For once i respect the rating board's actions. Just as i don't consider artistically painted pictures of nude children art, i also don't consider films with necrophilia art. And just as the government would have destroyed paedophilia pictures/films of children, they destroyed films depicting necrophilia.
Well you have a point, I guess. To Australia, those are the same thing.
But to most other countries, the difference between fantasy and reality is clearer.

I don't think you need a government order to kill that movie. Who wants to see shit like that?

My guess would be horror/zombie movie fans. Fans of musicals might have a tougher time of it.

homeless, schizophrenic, necrophiliac, homosexual <--- How are any of these things artistically significant? Especially when portrayed in a poor light?

i vomited a little reading the description of the movie, that is some fucked up shit, however this was a violation of his civil rights and Australia was wrong. Every person has the right to speak their mind, NO government has the right to screen material and ban it like this. That being said the film festival should have thrown it out right off. Australia's continued censorship of material is horrible and should not be tolerated.

The thing about australia is, despite everyone's insistence we don't have free speech, it's not in our constitution, as our constitution is based on the British constitution which ALSO doesn't have free speech.
The right to bear arms and free speech are two right Americans have but the majority of the rest of the world are only optional.

Mind you the Australian government are extra pricks about it and love reminding everyone.

last year ago a famous photographer took naked photographs of little girls in artistic sepia. There was a big argument as to weather he should be allowed to do so as it constituted art but was still pictures of naked little girls, shown right in a gallery!

After that the government got really strict on censoring because everyone complained

Depite this I don't believe the events went like everything thinks it did.
The film was banned. THEN shown in a cinema anyway. as pointed out, the government are allowed to ban things as are any other non-American government. This is why they wished to destroy the director's copy. He had already screened it, what if he screened it again?

Actually, I too would have burned the movie, not for the movie itself, but because the Director sounds another Uwe Boll guy. Taking a movie which has gay zombies performing necrophilia is NOT ARTISTIC!

Call it shocking and provocative if you will, but what ARTISTIC BLOODY MERIT does it have?
Heh, I love every single insinuation and wrongly-defined term in this paragraph.
It's like some of you haven't even an idea what the issue is in this situation.
Excuse me?

Creating something that is 'shocking' at best doesn't mean it has any merit in anyway or form. I'm sorry if I sounded ignorant in my previous post, but the fact of matter is, everyone is using the term "Artsitic XYZ" to protect something under a certain 'rights' is simply protecting themselves and their work behind a illusion-ary wall. They simply need to man up, and see that sometimes, somethings, certain things, don't even deserved the word "Art" in them.

We're not talking about Salvador Dali's paintings here, or some movie like Machete (which still has more value then this movie).

Don't get me wrong, I'm NOT WITH AUSTRALIA on how they handled the situation, everyone has the right of speech on how they see fit, and how they plan on dealing with repercussion later on, that is fine by me, and if anything, I was against the way the situation was handled.

Let's put it this way: Brokeback Mountain contributed more artistically to the human race, then this movie will do in a hundred years.

The only 'artisic' value this movie could have, is if the Director came out tomorrow, and explained on how this movie is a satire of Zombies, which are the epitome of Nerd-ery, representing the death and decay of the outcast in our current age (Geek/Nerd) being portrayed as someone who unable to feel the touch of a woman, due to the stigma, which till to this day exists, so their second best option would to be 'gay', due to the 'male only bonding' that goes around in he nerd culture.

And I can't stress just HOW WRONG the top statement is, even if it was true.

I bet somewhere in the vast sea of information there is a torrent or rapidshare of the movie...

I think the real reason he destroyed the copies were because when he actually saw the film he was never the same. The movie you described sounds like it would destroy your soul faster than a 2 Girls 1 Cup remake with the girls replaced by Rush Limbaugh and Clint Howard!

Our country is a god damn joke. So are the police. Nice work destroying those videos, fellas! Never mind the young woman being raped two streets away, or he numerous houses being robbed, you've got movies to destroy! If they just replaced the word 'Australia' with 'China' it would of seemed totally in character.

Maybe he destroyed it on recommendation from the people who saw it at his underground screening?
Like M. Night Shyamalan should have with The Last Airbender.

I'm kind of annoyed the my country is wasting its money trying to destroy it anyway. Digital age: their could be copy's of this film everywhere by now.

Destroying media is pointless anyway, if he wants he could just make another similar film and be more secretive about it. Or just spread it all over the internet.

*Blink*

Why did a Canadian filmmaker post it in Australia? Why not Canada?

Personally I believe that Australia really WANTS the people to see these movies, the more the better. That's why they make such a dramatic fuss over it. A small event that nobody cares about would have allowed the film to die in obscurity and we simply can't be having with that.

Hey, blame rests on our shitty government, not our police. They put it off for four months, after all. :p

Thanks Australia, thanks for giving me more and more reasons not to go to that place. Police raids to destroy offensive materials, gee where I do I know that from... Oh! That's right:
I'm a lot more disgusted by their course of action than I am of the movie, and I already am pretty disgusted by that.
I agree, saying it can't be in the film festival is wrong, but understandable, but raiding his home so that he can't show anyone who consents to see it in private is fucking ridiculous, seriously, WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT ABOUT!?
