Gabe Newell: Valve E3 Surprise Isn't Episode 3

It better not be a Team Fortress 2 sequel. I just bought 2. 2 is enough, we have good updates for it.

Anyways, my money is on Left 4 Dead 3.

Hell, they've left it so late that they'rejust creating more work for themselves in updating the game engine as well. If they'd followed up straight after episode 2, it would have been better all round.

At this point I think Valve has just realized that Portal and Left 4 Dead makes them more money than Half-Life, and forgotten about it. Kinda hard to blame them with how much money Portal and L4D are bringing in. (Although that wouldn't explain why they've been giving out free updates to TF2 for the last 3 years).

What could the surprise be now? Team Fortress 3? L4D3? Portal 4, a game so awesome it tore a hole in time (the same fate that befell Duke Nukem)? Maybe a brand new game!

I doubt we will be seeing a TF3 anytime soon. considering it took TF2 10 years of development hell before it saw the light of day.

Hell, by that logic we will be lucky to ever see HL3.

It was worth the 10 years though.

This is just getting laughable. Valve are comfortably resting on their laurels, grinning smugly to themselves, and when they do finally release the damn thing (with a minimalistic graphical upgrade, if the fans are lucky) people will happily shell out their money in a near-orgasmic frenzy and praise to the heavens the existence of an outdated expansion to an outdated game.

Actually that could backfire in such a hilarious way.

"We finally made Episode 3! Isn't it great? All the weapons are still there and at the end you and Alyx totally make out!"

"Mister Newell, we just do not care anymore. You left it too long and decided you'd rather sell game modes as whole games, we just do not care"

At this point I hope that it'll backfire in some spectacular way, but I honestly don't believe that'll happen.

After reading the cancellation letter in all its freaky/cryptic glory I had this beautiful imagining of a Ep-3 Portal 2 merge release. But I then realised if such a wondrous announcement were to be made, myself and many other fans would probably suffer some variation of fatal heart attack/ brain haemorrhage due to the sheer excitement and they would have effectively destroyed their market.

... But I'm sure whatever it is, its gonna be COOL
