I posted earlier about help getting some old games to run. Got me thinking about old games that might be cool to see remade.

The one I'm thinking of is CyberMage: Darklight Awakening. It had some pretty cool ideas for the time, like vehicles, crouching, and some in game mini games like gambling on fights. Innovative? Vehicles? What? Yeah, it was also 1995, so that stuff was pretty novel. It was definitely Doom-esque, but everything got compared to Doom back in the day.

With graphics and technology being what they are now, it might be a pretty cool game to be modernized and looked at again. Maybe a breath of almost fresh air. It didn't do well because the sys reqs were steep for the time, but I think it'd be great to see.

Anything anyone else would like to see brought back from the mists of obscurity?

It's not obscure, but Ocarina of Time could do with a revamp. Graphical overhaul obviously, but some plot and character problems polished out it could become so much better.

Oh, and I suppose I should mention that I liked Ocarina of Time but don't consider it anywhere near the best game ever

Any game released after 2000 should have a huge overhaul in where all the shittyness is extracted and launched to the moon and the holes from where the shittyness came should be filled up with originality, witty humour and FUN. Something most games strangely lack nowadays, which is weird because a game, according to the dictionary of modern english, is something built to amuse the participants and make them enjoy themselves, while most games now a day are about getting you interested enough to get to the end so you can return it to the store the next day because all games are somehow 4-6 hours long.

Because every game made after 2000 is automatically shit.

Wow, that's great logic.

Morrowind! :D
There is already a mod where you can play Morrowind in the Oblivion engine.
I know. I have Oblivion for the 360 so that doesn't work now does it.

Plus I'd like a complete remake and not just the Morrowind storyline in Oblivion, especially since there are a couple things in Oblivion that I would not like to see in Morrowind: Revamped, the dialogue being one of them.

Thanks for suggesting the alternative though :)

This would be wonderful.

If you were to re-make any part of The Wind Waker, change the pirate-ship jump tasks. They were right out of the difficulty curve and a much bigger turn off than sailing.

I will go to the death on the graphics and sailing. The graphics at least were honest with an expressive Link rather than the stuck-up-arse anachronism that is adult Link (Dude looks like a Lady ... who never looks like he feels anything). As for the sailing, well, it was no worse than walking on the overworld of any other similar genre of game

I'd love to see (as yahtzee once suggested) a remake of shadow of the colossus using cryengine2

You know, he's right. I haven't had any fun whatsoever in any of the games I've purchased since 2000. Not one single bit. I hate killing Baal, or playing Geometry Wars, or playing Halo or playing plastic guitar or anything. That was a very deeply insightful post, and if it weren't for you, I'd never have opened my eyes to the harsh light of reality.

Troll elsewhere, child.

Final Fantasy VII is another game that could do with character overhauls (Yes, I am brave enough to say so) I tried to play it and get into it since it's so highly regarded, but I gave up at the gay strip club or whatever the hell it was. We'd got Silent Protagonist One (Complete with idiot name), Generic Wet Blanket (Will fall in love with Silent Protagonist One) and Mr T with Minigun (Angry black guy with no human characteristics at all. Splendid).

I could tolerate anything else, but not bad characterisation across the board

Legacy of Kain : Soul Reaver

Since they closed off the series in 2004 - I think Soul Reaver would make a great remake if they would stick to the original conncept of it - since Soul Reaver was the game that had the most deleted material - if you know the games you'll know what I am talking about - in the original concept Raziel would have slain all of his brothers - a vampire priestess - after that Kain himself - and his last move would have annihilated the Vampire race from the world to save it - of course they couldn't continue the series that way that's why they changed it - but I believe this would be a great remake - a new graphics engine - ( the LoK games always had very high detailed graphics) - new combo's , new magic abilities, new weapons. new enemies, new and somewhat different level designs , harder bosses. The music the characters, their personalities, the atmosphere could all stay the same - and they would stick to the original story of Soul Reaver :)

Tha would really be a dream come true for me :)

I'd play a new Quest for Glory. It would need to retain the silly sense of humor, naturally-developing RPG stats, basis in real-world mythology, and charming, enchanted-feeling settings. I think it would do well to have a transfer to a more open-ended play style, though - maybe a bit more linear than an Elder Scrolls game, but the originals were really open-world games with very small worlds, limited by the technology that was available at the time.
