why would they put coop in Dragon Age?Templarixx said:I am extremely excited about DA 3 because it is supposed to have co-op, but this just helps to add excitement.
Most of them are of the FPS variety, but some different games are starting to appear (C&C).Hawkeye 131 said:As you pointed out EA has been getting it's money's worth out of Frostbite that's for sure; - Battlefield 3 - Need for Speed: The Run - Medal of Honor: Warfighter - Army of Two: The Devil's Cartel - Command & Conquer: Generals 2 - Battlefield 4 - Dragon Age 3: Inquisition
And that, yes. But I think money comes first for EA.Scrustle said:The reason the game is using the engine is because EA is trying to put it in every game it can because it wants to advertise what a great engine it is
Well I say "advertise" because that is what it looks like. Whenever it's in a game they always make a huge deal out of it. It's in the trailers and splash screens when you start up many games. It makes it look like the games are little more than advertisements for the engine, because they are planning to license it out themselves. They want a slice of that Unreal money.shadebreeze said:And that, yes. Why wouldn't they? It would only add more sales and the game would most likely receive higher ratings for including co-op. Many critics seem to vote down when a game doesn't have a co-op and the critic feels it should.SajuukKhar said:why would they put coop in Dragon Age?Templarixx said:I am extremely excited about DA 3 because it is supposed to have co-op, but this just helps to add excitement.
Co-op could be fun, the second player doesn't make choices and imo, if you find a good friend, they probably wouldn't care and would just like to enjoy being able to play co-op.Templarixx said:Why wouldn't they? Continually pushing the engines capability graphically is different to programming it to do a game type it wasn't built for. Traditionally a RTS would have a very different engine to say a FPS, as they are displaying different environments. The RTS would be displaying lots of lower quality models/units and drop their lods fast to keep the frame rate up, while a FPS would have higher detail, but alot smaller view and maps. Now I say traditionally for a good reason, as the difference between the modern RTS and FPS detail levels are slowly dissolving and thanks to modern hardware it may be possible to do one engine that fits all. However its yet to be proven to do it well, I'm just saying that I have reservations.Hazy992 said:Hey if Valve can get so much mileage out of the Source Engine I don't see why the Frostbite engine can't be optimised for an RPG.RicoADF said:It's also going to be used for the next C&C game, so add RTS to the list as well.
To be honest I'm very skeptical, their trying to do everything with one engine rather than have engines that are optimised for specific game types. It's a great FPS engine, but it's currently unproven in the other fields (although third person probably wouldn't be an issue).
Speaking of Source, Valve really need a new engine. Source is really showing its age.

I really just want to respond with "so?"..I really want to. I also wanted to post a "You don't say?"glchicks said:You're forgetting that mass effect is a third person shooterRandom Argument Man said:I hate to pull this on you guys, but....Marik2 said:With EA that might be plausibleRandom Argument Man said:Did you seriously asked this question or are you just trolling?Tigerlily Warrior said:So does this mean DA3 will be a FPS? Anyone??
Using a graphics engine does not mean that gameplay changes. It should only look pretty. Mass Effect kept using the Unreal 3 engine. I don't see much people complaining about that.
Dragon age 3 using Frostbit 2?Tigerlily Warrior said:Would love to hear your thoughts...
Err... BioWare does have a bunch of writers and programmers who've been around since Baldur's Gate or so. The problem doesn't lie in the people working directly on the games, but in the ones giving them orders from above.glchicks said:So I will reiterate my one argument, in caps bolded so you won't "Miss" it this time. THE OLD GUARD HAS LEFT AND GONE. GREG AND RAY AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO MADE BIOWARE IS GONE. BIOWARE IS DEAD. LONG LIVE BIOWARE.
You make a fair point, but you've got to remember that Source hasn't just been used for FPS games. Dota 2 uses Source, as well as a number of games not developed by Valve such as Alien Swarm.RicoADF said:snip

Oh get over yourself. Calling people the "Devil" because they happen to buy video games from a certain publisher is beyond childish. It's a video game, play something else. There are indie developers, there's obsidian's kickstarter. I have no love for EA but acting like a spoiled brat and calling people the personification of all evil because you don't like something just makes you look like an ass.PercyBoleyn said:Not when it's true.Tank207 said:Oh for the love of all that is good a decent! How did you quote me nearly a day later and get an old version of a post I had edited hours before you posted?PercyBoleyn said:Dragon Age: Origins was. You can see the care and attention the developers gave it, something which was noticeably missing from its sequel.
