Nice to see someone remembers the classics. I've played the first one and I'm not sure it's aged super well at this point(I played it around 20 years ago and it felt a bit dated then). It's very much a product of it's time and the voxel graphics can be hard on the eyes for sure. Let me put it this way, if you think the original RE is a bit janky, AitD is really gonna be fun for you.

I'd argue if you really want to play it for the sake of gaming history, go for it. But by now you've played better games of this type if you have any interest in these types of games. Anything by Frictional hits the same notes(well, maybe not ANYTHING but you're getting the same feel with less jank for sure) and Resident Evil is no doubt more refined in it's gameplay and graphics(though a bit campier for sure).

Honestly the visual novel genre is doomed to die and these devs should embrace the inevitable
The genre still has much to offer small developers, especially if they want to make a branching path RPG with multiple characters. The Visual Novel allows for detailed, static artwork that can attribute dialogue easily enough without the costing outlay of what we might call 'The BioWare experience'.

I get Steam not wanting to host VNs from Japan that would have them contravene the laws of their home base, but I don't think the genre as a whole is going to die.

@BrawlMan , you might appreciate this.

The only downside of watching these is he's talking about all the cool music theory shit and how much he's getting out of it and I'm sitting here feeling like a dummy for not noticing most of this because I'm mostly just having a good time listening to it.

Then again I'm unable to play an instrument and I have court orders preventing me from singing in public so enjoying music is about as deep as I can go most of the time.

Believe it or not, I watched this last night! Still, thank you!
