Sounds awesome, we'll have to see what happens when it's released. I'm hoping the original writers put together a much better (and more depraved) plot and spinoff storylines.
As cool as Fallout 3 was, I for one did not think they got the vibe quite right. But that would require a long dissertation that would get well off topic.
I will also say that I think the above article is a bit too quick to dismiss "Isometric turn based gameplay" as being a bad, or "antiquidated" thing. Honestly I think it works very well for RPGs, and is one of those systems that is so perfect for what it sets out to do, that there is no reason to abandon it. Newer or "more technologically advanced" does not nessicatly equate to better.
I would point out that there are plenty of SRPGs still being made out there, and while a lot of kids scream at them for being too "retro" and not having all kinds of flashy 3d and real time FX, never mind the most important aspect: it's about management and your mind, not how fast YOU can twitch and react. Series like Disgaea and Final Fantasy Tactics continued to have respectable followings, and in that "genere" of games I think you see some potential in how the turn based combat (if not the playstyle itself) could be made to work with a new generation isometric Fallout game.
I really look forward to New Vegas, and improvements on the Fallout 3 engine. Great game. However I am one of those that still hopes we will eventually see another Fallout RPG as opposed to action/RPG. I think there is enough of a fanbase to make it worthwhile.
We'll see what happens, for the moment let's just hope that New Vegas makes it before Christmas. With the November release date I keep hearing, I am half expecting it to get pushed up into next year some time. :/
