It's been brought to my attention that I am almost completely oblivious to this sort of thing, so I don't really have anything helpful to add on the subject of recognizing it. Personally I'm a direct kind of guy, so I'm probably just come right out and ask the lady in question directly if I wasn't sure (assuming of course that I actually wanted to do that, which I don't).

It depends. If she faces squarely toward you while you talk to her withoug having her arms folded, or if while you are sitting and she is turned towards you are both good indicators. Also while sitting if she leans forward toward you is a sign. Non verbal contact is good too, like if you say something that really doesn't require her touch or warrant physical contact, but she does anyways. Also fidgiting with her hair or clothes, and constantly smiling or laughing at whatever you say. But a really big indicator is when she will try and keep the conversation going for as long as possible, like asking follow up questions one after another, just trying to keep the interaction going as long as possible, and then when it's over lingering for a few seconds. And always keep an eye on them when the walk away from you after a conversation, if they look back, that is a plus.

Body language, body language, body language.

It can be as simple as the way people lean. It could also be they way that they sit. Or maybe they can't look at you straight in the eye without becoming a tad nervous. Fidgeting with their hair or personal affections is another give away.

Hell, even people known to be cold or depressed can change, personality wise, in very subtle ways.

Who knows, I could be wrong. I'm just going from what I've noticed people doing.

Oh same here, buddy, according to my friends I've failed to notice four girls majorly liking me within the last four years. Why don't they just come out and say it, dammit!

I'd say, from guesswork and based on the things I think I missed, that if they laugh at everything you say, always invite you to do things with them and give you hugs when you don't see the need for it.

This is impossible to answer, as it depends on the girl. I had one that flirted by punching me in the arm every time we met, or she would kick me if I didn't realize she was there. But thats painfully obvious. Most of the time its more subtle. I don't know how to help you, I have never missed a girls flirting, I'm naturally attentive to that kind of thing.

It's also an insecure stance.... if she's not comfortable with part of her body or the image she's projecting... folded arms make her feel safer. They make me feel safer when I'm having a fat day.

That's the easy part. You basically do the same thing. Smile and look her in the eyes, and make a physical connection.(doesn't have to be all at once)..

I can imagine doing all of those at the same time would seem a little creepy...maybe it's just my smile that does it.
But yeah, that sounds doable.

How to recognize it is all pretty much covered at this point. There is one rarity that nobody has seemed to mention as of yet: When she bloody well comes out and says she's been flirting with you. This probably happens when we're not noticing it very well, and they would like us to. It's nice when it happens, hilarious generally too.

Well... It depends from gal to gal. Flirting for some can be listening and offering advice and sympathy, while for others it's giggling and smiling. It's the kind of thing you know about if you know the person, like if they start acting weird and affectionate when they're usually cold and callous. That's an extreme example obviously, but I hope you get my point.
