This is petty, I know but I've bumped into several games over the last few years that based on their history I've flat out refused to buy. I'm deathly afraid that contributing to these games in the slightest could cause another atrocious sequal or series disfiguration in the future.

For instance:

I haven't bought Assassin's Creed: Revelations and I don't ever plan on it. Its sad watching a series that could go anywhere ANYWHERE with such a good start fall to the trap of yearly game making and overusing the same two protagonist. Assassin's Creed II is one of my favorite games of all time and if Ubisoft finally drops Altair and Ezio (off the face of the flat earth) I'll consider it. But as of now Assassin's Creed is dead to me. So maybe if I don't buy AC:R maybe some other people won't either and Ubisoft will get the hint and go back to making better, less thoughtless games.

Any Call of Duty after Modern Warfare 1. I've played a few of the more recent ones. But $15 map packs, really? Call of Duty Elite? Yearly unimprovements? And how many dlc packs did you say you were going to release for MW:3? Plus its not like they need my help with sales anyway.

I may rent the next Fable (not getting the kinect only one) but Lionhead really lost me after Fable 3. Trying to appeal to everyone, more specifically kids (which is odd because you're rated M) made me reconsider our relationship. You'd have to do a lot more next time to impress me, Molyneux.

And DM[sub][sub]motherfucking[/sub][/sub]C
Simply because it's not Dante. Seriously, he's an alternate reality clone or something! Not to mention the emo haircut, he smokes and he doesn't even sound or act like him. The gameplay does look pretty good and pretty but thats all they're getting out of me. Buy the HD remakes. You'll enjoy them much more than this poor excuse for a sequal reboot prequal alternate universe outsourcing of a mess.

These are just some of the more recent ones and I don't think I'll change anything by not participating but hell, I can try.

TL;DR
Has anybody else been so traumatized by a game in the past that you've flat out refused to indulge the devs by buying any future games?
Take it from someone who played it, Altair barely features. And that is probably the last you will see to both of them, youknow...

Since Ezio was done dead in that movie thing and Altair died in the game and the Ezio retired in the game

I think it was a nice addition, they had some cool features. And your opinion seems something that came out of ZP and you judging the game by its trailer even though Deus Ex - Human Revolution. Should have taught you that we sadly lost that ability with the 3-a games.A long, long. Time ago.
Well they did say that's the last we'll either see or play of Ezio and Altair so at most a flashback or something.

I second boycotting the next DMC, ther developers don't even like the series (blaming it for poor sales of one of their own games) and I know enough emos in real life to not need another one, not to mention how they're butchering Dante.

There are no games I refuse to buy out of protest - If it's enjoyable and well-made, I'll buy it.

You guys may not like Modern Warfare 3 because of COD Elite or the map packs, but it has great single-player and co-op and a refined and still very fun multiplayer. In fact, I don't even hate Activision for those map packs, because as a big company it is their goal to make money, and those map packs and COD Elite have made them millions.

I find boycotting games out of principle to be petty and low. My choices in games have nothing to do with the ethics of the publisher, and all to do with how much I like the game.

Funny, I just wrote an editorial for my high school news paper saying basically the same thing, but I still played Revelations, and after seeing it's ending I can guarantee to you that we won't be seeing any more of Ezio or Altair, however we will probably be seeing much much more of Desmond in the next game. And I couldn't agree more with that bit about annual release schedules, if a AAA game takes less than 2 years of dev time, it's being rushed, and that's never good.

OT: I will never, ever, ever, ever, eeeeeeeever buy any EA published game again new. Between the online passes, the DRM, the horrible ad campaigns, the annual sports games, and fucking Origin, I've been given a loooooooot of things to hate EA for. Their support of SOPA was the straw that locked my wallet from them FOREVER.
(Yes, I know Nintendo and Sony also support SOPA, but the big N has been let off with a warning because of all my fond memories, and it's actually Sony music that's supporting SOPA so the gaming division is off the hook.)
Yes, it will be painful to have to wait on Mass Effect 3 until I can find it used, but I want to MAKE SURE that not ONE CENT of my money is going to those loathsome, worthless, fat cats running EA.

So Assassin's Creed shouldn't recycle their progangonists...but Devil May Cry should?....
Oh my god, you are so right! All games should fall under the same formula and storytelling standards.
I don't know why it wasn't so obvious before. Face palm indeed!
All righty then, kindly elaborate for me, if you loved Ezio so much, why should he go and why should Dante stay? Kindly explain, I'm all ears.
Ezio was alright. He started off as kind of annoying but he had a full character arc and AC:2 ended Ezio pretty well, I thought. They really didn't need to bring him back for 2 more games. The biggest problem is that Ubi could take the francise anywhere in history but fell into the "release a new games every year" trap. Also there was a large improvement (gameplaywise) from AC to AC:2 but both the games since then have made little to no improvement.

And DMC... Fuck. I could go on for paragraphs about whats wrong with it. But I'm just going to leave these here instead>

Thats just a little of it

But for all I know DMC could be the best Devil May Cry yet. The thing is that Devil May Cry (except for 4 and arguably 2) games are some of the most fun I've ever had. While I play most games for the story, multiplayer or other entertaining features Devil May Cry was just straight up fun to play. I don't enjoy seeing a third party change almost all (the gameplay does look better) of what made Devil May Cry such fun and I am damned opposed to it.

