I have three gamestops near my house, one has horrible employees, another has alright people, and the people at the third one are awesome. I just go there, or buy games on steam, seeing as gamestop is my only local retailer, besides wal-mart. But If i do i go to the third gamestop.

it is very up in your face about games, like what you should buy and tries to sell you useless magazine subscriptions example: gamestop employee "oh you're looking for a copy of (insert game title here) well never mind that take this copy of fall out 3 that has been out for years and still costs 70 bucks here!" me "I don't want fall out 3 i want a GOOD GAME!" GS Employee "Here I'll just charge you for the dlc too and the game. would you like a magazine subscription to game informer?" me- "NO! I'M GOING TO BEST BUY!" 1 month later in the mail... me-"AAAAAHHH!"

I do shop there from time to time for second hand games but they are very very very in the dark when it comes to any real gaming news well some employees are I can't speak for all. I mentioned the MW2 boycott there and no one had even heard about it and this was around the month it happened which was very big news at the time.
That's why I like the third gamestop I mentioned because their actually real gamers who work their and they know whats going on.

Gamestop? Pretty much permanently landed on my "do not buy" list when they started that whole "new game" being a game disc that the employees had in the back room crap. Final straw was when their idiot constantly hounded me to "preorder Halo 3"...when I was buying Europa Universalis 3, a PC game that couldn't be less like Halo if it tried.

Never mind that you can't find PC games at Gamestop anymore and even if you could, it's been obsoleted by Steam...

I thought we wouldn't have any Gamestops here in the United K, but I found one a few weeks back. Not too bad, I have to say, but I prefer Gamestation any day.
Exactly this. The first Gamestop I saw was in Koln, Germany. I so badly wanted to go in, but apparently the christmas markets were the priority. I was so pissed. I always shop at GameStation, unfortunately, my mum always gets things from GAME. I feel like I traitor to myself when I see those big purple lables.

The prices are good? What have you been smoking and why aren't you sharing? I've seen Walmart sell certain new games for less than Gamestop is selling that same game used. And that's all it really comes down to for me...Gamestop is FAR too expensive, for both games and accessories. We have a store here called Entertainmart where you can get just about anything for 40% of the cost of Gamestop. Even newly-released Xbox 360 games you can get there at $45 or so.

Which reminds me of the other problem with Gamestop. Trade-in rates are freaking ridiculous there. Entertainmart will take a newly-released game in on trade for $35-$45 depending on the game. Gamestop will give you a maximum of $25 for just about anything...more often they'll give you less than $10. They're a bunch of greedy bastards.
First thing's first, the retail value for Xbox 360 games is $60. I don't care what major retailer you look at; if it's $60 at Gamestop, it's $60 everywhere else.

Secondly, the trade in values. Yes, I'll admit they suck and as an employee there I'll advise people of it. However, nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to sell your games to us, nor are you obligated to get money back for a video game you purchased.

Personally, I like Gamestop a lot. The employees I've met, including those I work with, are very polite and knowledgeable. Yes, the badgering for the EDGE card and whatnot gets annoying but if we don't do it we can get fired or our hours can be cut. And, in my experience, they have some of the best prices out there. I've always found the hatred against Gamestop to be unjustified and threads like this remind me of exactly that.

If the trade in values from them weren't so damn low compared to what they sell their used at I wouldn't hate them as much. I walked into there to trade in a new copy of inFamous that was gifted to me, with proof of the purchase so they would take it (gifter bought it from some random store out of state or I would return there), and they offered 6 dollars for it. I can understand that they would still need to sell it used, but when I see 3 people in the store at the time I am attempting to trade in pick up the used ($54.99) I get a little annoyed. If they proved they could sell copies with such a minor drop in price as used here, $6 seems a tad light for what they offered me. Needless to say I still have it laying around.

When I lived in D.C., Gamestop was an excellent store with amiable employees. Now that I am in the Midwest, I avoid Gamestop at all costs. There is an assistant manager that is always on the clock and she has voiced her disdain for gamers in front of customers. I even witnessed her mutter "get some sunlight....basement nerd" as a customer left the store. Without customers, she would not have a job.

So I avoid it because of the personnel and the fact that their used prices are recockulous. However, this is just one store and not a representation of all franchises.

I work at Gamestop. Its largely dependent on what store you go to, as has been said previously. I've personally seen lots of customers that come into our store and complain that some other stores in the city have rude employees and what not. Plus most of the people at my store don't try to bullshit you with unnecessary stuff. (fellow employees may know about GPGs. biggest load of crap ever!)

I'm in England, we don't have Gamestop. I usually use GAME now, occasionally Gamestation or eBay. Gamestation have more friendly staff and a far more relaxed atmosphere but they don't carry as much stock, so...

Never had a problem with them. Dont care what their business practices are, as long as I get my games at a fair price.

I like em, the prices are a little higher than other places.. But the service is way better than anywhere else. And I live for service, so im willing to pay extra for that.. Also because I have a tree outside my house, that grows money!

Better than ordering on the interwebz methinks. But they do get extremely annoying when they keep shoving all these "Console deals" down my throat. "I have a PS3, hence the PS3 games I'm buying. So shut up please."

I have no issues with the store. I don't usually shop there though-I tend to buy my games at Best Buy.

Well I love buying used games for cheap
but I really hate trading in and getting almost nothing
