I feel triggered that people are triggered over the use of the term trigger warning. But I may have triggered you by not giving a trigger warning at the start of this post concerning the presence of trigger warnings that have triggered people that they want trigger warnings to be renamed less they trigger people in triggering ways.
"Trigger warnings" are bullshit. But I think they were also a passing fad, and seem to have retreated back to blogs as sort of content indicator.

Part of me is happy that Armenia lost the war against Azerbaijan due to Armenia sending us Anita Sarkeesian.

I wasn't going to say this as its one of the weirdest experiences Ive had art but I just can't let go of that period thing...

So, a decade ago, a friend of mine was asked by her sister to do an art project.... with her poop. She went back to London over Xmas and just left a bunch for her sister before coming back to Australia. Apparently, it got the go ahead to go into a gallery in the UK (where the sister lived). She offered to show me photos. To which I declined. So I don't know if she was actually shitting me (I'm not doing any research on that thanks) but that's way to far for my tastes. All I could imagine was 2 girls 1 cup and... nope

So in the midst of a sexual harassment suit, Blizzard's still monkeying around.

Or the world's gone apeshit. :(
Just wanna be clear. I thought Activision was the one with all the sexual harassment shenanigans, not Blizzard specifically. I might have forgotten

The allegations are aimed at Blizzard, a fair whack of them if memory serves are pre-ActiVision’s merger with them but enough of them occurred while under ActiVision’s corporate umbrella that they too are being held accountable.

So, as someone who has defended Natalie through her many and various non-issue controversies with (mostly) cishet people trying to prove what big allies they are by bashing a transwoman, I have to admit that I've really lost a lot of patience with her lately.

So, and its really sad I have to explain this to you, but of course I have to explain it to you. Noone is actually going around claiming to be gay heterosexuals. Natalie is joking about the fact that gen Z queer people tend have a more playful and fluid concept of identity than older queer people, and personally, I would give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that she's making a joke at her own expense, like "hah hah look at me I'm such an Xennial idiot who is totally out of touch with the youth."

But as pointed out, this is reminiscent of the way right wingers actually talk about queer people, and especially younger queer people. That kind of feigned non-comprehension and dramatic exaggeration as a form of mockery is just a huge part of right wing discourse and has been for years ("I identify as an attack helicopter"). Right wingers constantly pretend that all this complex identity stuff is just too hard for them, or that it's silly and meaningless, all while gradually repurposing the Greek alphabet to describe all the many and various flavours of basic heterosexual men they invented this week.

Compare this with her portrayal of Baltimore Maryland from the transtrenders video. Baltimore is a stereotype of a non binary person, they're ridiculous, contrary, intentionally confusing and completely indifferent to social norms. Exactly the way right wingers love to imagine and joke about non-binary people. But Natalie really, really understood that character, and made it funny and truthful to a lot of people's experiences of being non-binary. Hearing the same person joke about how they can't understand the kids and their new fangled genders is just sad.

But it's important to remember that Natalie is a millionaire now. She's in a position where she can largely insulate herself from experiences other queer people have to live with, and that shows.

Also, I just have to add that "I'm an asexual slut who loves sex" is an entirely plausible statement and not really contradictory beyond the fact that it sounds weird. "Heterosexuality doesn't make your gayness any less valid" is also actually a pretty interesting position.

Word salad.

Whether you agree or disagree with this Sally Hines is one thing, but if you're failing to understand what she's saying, that's entirely on you. Those two quoted tweets are 100% intelligible and meaningful. What you're doing here is little different than making fun of a physicist talking about string theory or a computer scientist talking about machine learning algorithms as "word salad"; it's plain anti-intellectualism.

"LOL, look at the dumb post modernist cultural marxisist word salad..."

The magnetic flux in the transformer core is equal to the MMF divided by the Reluctance of the core. The MMF is proportional to the current flowing through the primary winding, and the number of turns of the primary. The ratio of the number of turns in the primary compared to that of the secondary determines the secondary voltage with a given applied voltage at the primary. The example of a Step Up Generator Transformer: This Transformer is humming along happily, when it's called on for a tap change. This particular Transformer has the tap changer on the Primary side. This particular tap operation alters the turns ratio by reducing the number of turns in the primary winding. The result of this is an increase in the voltage developed in the secondary winding as predicted by the turns ratio/voltage ratio relationship.

I was literally about to make this point.

Like, the first one is literally a joke. This dude read a joke, didn't get it, and thought it was serious. Cringe.

As for Sally Hines. It's a fucking tweet she clearly wrote on impulse in a few seconds, so what's even the point? Honestly, if there is problem there, it's that she's specifically avoiding using obscure or difficult language and ends up being too imprecise. She is literally talking down to you (well, not to you exactly), and yet apparently she still managed to overestimate the audience.

This is basic. This is the absolute bare minimum. This isn't even written for academics, it's written for a moderately educated audience of feminist and trans twitter users who have learned how to read academic writing to a basic level and who engage with these concepts easily because they live them. It's written by someone who is really not even trying.

If you want to see the difference between useful and meaningless language, try using it yourself and see how far you get.

Honestly, the appropriation of the concept of psychological triggers is something that genuinely irritates (not triggers) me. They're content warnings. Just call them content warnings. If you're worried people might not have the emotional resilience to deal with certain forms of content and want to inform them ahead of time so they can make an informed decision about what thoughts they want to put into their head, that's a content warning. As a person with ADHD, I appreciate content warnings sometimes, but I don't get triggered.

For a person with severe psychological trauma, being 'triggered' can mean them becoming completely physically paralysed and unable to move their body, or leaving the house half dressed in the middle of winter and getting lost in their own neighbourhood because they can't remember where they live, or crying uncontrollably for hours followed by days of debilitating depression.

It doesn't have to be that bad, but it's still a very very long way from simply wanting to control the kind of content you're exposed to to help you manage your mood, which is a normal thing. You don't even need to be mentally ill at all to want control over that. Equating that with being "triggered" is like claiming to be a holocaust survivor because you once went on a disappointing camping trip.

So basically, yeah. Trigger warnings are bullshit. Content warnings are great, and we should use them more often.
