Just because you trained someone and their kids to endure the cold, doesn't mean that they'd have more resistant children.
You'd have to only let the people with attributes naturally more resistant to the cold breed.

It would take millions of years, but after a while if we lived in a very cold climate and never left, and our children did, and all of their children and so on, adaption would make it so the cold did not effect us as much.

Anyway, the idea of, "Forced evolution" could only work if someone was, in fact, performing artificial selection. (which is what I suggested)
Evolution is not a matter of enough people living in a certain condition. In nature at least... Well, take a look at of Darwin's research.
So, next time you attempt correct someone in such a rude manner, please make sure you have your facts straight.

It came to me as I was watching a programme about a man who trained in the cold to help him indure it better. I thought that if you got a group of people and put them and their offspring through the same training for generations they would eventually develop a natural resstance to the cold, which would be usefull for colonosation of other planets ( they would be rather cold places)

This is why Napoleon and Hitler's forces were mostly run out of Russia. The Cossack and the Russian winters hurt Napoleon's army and Hitler's army in Russia was due to the battle of Stalingrad and the Russian winters.

Russians can survive in that cold climate since they have lived there that many years.

Eugenics whas been carried out with great enthusiasm by many countries, I think everyone should look a their own countries record on this issue before casting the first stone.

I think it's a disgusting idea and parctice but many prople dont know history.

They could clone the original Cold-resitant guy and then breed them like that, using only artificialy embryos, but do it in secret as not to incur the wrath of the human rights people who would rather create a super powerful race of penis armed people. Those kooky human rights activists, what will they do (or stop people doing) next!

There are two kinds of physical traits- inherited and acquired. You can acquire physical traits during your life; things like being particularly strong, quick, or not feeling the cold as much as others seem to. Seem being the key word there: You don't feel it any less than other people, you've just taught your brain to accept a lower standard temperature. It's like getting off a plane in a hot country- you're sweltering, but the locals are playing football in the midday sun.

Most traits, however, are inherited from your parents. Things like height, size, and all the physical characteristics associated with resistance to cold (Eg. More, thicker hair, low surface:volume ratio, overall large size, lots of body fat.). You would need to find the people with the genes that made them resistant to cold, and then allow only them to breed.

A more practical solution would be to pour more money into genome mapping for now, in the hopes that later on we'll be able to easily and routinely alter the genes of our embryos. Super-race, here we come!
