I feel a bit stupid... but how exactly do you do that?Somonah said:Password changed and CC details deleted. hopefully that's enough. i don't want to go to the bank again i was there yesterday
This is about the same timeline Sony told everyone things might be serious, a few days, but everyone lost their minds then.Jiefu said:It was bound to happen eventually, but it's nice to see they told people quickly (it's a good idea, internet companies!) and gave them details. Hopefully Steam Guard holds up.
I was just on. I'll check.OutrageousEmu said:Is this why I can't play TF2? or is that a seperate problem?
You misunderstand. Valve will need to do some damage control, similar to Sony during the PSN hack. Normally this involves giving out freebies to it's gamers. Hence the 'joke' about Valve giving out free copies of Portal 2 or the more likely outcome of TF2 hats.Divine Miss Bee said:i'm sure if you can prove to valve that the hack has created a new person, they'll happily give you a free copy of portal 2. in the meantime, those of us affected won't hold our collective breath.Gennadios said:Free copies of Portal 2 for everyone effected.
this sucks, but i hope this news is the most it sucks. it'd be nice to not have to cancel my card, since my bank is made of jerks.
There's a certain elevated probability it's still always the same folks doing it, either because it's just what they do or because they think they're sticking it to The Man.TitanAtlas said:Also... why hack Steam? i acctually don't get it... it's user friendly for the community, it has loads of promotions, its good to use...
Is there any kind of corporate corruption going on, or is this a statment of "WE WANT HL3 NOW" awfully performed?
I don't think Steam thought of this in advance? In fact there's nothing there about any compensation.The_root_of_all_evil said:Something Sony only thought of after the hacks happened.

Steam thought of it as it happened. You may remember the free copies of games it gave away the last time something bad happened. I'll be willing to bet my account that defrauded Steam users will be compensated because of that.Pearwood said:I don't think Steam thought of this in advance? Indeed. Their first offer pretty much only helped out the banks. Not the people you need to convince to come back to your network.The_root_of_all_evil said:Steam thought of it as it happened. You may remember the free copies of games it gave away the last time something bad happened.
Well it was kind of a generic PR statement just like the one Sony made. Plus it comes down to the same thing, "We don't know how far the hack goes". Only real difference is Sony shut off service and Valve hasn't.The_root_of_all_evil said:It's also admitted when it was attacked and how much was stolen. Something that Sony still hasn't done.
They've also said sorry, which is a big plus in my book.
Not unless they get access to your Paypal password. Which they shouldn't because it's not stored via Steam.Soviet Heavy said:Does this affect Paypal users as well?
