Anything else new? This has been known about for years, Bryce. You are not really adding much new at this point.
While the core knowledge may be established, Bryce's unique perspective and innovative approach still breathe fresh life into the subject, making it worthwhile to reevaluate and explore from a new angle.

I forgot I even responded to that. Me personally there's not much left to be learning about this now, but if somebody finds something out or something else I'm missing, then go for it.

It's basically "Twitch Plays Silent Hill", except worse in every conceivable way.
If anyone wants to play a real Silent Hill game at this point, either get Alan Wake I & II, Evil Within 2, whatever good indie horror games out there on Steam, and of course, the actual good SH games.

Not really a hot take as I’m sure it’s a common opinion by now -

Maybe it doesn’t have to die completely, but at least make it conditional to build type (ie light builds are the only ones that can do it without fat rolling or some other significant encumbrance) so people with great shields and whatnot can’t just be spamming the crap; not only because it dilutes the unique strengths and weaknesses that certain builds should have but also because it looks ridiculous.

Yikes...

Welp, it was nice knowing y'all

Nick Colandra and Yahtzee and everybody fired/quit this site. And since they're the reason I'm here, I already quit my patreon subscription. It was nice chatting with you guys.
We already know. You're a little late to the party. You can still chat with us if you want.

This is somewhat unrelated, dodging aside, but I remember there were people complaining about Bayonetta style dodges and that they were "too many of them". There weren't that many, but the ones that copied didn't do a good job. That was only some of them. I did notice that the people complaining about Bayonetta style dodges, didn't start getting really vocal or getting tired of them until after Bayonetta 3 came out. All of a sudden they started caring or having a problem. I'm like "why do you care to complain now or have it be an issue all of a sudden? Why didn't you say anything back then? Why start now?". I get Bayonetta 3 is a contested sequel, but it's not that bad and that game didn't make the dodging bad in the first place. If you're tired of those type of action games, then take a break or play something else.

I think I just heard the perfect phrase to describe how you can try and try at something in a game over and over with no success, take a break from it, then come back and beat it first try. Secret Lessons. Because you are learning but all the lessons are subconscious and you need time for your brain to process them.

Well Nick hasn’t even been here for over a year now, and I’ve never seen Yahtzee post unless he’s under some other name. Patreon isn’t needed for forum access and posting but that actually reminds me I have to cancel my basic patronage on the Escapist Youtube site. I’ll support whatever follows as long as it’s an independently managed site.

That brings up another point, since this forum’s days are quite possibly very numbered now, if Gamurs Group is even aware of it anymore. Wondering it the Escapist Discord would still be a good place for everyone to keep in mind and stay in loop on what’s next. I sure as shit won’t be going back to Gamespot/IGN/Giantbomb/etc. for game forum postings at the very least.

I mean, Resident Evils the top 1, Monster Hunters #2 (though World I believe is the actual top single game). then I'll say Mega Man, Street Fighter, DMC then some other niche stuff would be farther down.

I was never much of a follower of Boogie2988 outside of his Francis sketches, but as his self-inflicted decline started to upstage the entertainment value of his content, I had to unsubscribe a couple of years ago; no level of schadenfreude was worth sticking around as this man had a very public collapse. Then this popped up on my feed. Oof, this is a rough watch. As sad and pathetic as this tale is (insofar as any decent person doesn't want to see anyone fail this miserably,) it's hard to feel either sympathy or empathy as you realize he's done (and continues to do) it all to himself.

First time I've ever heard of this guy, but there are about over 50,000 stories like him on YouTube that face a similar or worse fate. I rather not watch that documentary.

Wow, how did you manage to miss Boogie2988 after all these years? He's got one of the older channels on YouTube that was once pretty prolific. He was hard to miss at his peak if your YouTube algorithm steered you towards videogame content. I have to believe you may have been exposed to a few of his videos, you just don't recognize him by name, and in that thumbnail, he looks very different from the person he famously is/has been on YouTube.

While many YouTube channels have come and gone, I never once seen this guy's videos nor really heard of them. If I did, it was at a glance, because I know I never clicked his videos once. I maybe saw a video link in my recommendation but never clicked on it. The earliest YouTubers I definitely remember from the gaming side are Armake21 (rip), Hellsing920 (rip), darknessthecurse, jedite (the first video game YouTuber I subscribed to), and a few from the early anime community that aren't around anymore.

Despite being generally enmeshed in that, he never really comes up in my radar. Back when I still watched AngryJoe I know he had a couple of crossovers or whatever, but nothing significant.

And then just hither and thither mentions, usually cause he was in some controversy or another (I forget which or all of the grab bag of Sarkeesians, Gamergates, and whatever other gibbering nonsenses since then)
