When me and a friend discovered smogon.com it completely changed the way we played Pokemon. A couple months later you find yourself with a almost perfectly IV Breed, Move Breed and EV trained Team with a proper balance of Wall, Spinner, Sweeper and stealth rocks ect.

I personally find it incredibly fun, and when you start churning out your own builds things get really interesting.

Anyways I can't wait for Black & White ^_^
Smogon... /shudder

I'll stick with battling and winning with the Pokémon that I like, rather than the ones people say are "top percentage".

Meh, I can respect their devotion and the amount of effort they put into what they like. Shoddy Battle is a pretty damn cool little java program.

Also I dislike battling against people who use "Uber" pokemon so I guess you can say i've been converted, although i've disliked it since I was playing RBY though so i've just found like minded people.

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand what you mean, I'm just sick of seeing the same teams again and again. Same team, same movesets. Gets boring. And I play WoW, so I see the same character builds all over the place. I like to think that you can beat anyone with any team (within reason) if you try and train hard enough.

That cartoon couldn't be more accurate. There are even tournaments at my college that people use as fundraisers every now and then.

Seriously, can you imagine a game on par (story- and graphics-wise) with, say, Dragon Age or Elder Scrolls where you go around capturing, training, and fighting monsters. That would be an epic game.
there was a game on playstation called jade cocoon. it was pretty much this.
difference was that when you bred two monsters together, you got a literal hybrid, it even looked like what you would get when you merged the parents together.

i miss that game...

I have poke-rap stuck in my head now, not that I'm complaining, but the theme song made me think of it.

This thread now reminds me that I gotta finish Heartgold and get the rare pokemon from gamestop before Friday.

Oh god, that means I have to go where the people are for that.

I have to agree, Pokemon isn't just for kids. Sure it's rather kid friendly, with it's rather lighthearted stories and colorful creatures, but it can still be enjoyed by older people as well. I for one have started getting back into the whole thing thanks to my discovery of the idea of a Nuzlocke Run.

Problem is society (at least American society, can't speak for other nations) seems to think that once your "grow-up" you have to abandon all your old interests like Pokemon, fantasy, dinosaurs, or whatever. Of course they often fail to notice that many people who take an interest in sports or fashion picked up their interest as a kid.

Glad to hear that the developers of Black and White realized this older audience and put something in the games to appeal more to them. Makes me want to actually go out an buy it.

What Nintendo needs to do is make 2 completely different versions of Pokemon. One continues the current path of never-ending expansion and goofy stories, the other is an M-rated version with a cut-down (exclusive) Pokedex and a heavy weight on RPG elements (quests, moral dilemmas, etc.) along with full-on blood combat and maybe even online world connectivity sort of like the Test Drive Unlimited series.

Want Pokemon White very badly. Have to wait off though til I get enough time to play DA2 and save up enough money for a 3DS.

Yeah, well, that's one opinion. I, personally, felt I had outgrown it around the 4th grade.

To clarify, when I was in the 4th grade, I felt that I had outgrown it.

Digimon is way better anyway...

My friend and I discovered smogen as well, needlessly to say it was heart breaking when that perfectly trained and bred Garchomp was made uber...

I actually can't wait for this new one, I genuinely think it could be the best one ever. EVAH

"You mean a Little Jamacian Fella who plays Texas Hold Em?"

Ahh...Pokemon...how I will only remember you by your characters in any of the "Smash" games.

of course not. It's also for creepy old people and nostalgic 30 year olds.

But seriously, the game series is more "family friendly" than "for kids."

yeah, more news from the Polemon master, John Funk.

Aside from the battling, the online trading economy is rather convoluted as well. Why no, I don't happen to have a shiny Scizor with perfect IVs.
i used to have a shiny scizor with perfect ivs.
some kid hacked it and traded it to me for a wild (but legit) shiny shinx.

i never could bring myself to actually use it. it just felt wrong.
Sorry about that. It's why I mainly stay away from trading shinies and just trade items.

Anyways, I think Pokemon would be more appealing to older newcomers if you could just battle random people online instead of having to deal with the friend codes.

Well the game, at it's core, is a number cruncher. And after watching this, I think I'll finally give my friend the showdown he's been requesting for the last six years or so on Colours and Metals...

and a more in-depth story beyond "collect 8 badges, beat the Elite 4, stop whatever plan is being hatched by Team Badguys."

Really? REALLY!? MUST... GET... NOW!

I remember when I was small, I got my grandfather to play Pokemon Yellow while I played Red. It was awesome, I still remember chillin' in the living room playing with him and going "Oh hey, that's a geodude you just ran into, right?" He then looked at me from across the room with a look of utmost disbelief and went "You knew that from the sound?!?" I can still do that. It can be hard sometimes, but for the most part, I can recognize a 'mon by its cry.

Aw yeah, getting White when it comes out, baby. Snivy's gonna be my starter (usually I pick fire, but snaky-type pokemon are by far superior, I say!).

yes, I understood that part

what I didn't got was what the hell did you wrote afterwards

you know, that paragraph

besides, those "I'm gonna fuck your mom" kind of jokes just don't fly with me anymore, I mean, sure, go ahead and say them, I don't really particularly care =P
