I'm just happy that ES:V is finally coming out, even more so now that we can dual-wield and level scaling is gone *delightful squeal*

Wait, so it's Fallout with swords?

18 skills isn't really a lot. Daggerfall had six hundred of them if I remember correctly.
Glad they nixed the level scaling.

SOUNDS impressive; but then, so does world peace, no hunger and free pornography. A couple things I'd like to see...

So, I wonder if bows will suck tremendous amounts of ass since there's now no real reason to use them.
What's better? An easily dodged arrow, or dual-wielded fireball spells?
Knowing Bethesda, they'll just import the bow system from Oblivion verbatim to make the other combat options look better in comparison.
This. Since this game's time period is 200 years ahead of Oblivion, there needs to be some crossbow action. Repeating crossbows would be nice, too, though I think dual-wielding two of those would be a bit overkill. And highly innacurate. And highly entertaining. Shooting multiple arrows without the use of magic would be interesting to see as well, kind of like a manual, linear shoutgun spread. But with pointy, bladed projectiles.

Oh, and because of how magic works, we're already guaranteed that it will be the same boring nonsense as before.
"Fire Touch. Ice Touch. Lightning Touch. Poison Touch."
"Fire Hadoken. Ice Hadoken. Lightning Hadoken. Poison Hadoken."
"Fire Grenade. Ice Grenade. Lightning Grenade. Poison Grenade."

All with possible "burn durations".

Without additional effects or types, combat magic quickly becomes little more than a self-recharging elemental crossbow.
This as well. Magic just didn't feel....well....magical in Oblivion. I'd like to see staves have some *oophm* in them. Take, for example, staves increasing damage done by particular spells by a percentage or set amount, or lowering mana cost for a certain magic school, or increased casting speed, or combinations thereof. Not this "it's enchanted so now it's a stick that throws spells" crap. It just seems to me if you're going to be a prominent magic-user, you should be able to do things a little quicker and with more power than your average "joe-schmelf" who wields mundane weapons going "CHOPPY CHOPPY!" or "TWANG! SWOOSH! THUNK!"

What I want to know is whether it will feature decent voice-acting, interesting characters, and compelling storylines. Oblivion certainly improved on a few areas of the gameplay, but if the characters and story are as bland in Skyrim as they were in Oblivion, I'm not sure I'm on board. Bethesda's move to emphasize the action in action-RPG is clearly pleasing a lot of people, but my favourite parts in their games were always the RPG elements.

The announced changes do seem nice, they just don't address the main things I'm interested in.

New leveling and skills system? YES!!!

I've always had a problem with Oblivion. I could never get into it and the leveling and the skills system were always the problem. Where I became very skilled in one... well, skill, it turned out to be extremely weak against a certain enemy I encountered after I leveled up. If Skyrim is going to use Fallout 3's leveling system, then I'm all for it. However, I'm a little skeptical of the inclusion of perks.[footnote] Okay, Bethesda, you borrow some stuff from Fallout 3, just not too much. :p[/footnote]

Duel wielding will be very interesting, as well as an NPC dueling system and crafting,[footnote]Even though I shudder every time I hear that word.[/footnote] but I'm not entirely sure if their necessary. Of course, I could make the argument that no new features in any sequel are necessary, but I won't, so I ain't complaining.

Oh, one more thing: Since their giving it a graphical update, I really, really, really hope that their going to fix the NPC modeling. It was pretty bad. :p

Oh thank goodness. Now it looks like I won't be able to shatter the game across my knee in 3 hours of play like in Oblivion. Meat-pie potions, make me a millionaire!

Wow, so it looks like Bethesda has decided to stop making RPGs and just go completely action-based, eh? This is a bargain bin buy if I ever saw one. Didn't think they could make the Elder Scrolls series any simpler after Oblivion. Guess I jinxed that one good. Maybe TES VI will be a rail-RPG. Just because it hasn't happened before doesn't mean Bethesda couldn't pull it off.
The only thing that I see that's been simplified is the stat/attribute system and maybe leveling if you choose to call the change a "simplification" (it's just a bit bit different, really). Everything else has been deepened and expanded. I'm particularly impressed that they're trying to contextualize the missions you get. One thing that always broke the illusion for me was how readily every single person in the world asked you to go do whatever it is they need done regardless of who you are, what you do, and who you've done it to.

I get the impression that you're upset because the complexity of the experience is moving away from numbers-based stats. That's not the important part of roleplay; the important part is giving your choices broad scope, logical context, and meaningful consequences.

You didn't mention a dagger in one hand and a dagger in the other. This makes me a sad Khajit :(

This is looking good, I think Bethesda might be a little closer to the ideal formula this time.

(Also, those graphics are looking fucking great)

I'm quite interested.
I remeber how for the first time in Oblivion, when running trough the dungeons i placed a sword in one hand and a torch in the other. And then i tried to switch the torch with another weapon, but alas, i could not! But seems like my dreams are finally coming true!

Also, finishing moves are always awesome(unless they get repetitive. Dragon Age did it right, every time i beheaded someone it was fun-fun-fun~!)

I'm not sure about this now. I hated Fallout 3 and everything about it. All they need to do is keep it the same as Oblivion without leveling the enemies and I'll be happy.

considering no one else has mentioned this yet on the NeoGAF source it says this-

'-10 races to choose from'

NEW RACE GUISE! ^_^

I wonder what it is.

EDIT: oh wait never mind :( i only thought there were 9 races origionally :( excitment over.

...now that i think about it that is pretty much useless information.

Hhmmm, you know the system I liked the best was in Daggerfall. Except for the language skills which I could never figure out how to use, the customization options were nearly limitless. Honestly, who cares if I can "Deual Wieldan" I just want to be a goddam hero or a villain in a mutha fuckin' fantasy world. Bethesda has yet to truly disappoint me with one of their games but I guess it's always possible.

I don't like how they have cut down skills even more. I want my spears and Medium armour back. I do like the change in the leveling system though. I hated how in Oblivion after you got to a certain level every thing of a certain type disappears. I know some hardcore TES fans would hate it but I would rather maybe a Morrowind thing where they just put high level monsters in certain area so you had to work a bit and do a bit of leveling. Finishing the game at level 1 is a bit ridiculous but can be done in Oblivion or something. Once you hit a certain barrier in Oblivion enemies got better and nearly every fight was just an epic battle which was unnecessary. I want my Bandit leaders to be uber not all of their hench to. It also took the fun out of having Daedric armor.
