As Notch is on record as saying Minecraft was a clone of Infiniminer I'm not sure he has anything to complain about.

Infiniminer was an unfinished game, that isnt like minecraft. I actually heard it was open source, so he used that engine to make minecraft.

Portal uses the the same source as Half-life, i wouldnt call it a ripoff. On the other hand, if someone came out with a game called Portholes, where you shoot to PortHoles to jump through....
i doubt people would defend it, despite Portal similiarities to Half Life

So... how many sales have they made so far? If they sell over 250,000 I'll be impressed.
I will always be a Minecraft fan but I can see the appeal of a console version of the game since many people don't have computers that can run Minecraft without Java crashing (the people who only have one average laptop for all their computing)and sine Minecraft will always be a PC exclusive.

I will continue to say though that Fortress craft is still a clone and until they actually do something different it will stay a clone. This is not bad, it is just not good.

Infiniminer was a simple free game that was in development for about 1 month, then it was canceled.

Not exactly the same.

There is a difference between being inspired by something, and then using said inspiration to create something new, and simply ripping off a game to benefit from its success.
Debatable. They operate on the same principle, or so I see anyway. There's some arbitrary and inconsistent subjective degree that you can be "inspired" before it's "ripping off", and no reason for a definite line has been given.

So they plagiarized Notch's work without even giving him credit or at least a cut of the money? I think a lawsuit is due.
Actually no, Notch and Minecraft are credited in the...well, credits.
Notch also knows about this game, and it cant be sued, even if he wanted to.
They are? What credits? Also why couldn't Notch sue the creator of FortressCraft? It's the same game. There's virtually nothing to distinguish FortressCraft from Minecraft.

MineCraft itself isn't an original idea aside from the 3D aspect, which can also be argued to not be original as the origins of the engine are from another game. FortressCraft was inspired by a similar game, Dwarf Fortress, and uses the coding from MineCraft as inspiration to ensure a smooth gameplay expeirence.

There's a difference between making a COPY of another game and being inspired. Minecraft evolved far beyond Infiniminer's original goal of bringing minerals to the surface for points. It's its own entity. FortressCraft, however, is a direct copy of minecraft down to the last bloc. FortressCraft was originally a Dwarf Fortress copy which quickly turned into a Minecraft copy. The original concept for FortressCraft was exactly like that of Dwarf Fortress. It was basically Dwarf Fortress with better graphics. It's plagiarism. The same can be said about the current FortressCraft. It's a copy of Minecraft. It's plagiarism and nothing else.

A proper inspiration would be Ace of Spades.

I can't even play this if I wanted to.

For some odd reason, that probably has something to do with legal stuff, Microsoft doesn't allow the Netherlands to get the indie games.

Looks like I got another demo to try out.

Speaking of demos, why doesn't Minecraft have one?? Forcing me to throw down money on an unfinished product doesn't sound like good business sense to me. Of course, the $33 million the game has raked in seems to spit in the face of that argument, but why not have like a timed, 2 hour demo or something where you can't save just to at least TRY the game out? I bet the game would have brought in nearly $50 million if it had a try before you buy system.

EDIT: Whoopsie... Mr. Dummy didn't know there was a classic, "free" version to play.

How does classic compare to the current running beta?

don't forget wolfenstein 3d.
The only reason I didn't use it was because idSoftware made both Doom and Wolfenstein 3D and they can't really rip themselves off. I used Doom over Wolfenstein 3D because it felt much closer to the other examples listen.

But yeah, my point still stands =)

So he released a video explaining how it's not a rip-off?

Whatever helps a thief sleep at night I suppose, it's up to Mojang to sue or not.

Something tells me that the only real reason FortressCraft is selling so well is that Xbox owners just want a Minecraft style game on their console.
Duh. Forgive me for not wanting to play games on my small crappy laptop screen compared to my actual tv. I haven't played a computer game with any regularity since Warcraft 2, so I was ecstatic to be able to play a clone of the game that all my friends were talking about.

If I had a nickle for every person who thought Minecraft was an original idea by Notch.... I'd have like $90,000.

I would have loved if he brought his game to XBL, but he didn't so I play FortressCraft instead.
If I had a nickel for sometime everyone said I had a nickel :p

On Topic: I play FortresCraft, and while fun it was not enough to distract me from PORTAL 2 and third play through of OBLIVION.

Cry more people who call plagarism.

I'm gonna need to look into this but Minecraft isn't on the Xbox marketplace. Notch could've made efforts to get it there but going by how staggeringly slow Minecraft's development is going we MIGHT see a finished version on Xbox Live in what...? A few years?

He probably lost being a hit on one platform by someone who can release a finished product. Welcome to business. He's still way more popular at the moment. He's like the Call of Duty to Fortresscraft's other modern shooter!

This isn't available in Britain for some bizarre reason, I haven't seen any reason given for why either.

Hmmm, I would have thought it'd come under the 'Arcade' section in general. I shall check it out, thanks.
