Games that you mentally declare non-canon.

And as utterly shameless as FFX-2 was, in spite of myself i cant help but feel happy that Yuna got her happy ending. Flame me if you wish, i'm willing to burn.
Let us stand together with with our flame shields at the ready, I felt the same way.

My list is; Halo 3 (and guessing the stuff after it wasn't that good either), The non-PS1 Spyro games, Dues Ex: Invisible war, Fable 2 and 3, and finally Skyrim.

As fun as World of Warcraft was, I never saw it as canon when you interacted with major story characters. Reviving Illidan for Burning Crusade was a stretch but since then its just gotten silly. I really hated the revival of Muradin in WotLK and Ragnaros in Cata.

If Max Payne 3 wasn't cancelled, I'd probably treat it as non-canon.

Everything in Final Fantasy VII universe except for Final Fantasy VII. That extends to all media, not only games (ok, Last Order was passable but that's the only exception).

Every God of War other than the original. They are still fun to play but storywise, they are plain terrible.
max payne 3 wasnt cancelled. actually, it was an amazing game, probably the best this year.

Oh... your one of them...

Anyhow, I haven't actually played this one but I won't because of what it does to the main character but Metroid Other M. I love Metroid, and to picture Samus as being a submissive and fragile character is something that goes against everything we have been lead to believe and I won't play the game based on that.

Another would be the new Spyro games. They aren't terrible but they just don't belong in the series. I don't even think they are supposed to be in the same universe but I could be wrong, its been a while since I've played them.

I want to say any game that boils down to "America saves the day" by sole virtue that they get to play hero too often, and other countries should get a turn. However, that would mark me quite firmly as a dickhead if that were my legitimate contribution to this thread.

No,the games that never happened are any non-Naughty Dog Jak and Daxter and any non-Naughty Dog Crash Bandicoot. Ladies and gentlemen, allow us a moment to mourn and weep for the lost.

I'd consider Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword non-canon but if you think about it, Zelda doesn't exactly have a canon. Actually, if you consider every Zelda game Wind Waker and onward non-canon, there's actually a competent, easy-to-follow timeline.
Believe it or not Nintendo released the official Zelda timeline a few months back. It's too complicated for me to remember, but you should Google it sometime.

Anyhow, I shall never consider sports games to be canon because the teams I choose to play as practically never win their respective championships in reality. (Slight sarcasm)

Prototype 2. I refuse to accept that Alex would do that. Yes, I heard about the comics, but I'm not believing they're canon. Prototype 2's story was just... Eh.

I'd have to go with Chrono Cross because it's ties to Chrono Trigger were terrible in my opinion. Almost forgot to include the Jak and Daxter games not designed by Nuaghty Dog.

Also, Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. I'm sorry, but that was an unrelated game just reskinned for the IP-power. I refuse to believe it's part of the actual series, and it's instead some 'alternate reality' spinoff.
Well, you gotta admit, the vehicle building itself was very well done. Let me just ask you this. If they put the vehicle building in a new IP, would you be half as mad about it?
Not at all. I'm sure it's a solid game on it's own, and I did like the art style, but if it's making itself out as a Banjo Kazooie game, it's going to be judged on the merits of being a Banjo Kazooie game.

They should have gone with a new IP. The 'Banjo Kazooie' side struck me as a gimmick tacked on to an unrelated game, so obviously I didn't get the experience that's key to the series. That's why I choose to consider it non-canon - it may not be a horrible game, but it's certainly not a Banjo Kazooie game, least of all from the main series.

I'm with you.
I tried the game and about 1 hour in I can already see I will be dumping this one into non-canon zone. Alex is pretty much forced into bad guy role and Heller is like someone at radical just tried to make a stereotype live and breathe. Using words like ************ and ***** every third sentence...

Well, points for radical for making the games' story even more worse than I feared I guess

actually, on the homeworld bit(didnt quote because the quote would have been annoyingly long)

one of the missions in homeworld:cataclysm has,you stop the bentusi from fleeing to another galaxy, where their enemies here would not be able to follow them

i'm pretty sure i understood it right in that only the bentusi could make that gate between the galaxies, which was destroyed, only AFTER a few bentusi MOTHERSHIPS escape through

the entire rest of the games happens in one galaxy with no word of whatever happens to those ships that escaped into a different galaxy

thus i consider the "extinct bentusi" to be a mistake in the game story.

it was impossible to stop them before some motherships escape, and then impossible to know what happened to those after they escaped

thus we kind of cant confirm them extinct

also i found that bit of the homeworld 2 story to be very badly written, you meet them with a problem, and they, in minutes seemingly, decide that there is no other option, they dont try anything or say anything, just, "oh, here's a horrible enemy our current weapons dont work on, it cant quite wipe us out in the the next few hours, but clearly we must now suicide the remains of our race as our first attempt at stopping that enemy ASAP"

am i the only one that found that story bit a desperate reach for drama, that just didnt make sence

i could tank that keeper thing easily, it was just incredibly annoying, what was the desperation and rush for?

Oh god this. I admit its nice that they actually made a game you can play co-op without needing xbox live (holy shit people still do that) but it really should have been a different game, perhaps a spinoff. Definitely not part of the main story.

Na, most of what they seem to hate is the game mechanics; canon tends to refer for to lore and story

I don't uerstand everyon's problem with Raiden. He's not whiny, he's just a novice. He's also not Solid Snake. I think too many of us went into MGS2 expecting to either play as Snake or another badass like Snake, and so we were disappointed.
I went into MGS2 without playing the first one, and still felt like Raiden was a whiny little *****. I don't get how he even got into military unit.

The gameplay and graphics were improved on. At least we got that, but that doesn't mean bull to me. Liked the music though. Heller's swearing was awful. I mean, I don't have any problems with swearing, but that was... Eh. Alex just seemed... Like you said, forced. There's not much else to describe him.

I quite enjoyed the story of the original game. I like the idea of sentient viruses like Alex.

I feel your pain. >_<

I mean, by itself Fff-three-aaaaarrr (I cannot resist calling it that) isn't that bad of a game and is fairly fun in and of itself. But compared to the first two, it just... ughh!

I mean, outside of the obvious gameplay elements, the plot is just... what? I mean, where the hell was the Point Man imprisoned at the beginning? How in the hell did he get captured in the first place? Why does Fettel look younger than he should? Why exactly is he helping the Point Man anyway? Who the hell are all these "cultists"? Why are Replica soldiers fighting alongside Armacham troops? Why is the Point Man taunted as being a failure when the little blurb of speech after the first game had Aristide claiming he was a complete success? Come on, game, explain yourself! EXPLAIN YOURSELF!!

I don't care what anyone says, Fff-three-aaaarr is not a F.E.A.R. game, dammit!! It never will be!

Agreed. The gameplay and graphics were much better in prototype 2, monsters/crowds had more models, fighting delightfully visceral, etc. It is because of the fact that all these things were so good, that the pancake of story stings so much.

And having the protagonist be something other than ye old cardboard cut-out hero in the orginal game was very much refreshing. And then we get back to norm in P2. Et tu, Radical?

Myst V: End of Ages.

While not being that bad, it pretty much only ties in to the spin-off URU and should never have been set in the main series at all.

Speaking of which, I only barely consider URU canon. Mostly for the fact that it let me explore D'ni (which is awesome).
