Oaky I watched part of this trial. Whoa nelly, this man is something else.
He's a "sovereign citizen", and for that check out this video:
But TL/DW its a bullshit pseudo-legal argument by stupid people and scam artists to claim Governments have no jurisdiction over them, they're citizens of Earth. So like you get pulled over in New York? Fuck you, New York is a Jewish cabal of Jews trying to impose their laws, I don't recognize New York.
That kinda' thing.
Also they refuse to say "I understand" because they mean it as "I stand under", which is an admission of submissiveness.
So anyway, the villain of our story is one Darrell Brooks, who refuses to recognize that name and demands a dismissal of all charges because he's not Darrell Brooks. Yes that happened. He's a loony racist anti-semitic who got angry at his ex after beating her for a few months, and drove his car into a parade because he doesn't recognize police authority to hold a parade.
Unsurprisingly he chose to represent himself, and this was an extreme test of patience on the Judge's part. He "objected" to everything, questioned the validity of the court citing "subject matter jurisdiction" which was his way of demanding the courts hold a separate trial to prove Wisconsin has the right to bring charges against him.
He then later on went on to call the state of Wisconsin to the stand, citing his right to face his accusers, and when it was denied he asked for dismissal of all charges.
He also brought on several victims of his attack and other witnesses as part of his defense, trying to trick them into admitting they jumped in front of his car. And he really went after this rando white dude who helped his beaten up ex-girlfriend, who is also black, get to a women's shelter and like really went hard into his personal life, wanting to know what he did with her when and where. Like I got the impression he thinks she was sleeping with this dude and that it would matter, but he was just a rando passerby who intervened.
Over the trial Brooks was escorted out multiple times because he refused to comply with orders or argued to the judge about literally everything he could. Even when the jury reached a verdict, he argued he wasn't satisfied with the jury accounting that this was their actual judgement, because you know, juries don't have power over him.
Oh and he's a registered sex offender on the lam for 10 years after raping and impregnating a 15 year old in Nevada I think it was.
I mean just sociopathic levels of contempt for other people. Isn't sorry in the least for what he did, he's furious people think they have a right to hold him accountable.
Found guilty on all some 76 charges, sentencing is in a few weeks, he claims he'll "appeal" but 99% chance he botches the paperwork and just writes "Do over" on a napkin in crayon or turns in an Uno Reverse Card.
This is a fun breakdown of the wacky stuff he got up to:
