Another game breaker is in Mass Effect, when i completed the first mission I was put on that ship and had to go somewhere, the thing is the mini map didn't tell me where, so I would run around the ship for 2 hours trying every single door in the entire thing (i guess except one) looking for a damn room that wasn't there. So I never got to go any farther into the game and I couldn't enjoy it. Luckly it was a rental so it didn't matter all that much. But what really pisses me off is when a game over complicates itself making just traveling through the menus a complete *****.
Dude, really? All you have to do is go up the stairs and talk to the pilot (Joker). 30 seconds, max, assuming you don't stop to talk to anyone.

Halo 3, the road to voi level on legendary. Waves of brutes come at you with everything from spikers to fuel rod cannons just after you loss your warthog. Took me hours and I still couldn't do it. Had to call in a friend for co-op (which was fun).

In DMC4, that room where you have to extend your arm from orb to orb in mid-air. Tricky thing is, the camera kinda screws up and it becomes real tedious not to fall under. Bitchy thing is, the room under is a perma-repop zone for creeps... Every time you fall, you have to fight the same creeps, go back up the turning staircase, try again. It sounds easy but god was it frustrating.
Oh, I remember that. I actually got it on the first try, but I was hung up on it for a long time in my second playthrough.

Also in DMC4, the part in which you must slow down time and then scale a set of gigantic fan blades, all the while having to deal with a time limit until the blades speed up again and shred you, and a fixed camera angle. Also a site of limitless creep spawning...

Above all, that one random and out of place stealth segment that is forced into so many run-and-gun action games. Not the kind where sneaking is simply beneficial, no, those are fine. I'm talking about the kind in which if you're spotted, you instantly fail and have to start over. It's a testosterone filled pyromania most of the time, but in this one specific segment, you just can't do anything but hide. You don't even get a chance to defend yourself. It's not like you can take on entire armies by yourself in the rest of the game... (This isn't directed at one specific game. There are so many that are like this...)

Yunalesca stopped me from playing Final Fantasy 10 for a good few months...she is so god dang annoying...first of all there is a good 10-15 min cutscene before u fight here that u have to watch every single time...then she has 3 forms which has more and more health with each one...and in her second form, she casts Zombie on you, basically making all heals do damage to you, oh, but if u happen to get rid of the zombie, as soon as u go onto her 3rd form, boom, she uses MegaDeath, which is an instant kill to anyone...unless u are in zombie form, so the whole battle turns into one big long grueling trial of endurance x-x....grrr..

All the time. Probably the only games where I HAVEN'T run into this are Fallout 3 and Fable II
Honestly though, that's because both of those games are piss-easy, isn't it? And yes, I'm also playing Fallout 3 on "Very Hard", or whatever. The game still isn't hard.

I think the lack of actual puzzles or *possible* game-breakers is/was quite a let-down.
yes and I also get deterred from a game easily. I kinda enjoy it though, you have to be fairly smart and what not to survive but you aren't snapping the controller in anger/

Some of the combat sections in PoP: Sands of Time were bloody horrible, I think I was almost reduced to tears on a couple of occasions... I just wanted to run around and do puzzles ok!?!
I will probably make you cry now but remember the bit with the elevator platform?

Farah and her death wish win out no matter how well you fight....

Also:

Dead Space- Meteor shooting fun

Gears 2 (insane) - defending the satt comm from the reavers with a shitty turret as Dom stands next to the other turret looking at it

also the entire assfuck cockface tank level

Climbing the temple at the end of Tomb Raider anniversary
I think I lost count of how many attempts that section took me...

Oh, now look what you've done!

Oh God, Mirror's Edge was horrible with this stuff. I seemed to get particularly stuck at the beginning of one level, where you were in a van and then you had to jump out and take out a bunch of enemies. The problem is that I was going for the achievement where you don't use guns throughout the entire campaign, and I played on normal. I was always able to take out the first few guys, but then the guy with the SMG shredded me to pieces.

It was HORRIBLE!!!

Oh, I remember that too. 'twas annoying, and I had to try it so many times to finally get past it.

Also, maybe it was just me, but I can't remember any very hard parts in God of War, maybe the boss fight on the harder difficulties.

That bit was horrible even on easy mode using the guns. And the warehouse fight...Just horrible.

Then there was that bit where I was so badly stuck I had to look up a walkthrough, you had to run along a wall then double jump off it onto a red pole above you... ugh.

I remember it actually being easier on hard with guns than on medium without guns.

For a game that didn't want you to use guns, it was a hell of a lot easier with guns.

In Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. There's this one sequence very late in the game, I think right before the final boss battle, where you play as the dark prince, going through this area full of traps and pitfalls. If you've never played this game, you need to know this. The dark prince, although better in combat, capable of doing more advanced acrobatics due to his daggertail (blade chain thingy), and able to regenerate health by collecting sand, slowly loses health over time. In this area, sand pickups are few and far between, and the traps are many and dangerous. I can literally get within visual range of the final door out of the area before I either run out of health or am cut to pieces by the sawblades and spikes. I try to beat it occasionally but I've lost the will to do it and beat the game. Help.

You played through Mirrors Edge twice...

Sir, I applaud your patience and dedication to gaming because I would rather eat my own eyes than torture myself through that game again.

Wow. Bad memories. I was almost in tears at that part because I kept dying just before I got to the door... frustrating is an understatement. Keep trying though and you will get it eventually with a little patience and luck (I got past it twice by sheer luck)

You should be applauding the people that play the time trials. Talk about impossible...

Besides, I'm thinking about going back and getting the rest of the duffel bags. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, and I didn't hate the game THAT much.

Oh I actually thought that 70% of the game was great, and the outdoor roof running sections were utterly sublime, it was just that one or two difficulty spikes that made me want to tear my hair out.

But still... if they do a sequel and learn from thier mistakes it could be a true great

Halo Wars, Campaign level 6 or 7. It's the one where you need to protect the Rhinos. I can beat it, but it's like IMPOSSIBLE to get a Gold medal on Heroic. The covenant just gets all these free nearly fully upgraded units, I can't keep up!

Also, even though it's optional and I've never actually did it, I imagine the 50 million Yiazmat from FFXII will be a freaking pain. FIFTY MILLION HP.

Well I'm on summer holiday time, so I was re-playing a few of my older games. Going through God of War on easy is mad fun let me tell you.
Then I got to the Traps of Madness. Specifically, that bloody spike room. If you've played the game, you know the one. If you haven't let me explain.
This drove me nuts too. However that room was nothing compared to the penultimate level in that game... GODDAMN SPINNING SPIKE COLUMNS.

Fuck those spike columns...

*Shudders*
Not the Path of Hades! Not the PATH OF HADES!
On the first part, where you have to walk across these spinning logs with scythe blades poking out of them (did I mention the had a habit of suddenly stopping and then rotating in the opposite direction) I kept trying to look around for all the chests and red orbs. After falling off for the umpteenth time I soon had that foolishness knocked out of me <_<
Still I've finished number one now, time to move on to number II and remember what insta-frustrate moments there are in that
