort of signifies the completion of the remake project, thus the game has now been Remade. As well as being able to retell and retie up all the loose ends that the original had.

I'm scared. I mean, I'm not gonna not play it just because it's super long, after Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii probably, but I'm still scared.
It only took me like 96 hours. But I also was determined to do all the area stuff... which probably added like 20-30 hours to it easily.
