"Duke Nukem Forever" isn't just a game anymore - its a legend. This thing has transcended its intended medium and become a living metaphor for all pathetic overally-long development times and just plain old failure. Its a digital Spruce Goose. We love the Spruce Goose not because of its success, but because of what a massive ridiculous waste of money it was. You can't take that away from us! "Duke Nukem Forever" can only live on if its never completed. When the actual game comes out as a boring shooter game, nobody will care anymore. The legend will be murdered with bare-faced fact. We don't want fact. We don't want tangibility. The "Duke Nukem Forever" that lives so fondly in our hearts is the one that can never be completed - the eternal punchline.
So please, I ask you, DON'T finish the game.
You forgot the PS1 titles: Time to Kill and Land of the Babes. Next to that the N64 still had Zero Hour. A lot of people forget Duke was a proper franchise back in the day.SquirrelPants said:There are four or five of them. Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem 2 were side-scrolling platformers, and Duke Nukem 3D is the best-known one. Then there was a GBA Duke game, and Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project. That's all I know of, but 3D is definitely not the only one.DiscoAtThePanic said:Played previous Duke Nukem Games? As in, the only other Duke Nukem Game? How many decades ago?
Ah, but if they finish it, then it could be a metaphor for things that take a while, but end up awesome (or bad, if that's the outcome)?rileyrulesu said:BlueHighwind said:Am I the only one who is seriously unhappy with this news?

EXACTLY, we NEED it not to be finished! Not just for the joke, but for gaming itself! Duke Nukem 3D was a legend. The sequel's not coming out is what people think of when you hear the word "duke", even if that's your dog's name. Duke Nukem Forever is not a game, it should never be a game. it is a fable. It is an embodiment of hype and desire. Duke Nukem Forever has a legacy. I truly hope this is all a joke, and it will be delayed just to continue this legacy.
I will be Debbie Downer. Gearbox spent less that a year on it. Much of it was leftovers made by 3D Realms, according to Gearbox. Why would we assume what they had made, scrapped and remade who knows how many times over a decade was good, and how much did Gearbox have to contrive to string it all together? What game that was ever started by one group and finished by a completely seperate group was ever considered great?VanityGirl said:In all honesty, do you really think it's going to be a smash hit at this point? The game's been on and off and we know NOTHNG about the game (beside the fact that its finally finished). I don't want to be Debbie Downer, but my hopes for the quality of the game are lacking. Have we seen a REAL screenshot of the game?
*sigh*
It's exciting that it is finally finished, but until I see a real screen shot, this game doesn't exist.
It could serve the same purpose, the warning for future generations, y coming out as the most dissapointing game ever, surpassing Daikatana. It's all about expextations being raised to the point that a great game could not meet them and a bad game seemes even worse as a result. Just like Attack of the Clones.SteakHeart said:Ah, but if they finish it, then it could be a metaphor for things that take a while, but end up awesome (or bad, if that's the outcome)?rileyrulesu said:BlueHighwind said:Am I the only one who is seriously unhappy with this news?

...No wait, we have TF2 for that.
...And? Their last "big surprise" that everyone said was going to be Ep3 was that Portal 2 would be on PS3 or something like that...Nintendolover222 said:http://www.halflife2.net/2010/09/01/valve-have-3-big-surprises/Assassin Xaero said:If this actually does comes out, then is Half-Life 2 Episode 3 going to be the next Duke Nukem Forever?