So is there a difference between Assassin's Creed and Devil May Cry?

Why yes, yes there is.
Just my two cents on Assassin's Creed; being a huge plot whore for it ha ha :p .....after completing all of them up til and including Revelations, it felt to me like you could pretty well skip Brotherhood, and not miss a huge deal in a narrative sense, but that it is worth seeing Revelations through....I Agree with you that making a new time period and area would have been cool, and while I don't like to cynically say that Ubi wanted to release a game a year until the plot point in 2012 could coincide with it in real life; I prefer to look at it more positively...Ezio and Altair (who probably needed it more) ended up with plot arcs that came together and concluded very satisfactorily for me; it changed my view from the series being about the spectacle of the setting to focusing more on it being the story of these three people linked together. Alright, so Desmond is rather flat, but Ass Creed 3 is supposed to help him, so I'll reserve judgment. But as for Ezio and Altair....I was actually quite sad and moved when I saw the ends of their stories, Ezio's in particular. And finally, Istanbul is a nice enough change from Italy in 2 and Brotherhood to keep me interested, Rome after Italy was a bit too much :)

Modern Warfare 3 for charging full price for something that used to be called an expansion pack. I'm keeping Dead Space 2 and Assassins Creed to rentals for asking us to make u play/ea accounts and give them extra money for features that really should just be free updates for how little they add or how necessary to the game they are (needing to activate multiplayer is bs).
Pretty much this for said reasons; though I don't rent - I just buy dirt-cheap or second hand.
Fable 3? Second hand.
Dead Space 2? Dirt Cheap, never played the first.
AC:R? Dirt Cheap.
Call of Duty? I don't find it delivers its value, halved. I'm never going to buy it if future instalments continue to follow this pattern I'm seeing - what I remember as being an Expansion Pack or a Budget game, too, is now it seems worthy of a price more than any other game in the market. What's sad is that I think people think it's worth it. But hey, all I can do is not buy it myself; just not worth it at all in my eyes. My very own brother is one of those.

Dont really see the point of "protesting" because of a certain publisher or developer. Your missing out on some good games if you "refuse to buy anything from EA because they are evil!!" I do understand not buying a game because of it being a rehash of the previous years game (im looking at you madden). I wont buy a game like that because it could easily be a roster update or patch. Am I going to complain and try to get other people from buying it? No. Am I going to flat out refuse to play it because of a perceived slight at using "the same character as last time"? No. I will rent/borrow it, or wait until its on sale or in the bargin bin.

It has to be Madden or sports games in general. Costing 60 a pop for roster changes and a add on feature they removed a few years ago that is put back in the game seems pointless. How they get away charging $60 a year is beyond me.

I refuse to buy any Call of Duty Games. Yet people keep buying them for me. Argh.

And Assassin's Creed Revelations wasn't too bad. Didn't do as much for me as Brotherhood did, but still good. Why not give it a second chance?

Anything from Ubisoft... an Exclusive titles... I think they're just huge dick move on the part of... well everyone involved... it's a greedy attempt to capitalize on a players patriotism for there console... though I hardly hold indie devs responsible if their game never makes it past XBLA or something...<.<

Though porting titles afterwards are a bit of a different story...<.<

Anything released by Ubisoft is a no-buy for me. Not because that its made by them precisely, but rather that no Series of theirs actually interests me. The only AC i played was the first one and that didnt exactly leave me wanting more of the same, which from what i have seen is basicly what happens, except you get a new Dude to play and some new gimmicks. The Series doesnt innovate as much as the first one did and in terms of story its not really doing a bang-up job of explaining everything and connecting loose ends. Dont want to have to buy basicly 3 Games..or is it 4 now? to get through basicly the "Second Installment" of the Series.

Add to that no other Series of theirs picks my interest and their draconian DRM Method, seriously why cant we go back to the Days of CD Keys? Or those Codewheels from Monkey Island? Or just a one-time activation over the net. And of course, their behaviour to see me as a Criminal rather than a Customer, although that goes for a bunch of Publishers at this point.

Same for EA at this Point, once they make Origin optional im good, but as long as its mandatory i will refuse to buy Games that require it outright. Hell i will refuse to buy Games that have intrusive DRM period.

At the moment I can't think of a singular company who I refuse to buy from...until just now when I remember the Catwoman bait-and-switch and absurd amount of day-1 DLC. I heard a rumor that a few of the character skins are on-disc. I don't have a source and don't know if it's true but the way they flaunted Catwoman as being a big piece of the main game only to seal her away behind an activation code. It doesn't matter that I planned on buying new, I can't have any DLC when I can't get onto Xbox Live to unlock it. I'm also considering buying Mass Effect 3 used because of the people being negatively affected by Origin. I'm not a PC player but I was effected by Cerberus Net in ME2 and wasn't pleased that I (still) can't have a character without Xbox Live and a $20 fee.

This reminds me nothing by Harmonix, new or used because they allowed Rock Band: Japan to die. I know, I know people stopped caring about the genre due to over-saturation and an over-reliance on DLC to squeeze as much money out of people as possible but I still would have spent my life savings on Rock Band Japan and every bit of DLC I potentially could have like Uplift Spice, X and, Maximum the Hormone.

i refuse to buy Battlefield 3 on PC because this idea of a browser based server thing to get into games has to be one of the shittest ideas of all time.
