How much of this is due to the size of the game and how much is due to Square Enix being rubbish at data compression?

I like it when games came on multiple disks. It makes it seem like it was worth the purchase
This will come off as offensive but your comment implies you're easily fooled...

Anyways, as long as the case works and isn't inconvenient and swapping CDs isn't a Major Payne then I doubt it's that big of a deal... in fact I'm surprised we have a topic about it, I can only guess that they didn't want to bring up Final Fantasy in really conversations so they had to make it an official thing.

This hullabaloo over more than one disc is silly loads of games had more than one disc and who cares if it does the only problem will be back tracking through the game if you missed stuff because of partition but then again that ends up happening in games anyway so you can't complain about that.

I've got X360 and PS3...

Gee, what console should I buy it for? The one with the single blu-ray disc for every single game released to this point or the one that still uses dvd's and has probably never been able to release a jRPG with less than 2 discs...

I still might actually get this game, despite the disc issues. If for no other reason than the novelty of having Final Fantasy on my Xbox. I'd say something inflammatory to the PS3 owners, but I fear the Hammer enough as it is.

If i didn't have 1080p, then my HD tv would be pretty shite, right? I do so visualy i stick by what i said. but having watched a blu ray movie at a friends last night i have noticed something that's better about bluray DVD's. they can fit up to 3 movies on one disc, also i must admit that the sound quality was better. However I didn't want these things i certainly don't need them so why did sony think it was a good idea to pack this in with my PS3? could they not have built 2 models 1 with and 1 without? cheaper price = more sales. Need to build less blu ray units = lower production costs.

Can any one tell me the release date for FFXIII? (please and thank you)
Well, yes, your TV may be able to support 1080p, but people neglecting to set their devices to 1080p output is pretty common. That might be why you're not seeing much difference. If your settings are correct, well... I don't know what to say. Between setting up an Xbox 360 on a CRT television at 480p, and on an HDTV at 720p, I see an immediate and significant difference in the clarity of the menus alone.

O'course, if you meant that there's no visual difference between a blu-ray disc and the now-defunct HD-DVD format, then I'm going to guess that you've missed the point a little.

In regards to your "why is a blu-ray player packed in with the PS3 when I don't need it" comments... I'm not quite sure how you could say such a thing, without some fairly sizeable misconceptions of how a PS3 is built. They didn't "pack in" a blu-ray player. The PS3 is simply capable of reading blu-ray discs. Which is useful, since every PS3 game you buy in disc-form, is written on a blu-ray disc. It is what the PS3 does. The fact that you can play normal DVDs and blu-ray movies on your PS3 is a footnote, it's a side effect of the technology that was already going into the console. It's not something they went out of their way to include. Buying a PS3 means that you don't need to buy a blu-ray player; it does not mean that you were sold some kind of videogame console-blu ray player composite device.

Sounds intriguing. Most of my favorite games are the ones with the most replayability and total content, so as long as the developers of this game can fill up the three discs for FFXIII equally, I'll be content.

Surprise surprise. Who cares? If you have a 360 only and you want to play ff then you will buy it and it will be fun. If you own a ps3 and you want to play ff then you will have a little more fun. It's not a bad thing, it is just a 'thing'.

See Tales of Vesperia and Eternal Sonata.
Thank God I said 'probably'...

Knew I was forgetting something!

Stange isn't it, the action-focussed jRPG's always seem to take up more space than the classic turn-based ones...
Though it probably has more to do with all the FMV's than anything else.

I recieved Eternal Sonata for PS3, still got to buy Tales of Vesperia (normally would have to review that one, but... change of plans).

Do you happen to know if Star Ocean is any good? It's the only other jRPG I still gotta look in to.

I have a PS3 and an XBox 360, so I felt a little at odds in respect to which platform to choose. I kind of liked the idea of multiple discs (nostalgia got the better of my senses), but the XBox 360 version doesn't come out until the third quarter of 2010, so I guess I'll buy it for PS3.

Looking forward to a little more info about Versus too; hopefully there'll be a more focus on promoting that after FFXIII has been released.

It's terrible. Possibly the worst RPG on the 360 bar Two Worlds. I fully regret buying it.

Oh my god a Final Fantasy game in multiple discs! The horror!

I personally don't care if it comes on ten discs (well, actually ten might be kind of annoying, but I'd still buy it.) because I owned a PS1 back in the day. Lets everybody get nostalgic.

FFXIII should have stayed a god damn ps3 exclusive. Because they've said they will look similar they now can't use all the ps3's power. Fucking retards. I'm not buying it. Simply because it's on the xbox.
So you don't want to buy and enjoy a game because now thousands more people can enjoy it too? Suit yourself.
This.

You're a moron if you're not going to buy a great game because its multi-plat.

By that logic I wouldn't have gotten to enjoy RE5, Fallout 3, Rock Band, BlazBlue, Madden 10, TES: Oblivion, CoD4 and the upcoming Batman: AA, Borderlands and Dragon Age: Origins.

As good as inFamous and LBP are, they can't hold my attention for years waiting on god of War 3.

I don't care if it is seven disks. Xbox 360 still gets Final Fantasy 13. Plus the more disks means more gameplay.
..or, you know, the graphics are a bit too much for just 2 disks =p

OT- Woo!!!!
