They are neutral to me. I mostly buy my games off of Steam, but if I must, I am going to pre-order Bad Company 2 through them just to get "Early Access to the AK-74U". I wouldn't order through them if I didn't get the weapon.

I just found out a few days ago that Gamestop doesn't ship to my location, so because I was denied the Terminus Armour and Black Hole Gun, they F***ing suck.

Never been to a store before, but based on what posters here say, I wouldn't like it.

Yes, it sucks that what they do, but if I didn't shop there, I'd have to go a lot farther to get games. I also own an Edge card, but only because I have a subscription to Gameinformer.

Game Stop is basically all we have in the U.S.A.

Everything else is just stores that happen to sell video games. Not a pure video game store like Game Stop.

Sure they can get annoying, but when your a monopoly you can do whatever you want haha

I don't have any problem with the gamestop by my house. The employees are nice and good at there job, I can usually get good deals on the things that I want, and all the games I've bought there have worked. So I can't really complain.

I only go there if I can't find a game anywhere else. They're great because they have everything, but I hate the fact that they harass you about preorders and insurance and whatnot (I know it's they're job, I know it's not the cashier's fault, doesn't make it less annoying).

And I don't trade my games there so I have no problems in that area either.

It is the closest game store to me, so I shop there. I have honestly had no problems there and have never had anything bad happen to me, so I have nothing against it.

Gamestop's quality really depends on where it is and who is working there.
Alot of the employee mistreatment from Zero Originality has changed, I experienced a lot of it when I worked there years ago, but the people I know there say its gotten better.
But back to my original statement. Gamestop really does look around it and bases their business on what other stores are around them? Are they in a mall with a bestbuy, target, walmart, or another retailer around? They most likely wont keep their used prices high. Or they'll make sure to hold random things like Buy 2 get 1 Free. Also if you're in a somewhat populated place with customers going in and out it is really hard to have a decent conversation with people and even then there are a lot of people who would always come in just to talk and never buy anything. Its like yea, I understand maybe 1 out of 4 or 5 times you come in and buy something but there were always like 13 or 14 year olds who would come in and want to talk about halo for hours and the 2 years I worked at game stop I never saw them buy a single thing.

To address some of the other criticisms, gamestop was kind of forced to employee its bastardized tactics because business just failed by trying to wholeheartedly cater to the customer. Back in the day when it was stores like Funcoland or Babbadges where they let you play games there and hang out, business wasn't that great, hell they tanked pretty hard. They had tones of store closings and useless stock. They saw that other stores like Toys R Us, Best Buy, etc sold games and made just as much money without having to deal with all the hassle of catering to the customer.

The same with giving almost nothing for used games, have you seen how many used game there are that never get sold? I remember we had boxes of games in the back of used games that just would never sell. And in the end they throw all those games into a bargain bin that usually sit there and rot until eventually they were boxed and sent to god knows where. This is a loss for the company. It would be great if a store could sell a used game and then make a guaranteed small profit off some one else who would buy it.

That said I rarely go to gamestop anymore, I mostly surf the net for deals on games, but if I'm forced to go to my local mall to find a copy of a game it really doesn't usually matter where I get it, target, walmart, bestbuy, gamestop, they're all the same. They are stores, nothing more nothing less to me.

I work at Gamestop... and I hate to tell you, but we are Required to ask about hte edge card on every single new person that walks through the door. I don't know where some of you are but... we haven't got any problems with people who like to actually talk and ask about the games in question... in my case I get to have a good conversation with at least a semi-knowledgable person about things I too enjoy. If they don't know everything, well its my job to teach them... and well, if I've seen them before I don't have to hound them.

I'll preorder and buy my games there unless some other place has better deals. Will I ever trade in my games there again? Hell no.

I would never trade in my games with them or buy used games from them because ebay is much better for that, but if I plan to get a game at launch I usually preorder it from them.

I'm technicaly a "loyal edge card member" i guess. i have an Edge card and i shop their if i want to get a game, why, because there's one less then a mile away from me. So i got an Edge card because it makes the deals a bit better. Plain and simple.

I was just there today picking up a copy of Dragon Age: Origins.

Yes, the staff ask too many damn questions about pre-orders/cards/subscriptions but it's their job. I normally tell them up front that I'm not interested in anything other than the game and they usually take the hint and save their breath.
Apparently they do that because that is how their actual performance is measured and it can mean getting fired or getting promoted.
This is what I meant about being generally shit(ty).

I used to work for them, and their job is to hound you about opening a subscription (Edge card) and/or pre orders. I got into trouble for NOT hounding customers.

Overall some of their stores have good employees while the one I worked at sucks goat testicles. I haven't stepped foot in it since I quit working for them, but I do go to other Gamestops in the area from time to time.

Usually, though, I buy games on Steam or D2D.

it's either that or buying games from Tesco, because I don't have a credit-card. Or Extravision. Plus the staff are quite nice. And I only get morally outraged when it suits my purposes.

I prefer GAME, but I don't mind Gamestop. I get most of my games off Steam now, it's a bit more expensive, but more convenient.
Yeah i'm the same, except that compared to the gamestop where i live steam is usually cheaper.

I'll admit I'm somewhat biased against GameStop because I dated someone who worked there and he wound up being a douche. BUT, I didn't even like it that much in the first place.

I shop there because that's the only game store near me, for the most part, other than Best Buy and Target. Unfortunately, they're usually somewhat disorganized, the employees never seem to really know anything about... well, anything, and the games are rather expensive.

I do shop there from time to time for second hand games but they are very very very in the dark when it comes to any real gaming news well some employees are I can't speak for all. I mentioned the MW2 boycott there and no one had even heard about it and this was around the month it happened which was very big news at the time.

When it comes to shopping for games, I always get them at Gamestop, they cut down prices of games like you wouldn't believe, and they know about the games they sell, which is good if you're uncertain on what games you want.

the only problem I have with Gamestop is that they (mostly) require you to have a state-issued ID to trade in games to get games, and you'd need it also to buy M-rated games, which makes it an annoying requirment that I need to bring my dad with his driver's license to be able to buy M-rated games with my own money, he doen't mind that much, 'cause it doesn't take that long to get games for us at Gamestop, or anywhere.
