Well, it's a gutsy move on Gearbox's part. Surely they understand that the game world has lost most, if not all of its anticipation for Duke, and even if the game is made of sparkling diamonds, it's going to receive a stiff reception if only because the game world has moved on and will probably have a bit of a sulk that 3D Realms isn't the creator. But hey, I'll give it a whirl, why the hell not?

You know... I was just going to create a thread documenting the fact that I've just seen a pig fly straight past my house... I was sort of wondering what that was all about. I guess this is why... Cool.

Though to be honest... I'm not really all that bothered about Duke Nukem. I guess it's a little before my generation. Sure I played the PSone games when they where out but I was too young to care... So I've not been as hyped as some of the fans here. I doubt my life will be affected much when they finally release this. Though I guess I can cheer that it finally has been made...

For all the people who apparently don't care about it, you sure are talking about it a lot. :p

As for me, I'm sort of a blank slate on this, I've never played the original, and I also never played the original Team Fortress, but I love TF2, doesn't necessarily mean I'm going to like DNF, but...Gearbox has done some pretty good games, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt as per usual.

I sort of glad actually, the graphics style seems to have changed a little since the original 3D Realms trailer, and, at the time it looked like they were using the same engine as Prey, which while the slick organic style suited, I didn't feel would suit DNF.

Someone must've pointed this out, but isn't it kind of funny that this gets confirmed the same week that the Duke Nukem ZP was voted the best ZP that has been made up untill this point?

Don't care much about the game though, but yay for all of you that do, obviously. Congrats.

Think I'll wait for Borderlands 2...

Sadly, I don't think this game will work as well now that the industry has matured (a bit). Duke Nukem is still a bit juvenile.
It's great if it's a juvenile shooter like Serious Sam, that's exactly what we need now, among all these gritty realistic military shooters.
I want tons of aliens, awesome and powerful-feeling weapons, powerups, random interactive objects, cheesy storyline and voice acting and most of all great level design and fun classic shooter gameplay a la doom.

Well that sounds...

...Wait a minute. Randy Pitchford... Where have I...? Oh God no!

Something tells me that he was a bit persuasive with development team in order to get them to release on time.
If that man is in charge this game will get donne...he's scary

well team fortress 2 took 11 years and it turned out alright
This is actually a good point, just because a game took forever to develop doesn't mean it wont be good (although Gearbox admittedly aren't quite Valve level).

I just watched that footage from PAX and it looks like just another generic modern day shooter, that's unfortunate. It could have gotten away with not being a great game if it had at least followed the classic formula. Now it's competing with other modern fps games so there won't be much reason to play it at all.

I'm going to rent DNF. Never played any other game in the series, but it has provided me with some serious lols. All you have to do is consider one thing: Devloper changed, so all 10 years before it are thrown out the window. This game will only have a few years of work on it. So of course it will not be the monumental game-changing ultra-super-hyper-mega game we should expect. As long as it never uses the word "realistic", and the only "Mature" is the M rating on the box, this might be good.

On the other hand... this is the end of an era. Whenever any of my friends tried to recomend me a game I'd never play, I'd respond with the following: "Yeah, I'll play (game). But I'm busy right now. I'll try to fit it in between my playthoughs of Half Life 2 Episode 3 and Duke Nukem Forever." NOW WHAT AM I GONNA USE AS A SMART ASS COMMENT?!?
