I don't think this is a case of gaming addiction so much as god awful parents - after all, smacking a young baby born for crying doesn't speak to good parenting for starters.

Every kind of addiction is horrible, gaming addiction is growing to become much worse than most drug addictions, my guess is that it's mostly because it's legal, cheaper and gives you a false sense of accomplishment.

Lock them up where the only game they can play is "hide the hole" with the local prison butch.

After reading this the only thing I can think to say is, it sounds like the treated a VIRTUAL and FAKE child better than their own, they should be steralised s they can't do this again. There should be a forum you need to fill in before having kids.

Wow...that's just horrible...you'd think Asians would know better than to get too addicted like that...that's us Americans jobs to be stupid enough to get really addicted. As said, neglecting a REAL daughter for a virtual one? These 2 better be punished harshly

Wow. That's really fucked up. Wait, the article said that they were living with the mother's parents. Where were they when this shit was going down?

Why do these stories all originate from Korea?

Korean man dies playing games for 48 hours strait...
Korean man stabbed to death over video game...
Korean baby dies of malnutrition because parents were playing a video game...

What the fuck is going on over there? Is Korea a test bed for AI mind control towers or something?

I fail to see how this is any more of a threat than just bad parenting. They could have been doing any number of things for that 12 hours. Just because they're bad parents doesn't mean that games have to be blamed.

Given that there were FOUR people who could have looked after that child, two of which seem to be non-gamers: blaming it on gaming seems a trite put-off compared to the sadism shown by the parents.
I was going to bring up the grandparents as well--were they not home or just didn't care?
Also, 41 year old + 25 year old = creepy.
And I guess places like South Korea must be HORRID for most of the population to want to "escape" via MMORPGs.

is it bad that i'm more worried about the fact that someone will use this example to further demonize gaming in this world?

Don't get me wrong, i feel for the kid. Those bastards deserve to be punished for this. But I'm more offended that they did this and gave gaming a bad name.

Gaming doesn't kill people, neglectful parents do.

I support the notion of renaming the article. Currently, it's misleading.
Seems that, "the family" decided to have a kid for the lulz, then decided it wasn't fun anymore, and killed it off, via neglect-ion. Has nothing to do with games. Seriously, 41 year old man with a 25 year old girl? Both unemployed? Rest of the family nowhere to be found? Child abuse? I really don't see, even why games are being brought up at all.

Also to all who "suggested" controlled parenting/exams and such, not to be rude but seriously, beat those thoughts right out of your head. No entity, with any amount of authority, should ever be allowed to control/limit/govern/censor the reproduction of people.

A baby died in Korea. Well what about the others tens of thousands around the world which died that same day? What about the million others about to die from starvation/neglect/abuse/etc.

So, enough for now. Felt like writing a large essay, but that's just frustration.
