Sterotypical date cost

Two movie tickets: $14
snacks: $5
Dinner for two:$20
total cost for 'tradional date': $39

Used Copy of Black Ops: $45

See, a GF is cheaper even if she dosen't pitch in. besides, you can't make out with black ops... and even if you could it would give you an std anyway.
You either haven't been on a date since 1985 or you only go out on "Cheap Tuesdays" and take her to Burger King (Home of the Whopper!).

Thats about how much it costs in the mid-western portion of the United States, assuming you take her to a resonably priced sit down resturant.

About the ad: the funniest thing is that she didn't get the joke. Blonde?

They are not being serious! It is a joke... maybe not a good one, but a joke none the less. Some of my favorite comedians have made rediculous jokes that I could take offensive, but it's a joke, so I laugh it off. If it did offend me enough, I just wouldn't watch them. But if you are seriously offended by this simple joke, it seems like you have some insecurities that need to be worked out.
well that's like justifying fried chicken jokes towards black people. It's not an excuse at all
As long as they aren't done in bad taste, I don't see the problem.

Wait, who let that female employee out of the kitchen long enought to file a complaint? I damn well believe someone should be fired over this; The manager for not making sure she stays where she belongs

n1gaf, it's funny how much people see in a harmless juvenile ad.
See, I wasn't overly worked up about the ad...other than recognizing that with external media people need to realize that intent of a message is not actually contected to interpretation of that same message. What got me was all the ridiculously mysoginistic man-child responses to it. Unfortunately this isn't anything new, near as I can tell...I remember plenty of guys when I was young who seemed to hide their terror of growing up and the opposite sex behind a continuous barrage of mysoginistic posturing. Really funny in retrospect, except for the fact that too many of those guys I knew never really grew up...still lead shallow, sad lives riddled with fear and contempt.
You could use those words to describe people that don't act like adolescents too btw.

Sometimes, the truth (girlfriends can be very expensive) hurts, doesn't it?

At least, that's what I got from it. CoD: BOPs is only $30, whereas most dates end up in at least the $50-70 range. That is, if they are really picky about what/where you get them/take them.

I see nothing wrong with this.

"It is pretty openly sexist - girls being cheap, obviously, but it's also pandering to the old stereotype that gamers are guys,"

Lesbians can have girlfriends too. It is advertising though and it tries to appeal to as many people as possible but it can't appeal to everyone. That is why they chose to taget males with cheap girlfriends. It isn't necesarrily saying that every women with a boyfriend is cheap and it doesn't say what "cheap" even means in this context. You are the one trying to make it sound offensive.

I'm surprised to see so many 'It means girlfriends are expensive' comments. To me, "Cheap-er" means 'more cheap', implying that 'your girlfriend is cheap, but this is cheaper'.

Of course, even the implication that a girlfriend is expensive is a bit nasty. Unless it's appealing to the demographic of gamer males who can't get a girlfriend without forking over some money...

In which case, everyone has been equally insulted. Problem solved.

The stupidest ad I've seen since "Dead Space 2 your mother hates it".
Good job Gamestation...
To be fair, this advert isn't actually all that bad.

So let me get this straight, women worldwide are allowed to openly make jokes about men being pigs, only thinking with their dicks and being from Mars but we guys aren't allowed a little joke at their expense?

This isn't even remotely sexist or mysoginistic, you wanna know how you would make it sexist?

'Call of Duty: Black Ops- now you have something to do while she makes you a goddamn sandwich' (even that's a possibly).

Methinks that this is just a case of some people needing to get off their high horses and develop a sense of humour.

EDIT: To the people who are wondering why the advert is more aimed at men than women, who is more likely to buy Call of Duty: Black Ops?

Men.

Men are more likely to have a girlfriend than a boyfriend and all of this is just a harmless little joke that someone clearly took personally.
It's not that I think it's sexist, I just think it's stupid, I wouldn't have cared if it was actually funny, but sadly it's not.

You know, I can't help but laugh at the fact that everyone is fine with this, but the moment someone posts that thread about the joke-book titled "What A Man Thinks About Other Than Sex" that was completely blank, the majority of this site is spitting fire and claiming sexism to men left and right.

Clearly sexism is okay, as long as it's not your gender that it's the focus of. Hilarious.

I also suspect my mom will really hate this ad, right? Seriously, immaturity doesn't automatically mean humor, videogame industry and Dane Cook.

There are a few things that make me very angry here.

