Fox News is warning parents about the impending release of Bulletstorm [http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=bulletstorm&x=0&y=0] in a report alleging that videogames are actually responsible for an increase in the incidence of rape. (No, I am not making this up.)
Really? So, given the number of female gamers out there, we can safely assume that there are hordes of ravening women out there who savage innocent males to quench their unholy lusts.

To be fair, Weichman's got a point here. I don't believe I need to bring up Xbox Live or PSN again, but I will anyway.

I looked through the comments on the actual article and everyone there is trashing fox also!!!

"I hadn't heard much about this game until I read this article. NOW I'M PUMPED FOR IT! Thank you Fox news, if not for your paranoid sensationalizing I might not have bought this game!"

This has made my day

Fox News is both informative and intelligent.

See, I can make shit up too.
BURN!

OT: I love how even though Fox blantently ignores fact, they still expect people to take them seriously. And the sad thing is, there are people who are stupid enough to.

I personally can't wait until the gaming generation takes over politics and the media. At least then this uninformed dribble will shut the hell up.
And then we can go and crush the new dreams brought to our attention by the next generation. The cycle continues. Beautiful!

In the words of Lois Griffin: "Even if something is truth, when it is reported by Fox News, it automatically becomes a lie."

Family guy is a fox cartoon, but it illustrates the point oh so well.

"The marketing is clearly aimed at children and young adolescents," said Professor Melanie Killen of the University of Maryland. She claimed that the ESRB is a failure because there is no enforcement of ratings, noting that while the FCC monitors television broadcasts and levies fines against those who violate decency regulations, there are no such penalties for selling violent games to kids.
Please tell them to stop confusing "marketing aimed toward immature adults" (myself included) with "marketing aimed toward children." It's not the same.

Just because the ad appeals to a certain childishness present in many adults, that doesn't change the fact that every single person involved in the making and distributing of this game is telling people to keep kids away from it. It's for adults. Immature ones that enjoy things like shooting of "bungholes," and making jokes about "gang bangs," but adults nonetheless.

Well, time to go rape something, I guess...

I'm pretty sure that the sex scenes being played out are really consensual...

So, wouldn't that just make a guy or a chick go to a bar or club and having a meaningless romp with a possible slut/manslut? I don't get where the risk of rape comes from...

*blinks with confusion*

Wait, wait wait, I knew Bulletstorm would get new-media, news attention, but for it's "sexual implications", it's a game called Bulletstorm and the best they can come up with to insult it is saying that is has "sexual implications" I didn't believe these guys when they had actual insults, and now it's just pathetic.

Heck these days you would think more parents are more than willing to play the game and know better. But we still got those still stuck in the mindset that games are for kids and anything like Bulletstorm shouldn't even be produced. And we can thank Fox largely for that set of ignorance and laziness.
Yes... THAT'S why I'm playing an adrenaline fueled FPS with a pint glass of red bull... for the children.

It's things like this that remind me that no news really is good news, since any news is bound to be misreported, twisted, spun, or even made-up, regardless of who's talking.

Really, I am developing a dislike of Fox News that goes far beyond my regular cynicism and negativity. Not everything about Fox is bad, mind you, they can still put out a decent news story from time to time (so long as it revolves around something less trivial than violent videogames, or similar subjects), but a story like this really bugs me. It's like they have to save their credibility for the big stories, and so small things have to be somewhat sensationalized. It's depressing, really. Granted, I dislike just about every news outlet (mainly for trivial things, but some big things too), so this isn't out of the ordinary. Maybe I'm just a bit flared up about the subject here...

Granted, this article here on The Escapist is also pretty sensationalized....

I doubt any of those dumb bastards played the game, or any games.

"Oh terrorists use them to train!"

"They teach our kids violence!"

"Its interactive porno!"

Will these people just shut the hell up? Man, these game companies should work up the teeth to sue for this libel. It's absolute garbage.

Ha. Yeah, just wait until Rupert Murdock becomes friends with Bobby Kotick and EA starts gettting lobbyists and starts donating to the GOP. Then FOX will be defending the right of free speech and capitalism from the left wing socialists who want to ban something by using the typical liberal fascist scare tactics and the god-hating scientific method.

Who cares? No one who watches FOX is actually convinced by FOX. They already agree or else they'd be watching something else.

I actually laughed out loud reading this.

Well, I just played a couple hours of violent videogames. Off to go rape me some women, I am! Obviously!

...Off the top of my head, I don't really see "hardcore gamer" and "rapist" as commonly overlapping adjectives. Ya know.

You know... I'm going to have you buy this game, play it, and NOT rape people just to prove them wrong.

It won't ever end, will it?

Absolutely ridiculous.

Y'know - I think it's gotten to the point where the world-wide gaming community needs to come together as a whole and stamp these scapegoatistic BS theories and notions into the ground. As long as gamers don't have a voice, and aren't willing to become vocal about these lies, the media will simply continue to propagate them at will.

It needs to stop.
