"If a younger kid experiences Bulletstorm's explicit language and violence, the damage could be significant," said Dr. Jerry Weichman of the Hoag Neurosciences Institute in Southern California. "Violent videogames like Bulletstorm have the potential to send the message that violence and insults with sexual innuendos are the way to handle disputes and problems."
The "problems" in Bulletstorm aren't exactly "that ***** walked in front of me!"

In all fairness, if a shirtless guy roaring incoherently with green skin and scars all over his body charges at me with a big looking knife you can bet your ASS I think "violence and insults with sexual innuendos" is the best and coolest way to handle the issue.

""""""The marketing is clearly aimed at children and young adolescents," said Professor Melanie Killen of the University of Maryland. She claimed that the ESRB is a failure because there is no enforcement of ratings, noting that while the FCC monitors television broadcasts and levies fines against those who violate decency regulations, there are no such penalties for selling violent games to kids. """""

Once again, woman, it's entirely up to the parents about whether or not a child can get an M rated game. Im kind of glad Fox News blue the whistle on Bulletstorm (even though they did it in a biased and poorly informed way). Hopelyy this means less minors ill be playing M games.

Shouldn't the title say psychologist and author says bulletstorm could increase rape? Or do we just assign their views as fox news' values.
SO under this logic in the title we could say FOX News says ?It's been praised for encouraging innovative thinking. Bulletstorm involves developing new moves and dispatching of enemies creatively. Plenty of emotionally unstable adults will play the game and they?ll be fine,?

Or FOX news says ?Between a great ratings system, parental controls on the consoles and the major retailers inhibiting the
sale of Mature-rated games to minors, the matter is really one for parents and adults to consider, individually,?

Or FOX News says the U.S., game makers have the right to produce violent content. If the government restricts games they would have to further restrict all media.

Any of those would be equally valid

In the article we have EA's statement about the game, ESA's statement on ESRB and california law, we have the oportunity for Epic and People can fly to make a statement about it, and Hal Levy in support of it.

Against we have two psycologist and a Professor from U of M.

Huh almost like a pretty balanced approach... outside of the Title seems pretty fair article to me.

But anyways I guess an editorial slant is okay in this newspost, as the escapist makes no claims to fair or balanced.

Thank you, Faux News. Thank you for giving me the chance to use the above image twice in less than 5 minutes on 2 different websites.

OT: I played the Bulletstorm demo about 213985 shitzillion times now, and I haven't had the urge to rape anybody yet... but that's probably because the game clouded my judgment with some sort of First Amendment smokescreen and I didn't see it's malicious intentions.

Y'know, this is what that dude on Extra Credits was talking about when he said that we should prove to people that videogames aren't toys, cos then a game like Bulletstorm comes along and Faux News says it's aimed at children.

I like how every week, the big news flash is that some news channel is reporting that video games are corrupting the youth of world and must be stopped at all costs. It's not news, they've been doing it for decades now. And while I know Fox News is huge glowing bulls-eye on the wall, all the media does it, and does it often.

Someone needs to ask Bill O'Reily about magnets.

I guess Fox are the experts on rape given how they treat facts.

Latest on the Fox News shit machine...

Sexual content and violence in games!
Focusing on Bulletstorm when there are dozens, possibly hundreds of other, better examples in both the sex and violence are even more extreme. We even had a great one less than two weeks ago.

Oh Fox, why wont you just live up to your name and be shot by professional hunters and mauled by dogs already?

Afterthought: Wonder what its going to be like when theyre choking on Duke Nukem Forever.... pfffffFFFFFFffft
Remember guys, some games are Rated M for Manly. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RatedMForManly]
oh man when they see duke nukem forever, it might just blow their minds and shit their pants

Carol Lieberman, a psychologist and book author, told FoxNews.com that sexual situations and acts in video games -- highlighted so well in Bulletstorm -- have led to real-world sexual violence.
Carol Lieberman needs to be fired from his/her job and BEAT WITH AN UGLY STICK
If they mean Carole Lieberman, shes actually a Psychiatrist (medically trained vs psychologically trained) and is already ugly as hell: http://www.drcarole.com/

Also, a quote from her website describing her
Maintaining a star-studded practice in Beverly Hills, Dr. Lieberman is well known as a psychiatric expert witness who testifies in high profile trials, and analyzes trials in the media. Psychiatrists, psychologists and other mental health professionals hold Dr. Lieberman in highest esteem, recognizing her as a famous psychiatrist who deserves to be called the Dr. Freud of modern times.
Freud of modern times? Now I know why Fox picked her.

Fox Noobs use videogames as scapegoats! In other news, the sun rises ,there is no air on the moon, and Sarah Palin has air between her ears! Details at 10!

Seriously, though. This has got to me the most idiotic allegation they've made yet. By giving a funny name to a funny way of killing someone, is an average gamer going to think "Gee, killing pixels in an unrealistic manner is fun! I should go out and rape someone!"? If they do think like that, then they have major issues. I bet People can Fly will be calling Fox to tell them how ridiculous this is within 24 hours.

I would be interested in seeing, not the effects on children, the effects on emotionally unstable adults. People with fully developed hormonal systems with access to napalm and chainsaws. Kids are resilient, I want to know what is happening to the clinically disturbed adult who has unfettered and unquestioned access to this material. Why aren't we worried about them? Why aren't we trying to keep these games away from clinic doors?

It bothers me how some people really can't understand how Fox News works. On most of their news shows they bring in external commentators, many of which are idiots, to speak on the issue at hand. They try to get both sides of an issue, which in many cases, especially involving video games, can lead to extremist behavior (on both sides).

Not saying that this particular commentator is correct or that the network is unbiased, but please make it a point not to connect the temporary employer to the idiot, at least in this case.