It bothers me that the ad implies that girlfriends are expensive. Like there's a dollar amount on the time I spend with my fiance or my love for him. I find my time with my fiance to be more valuable to me then any money thank you very freaking much. And any way it's sexist to imply that to get a girl you have to spend money on her, as if you're buying your time in bed with her or the love she has for you. That is ridiculous and very hurtful to women in general. It's hateful and ugly even.

It also bothers me that they imply in the ad that all gamers are guys and they defend that stereo type in their defence of the ad. She is right when she says it's as if they think women SHOULDN'T be walking into their stores? The game stores that I walk into are always really happy when I walk in, and you know why? I am a gamer. I come there to buy games and their accessories and such and I spend my money there. How can any one feel good about them selves knowing they shop at a store that is so hateful as to imply women aren't wanted in their stores as if women aren't good enough for their stores. If they feel that way then it's not the case that women aren't good enough for their stores. It's that their stores aren't good enough for women. You know why their customers are mostly male? Because they make women feel uncomfortable and unwelcome walking into their stores. That's why.

I am also very much bothered by the "Chicks, eh?" at the end of this article. That is a sexist comment made by the author of this article. It reflects poorly on the author and on this forum. I am not bothered by the ads and the defence of the ads and this article because I am a woman. I am bothered because it is full of ugly discrimination and hate. The fact that my reproductive organs are on the inside has nothing to do with it. This is a sad and sorry thing to see so soon after International Women's Day on March 8th.

We are better then this. We all are. And saying that this is just a joke doesn't make it okay. It's still ugly and hateful. If the word "girlfriend" was replaced by "black friend" that would be racist and not okay with any one. It would make every one very angry, and rightfully so, even if it was meant as a joke. So why is it okay as "girlfriend"? Why is it not okay to be hateful toward some one because of the colour of their skin but it is okay to be hateful toward some one because of their gender?

This ad, the defence of it, and this article, and many of the comments here on this article, are sexist and hurtful and hateful and we all deserve better then this.

im sorry i have to say something here ive been in 4 relationships in my life and all of them wanted gifts and cash. and none of them wouldnt do anything with me unless i did give them crap. and they werent paris hilton/kim kardashian expys they were girl gamers. hell theyd just run off with some rich pretty boy. one girl whom i had everyting in common with refused to date me because "i look like a rapist". the point is, dont act like no girl dosent want money/gifts. cause they do. i think you need to look at this from a guys perspective, guy finally gets a relationship after years of rejection, get told that if he dosent give her money/gifts, shell leave him. and he already has difficulty getting a girl so hes got no choice.

So? It's just a bit of smack talk. Happens all the time. Though I have to agree it enforces untrue stereotypes; It implies falsley that Gamers can get Girlfriends (Kidding!)

I am sorry that that has been your experience. Just because you have had this trouble does not mean ALL girls give this trouble. You want to know the flip side of your trouble? Those girls spent their lives around boys who did nothing but stare at their boobs and make jokes that objectified them. Their relationships are full of men who only want to sleep with them and don't give a flying fart what they think or how they feel or who they really are. If the women in your life wouldn't give you sex because you didn't buy them dinner, well maybe you should stop looking at women as a source of sex and start looking at them as human beings. I am not saying women don't want gifts. In fact, you know what? Some men want gifts too. Don't go saying all women want this or that, because not ALL of us do.

If I have to think about this from a "guy's" perspective then you most definitely have to think about it from a girl's. The stereo type that all guys are gamers can make girls feel like we are not allowed to be gamers. The implication that all girls want gifts before they will sleep with you makes us all sound like prostitutes and it assumes sex is a commodity to be traded for, which it is not. The implication that all girls want gifts before they will do anything for you also implies that we are some kind of automaton that if you press the right buttons and plug in the right cords and put in enough tokens we will be "playable" which is hurtful and hateful and does not see women as the HUMAN BEINGS that we are.

I have carried my fiance for 3 years, working my bones off at a hellish job where I am treated like crap all day so he could chase his dream and not bring in enough money to pay his half of our rent. I haven't left him because he hasn't given me gifts. I haven't left him because he hasn't even held up his half of our life together. I haven't left him at all. I don't need gifts to love him. I don't need gifts to sleep with him. I don't need gifts to think he loves me too. If I don't need these things or want these things I can guarantee you other women don't either.

I don't need to see things through different eyes. You do.

Well, you struck me as creepy as hell just from a forum post, so I can only imagine what kind of vibe you give off in person. Though truthfully, you really ought to evaluate the type of women you're pursuing, if these are your experiences.

2. what do you mean "type of women" if im going after gamer girls?
