You know there's the whole being able to normally reproduce thing... which is kind of huge
And again, I'm principally for equal rights for anyone, but there are two options as to what "gay" is:
a) It's behavioral and developed over time, in which case it is a socio-economic thing influenced by early years, learning process and environment/parents etc. in which case people can either ?become? gay or straight and it could be prevented by better understanding of what leads to this behavioral change, there are other sexual tendencies like this: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/adf0b17f0d/people-sexually-attracted-to-inanimate-objects and they are still considered ?weird?.
Whatever floats your boat, but maybe try NOT propagating through every media channel available and while dancing through the streets how ?awesome? your sexual preference is and how everyone has to love you for it, and that for everyone.
b) People usually don?t like the first option, in which case It can only be a genetic thing/being born that way, in which case it is just an abnormality like any other (e.g. not the norm).
There is all sorts of abnormalities, people being born with skin conditions, extra limbs, frail bones, having low tolerance for water or sun, bodily/mentally challenged etc.
Yet again, everyone should be treated with respect and should have equal rights, and be able to live a normal life, but despite all that you can?t overcome feeling sorry for some people inside.
I know if it was me and my kids and if I might drift into eugenics and with gene manipulation a reality, I?d like for them to be immune to sicknesses, in perfect health, not be prone to obesity and also in other ways being ?normal? (which also includes both bodily and mentally being able to procreate)
And people can talk about equality and tolerance all day long, but given a hypothetical choice between functional sexuality or not I?d always pick the first.
