Gamestop: What do YOU think?

Well, as we are all more then likely aware of, Gamestop does and has had some nasty notoriety for some time. They were known for using some semi-legal business practices and at times being generally shit. Some have gone as far to make things like Zero Originality that attack it directly.

So here's a thread that hasn't been done (as far as I know, or at least hasn't been flogged to death). What do YOU think of Gamestop? Do you shop there? Do you think they suck? Are you a loyal Edge Card carrying shopper? Let's hear it.

Personally I find better deals on eBay, and I know people who work there and they all hate it and because of what they pull I generally don't shop there. I'd like to hear the thoughts of others though.

EDIT: Could a mod move this? I seem to have created it in the Gaming Discussion section on accident.

Of course I shop there, it's the closest video game retail to my house.

If people hate how the employees act keep in mind that it is THEIR JOB to annoy you with new pre-order deals.

I like it as long as they don't tell me to buy a PS3 with my Xbox 360 games.
Too bad that happens every time I go there.

Apparently there was a Gamestop store in the town (city) across the water from me...
I think I remember it existing, but I never went in there, I always went to GAME for its superior service...

The employees are people so depending on the store you go to, you can get good ones or bad ones. Operating the stores like pawn shops is a little annoying.

I thought we wouldn't have any Gamestops here in the United K, but I found one a few weeks back. Not too bad, I have to say, but I prefer Gamestation any day.

The Gamestop stores by my house seem to be fine. I haven't run in to any problems so far that was their fault, and the employees are awesome. But that could just be the stores around here :)

Well, apparently it was where CEX now is, before the furniture store.
I think that is what I was told, anyway.

I do not buy at Gamestop

Not for the regular reasons. But because the way it is fucking over the gaming community. Instead of creating a Haven for gamers, they created a thrift shop to pawn money

The few times I shopped there in the past (Any one of their stores), I see the way Employees treat the Kids who go there to very often just chill and talk about games (Gamestop nerds as they're called). Shrugging them off, telling them to leave, ect. That kind of attitude combined with the sales tactics create a hostile environment for gamers. If they would make the place a nicer place to go, to buy games and have a discussion about them, I would have been a happy camper.

So I no longer go there

I think I'm one of the lucky few. All the GameStops I've been to have had great clerks, and I can almost always find something I want or need there.

Unless I need something ultra rare. Then I would go to the local indie store Power Gamer for my gaming needs.

yes, I have an EDGE card, but that's because it is the closest place to my house and I know the manager as a friend. it really isn't that bad if you get a good one, even if they are rare.

the gamestop close to where i live sucks, they charge way to much for games, i can buy them online for 20% less, even the used games are incredibly expensive, they still charge 20 bucks for games i bought for 15 3 years ago.

only time ive bought anything there was when they had a deal 'trade in your wii for an xbox elite' i got rid of one dust collector for an better dust collector and it costs me 1 dollar (sold some other wii games).

I always buy from GAME, so much better service then Gamestop, oh and a little note that Gamestation is owned and operated by GAME.

I like my local Gamestop, the people working there are nice and know what they're talking about. Don't shop from them all that much though as they're somewhat expensive. I mostly buy games online.

I was just there today picking up a copy of Dragon Age: Origins.

Yes, the staff ask too many damn questions about pre-orders/cards/subscriptions but it's their job. I normally tell them up front that I'm not interested in anything other than the game and they usually take the hint and save their breath.

The prices are usually a good bit higher than everywhere else anywhere from £5-£20 more money for the exact same game.

If i have the time and am willing to wait a few days for it to arrive id buy games off play.com because they are usually always cheaper than stores. But if i do not have time then its GAME for me. gamestop is a last resort

Apparently they do that because that is how their actual performance is measured and it can mean getting fired or getting promoted.
